3 Quick Start 1 1 Quick Start goanalyze is a Trados Studio add-on (for 2009 through 2014) which allows you to perform an analysis of individual, several and even zipped files without having to open them in Trados Studio. In addition, you can add costing information to the match types per language and thus automatically calculate the cost for the translation. goanalyze even offers you a configurable Excel-template, so you can automatically create a full quote from any file(s). Before running the first analysis, you create at least one client profile in the user interface of goanalyze. These profiles consist of the language combination, the translation memories to be used plus optional analysis settings and costs. Please also verify the penalty settings per language to make sure they are consistent with those in Studio, otherwise analysis results will differ between goanalyze and Studio! Then you can start an analysis by doing one of the following: Drag and drop one or several files or a zip file onto the desktop icon and then select the analysis profile you want to use. Right-mouse click the file(s) and start the analysis from the context menu. The analysis results are stored to a file according to the settings you have provided in the beginning. In addition, goanalyze creates several log files, among them a list of all files analyzed plus the filetype used, a costing table plus a quote. All temporary files will be deleted automatically after the analysis. Studio does not have to actually run on the machine, but it needs to be installed. Note: The basic version only allows you to define one translation memory. Apart from that, the basic version is fully functional. goanalyze unfortunately does not work with the Freelance version of Trados Studio, because the Freelance version does not contain the required API. goanalyze - User s Guide 3

Upgrades Please follow these steps to upgrade an existing version of goanalyze: a) Uninstall the current version. Your settings and your license file will be maintained for the next version. If upgrading from a version 1.x to a version 2.x, please do delete the license file and order a new license file from Kaleidoscope in advance. b) Restart your PC if it asks for a restart. Depending on the operating system, this can be required to uninstall the Windows Explorer shell (the context menu for the right mouse click) and reinstall the new version. c) Install the new version. goanalyze requires a running and licensed SDL Trados Studio. It supports versions 2009 through 2014 Professional. Unfortunately, the Freelance version is not supported due to the missing API in Trados Studio Freelance. 2.2 Licensing goanalyze can be used in a free Basic version or as a Professional version, either as a single PC license or as a networked license with a central license stored on a network share for several PCs. Trial Version After installation, goanalyze will first run as a demo verion for 30 days. After that you can either continue using the free Basic Version, or you purchase the Professional Version, ideally before the trial expires. Free Basic Version In the free basic version, you can only use one Translation Memory. Apart from that, goanalyze is fully functional. 4 goanalyze - User s Guide

5 Installation and Configuration TM Connections 2 Professional Version In the Professional Version you can create as many client profiles with as many TMs and settings as you need. When you purchase the Professional Version in the Kaleidoscope Shop, you will receive a serial number. Using this serial number you can activate your license. To do so, click on the Licensing tab, then on Register, and then choose the Online registration. Enter the serial number, a company name, your country and address. goanalyze will now automatically activate its license on line. Professional Version with Server-Based Licensing For a larger scale implementation using a license server, proceed as follows: You will need a network license with an according number of Client activations from Kaleidoscope. a) Install goanalyze on one of the PCs or on the server itself. b) Copy the "empty" license file from the directory C:\ProgramData \Kaleidoscope_GesmbH\goAnalyze to a central network share where all future clients have read and write access. c) Edit the file goanalyze.exe.config and enter the path to this license file in the key licensepath. d) Now register goanalyze as above. e) After that, apply an activation code which adds the respective number of clients. You now have activated the license file in the network. f) Roll out the edited config-file to all clients. All clients will now access the central license file. Every time a new client "checks in" with this license file, the client counter will be incremented by one step. So make sure you have purchased sufficient client activations. 2.3 TM Connections When you first start goanalyze you are prompted to do a basic configuration. This is because without a basic configuration with TMs and language settings, no analysis can be performed. First you define what translation memories to use: goanalyze - User s Guide 5

7 Installation and Configuration Language Settings 2 Edit TM Connections screen - server based TMs This is how you open a TM: a) If you want to use a local TM, click on the Open icon, browse to and select the TM, and provide a password if necessary. - Or - For a server-based TM provide the server address, the name of the TM and the user name and password, if you are not using Windows authentication. goanalyze will display all TMs for that connection in a tree structure. By clicking on the check boxes, you can select one or several TMs. By clicking on "Remember settings" you can remember the TM connection and also the last position in the TM tree. This is a great help when adding many TMs to goanalyze. b) Click on Connect. The TM connection will be validated and the languages are read from the TM. c) In the list of language combinations or each TM, select those that you want to use. d) Click on Apply. The TM is added to the list. As an option, you can provide a penalty which will be deducted from all matches from this TM, just like in the Trados analysis. 2.4 Language Settings Here you define analysis options per language pair: goanalyze - User s Guide 7

8 2 Installation and Configuration Language Settings Language Settings screen This is how you define analysis options: a) Select the language pair you want to define. In the lower part of the screen, you can then see the settings for this language pair, including the word price for the match rates, if you want to generate cost analyses. The settings are identical to the ones in SDL Trados Studio. Please refer to the Trados online help for the consequences of these settings. b) Simply type the values into the fields as you want them to be set: c) Click on Save. The settings for this language pair are saved. Copying and pasting settings You can easily copy and paste the settings of one language to another language: Just select "copy settings" next to the "source" of the settings. Then select "paste" settings next to that language, where you want to reuse the settings. Of course they can be changed after copying. Different Source Files per Target Language You can configure goanalyze to use different source files for different target languages in a project. This is sometimes useful, for example in connection with CMS exports where you get a different file to translate for each target language. You can map the files to the language pair either manually before starting an analysis, or by using file name patterns or by reading a value directly from an xml file via an XPath statement. 8 goanalyze - User s Guide

9 Installation and Configuration Client Settings 2 If you want to configure the automatic language - file mapping, proceed as follows: a) In the drop-down "Use different source files per language" select, which strategy you want to use to map files to languages: By file name or By XPath selector. The languages overview table now contains an additional column showing you which file name pattern or XPath is mapped to the respective language pair. Underneath the table you will also find a field where you can enter either the file name pattern or the XPath statement. b) Select the language pair you want to define. c) Using file name patterns: Enter the corresponding file name pattern for the language selected in the field underneath the table. For example: If all files for English end in "_EN" before the file extension, then enter "*_EN.*" as a file name pattern. d) Using an XPath statement: First, enter the XPath-selector next to the drop-down box. This selector tells goanalyze where in the xml file to look for a value that corresponds to a target language. Then, enter the corresponding value for each language in the field underneath the table. For example: If your XML-file contains an element called <TranslationFile Target= EN >, then enter the following information: - Selector: /TranslationFile/@TargetLanguage - Result of the selection: EN 2.5 Client Settings Here you can set up which version of Studio you want to use during analysis. This setting is client-specific. It is important particularly for XML file types which might be different in your various Studio versions. goanalyze - User s Guide 9

10 2 Installation and Configuration General Settings Client Settings dialog 2.6 General Settings Here you can set the general goanalyze settings: General Settings Screen This is how you define general settings: a) Enter a file path for the temporarily stored SDL files, unless you want to use the default windows temp directory. You can also browse to the directory. This is the directly where goanalyze will create all temporary files for the analysis. 10 goanalyze - User s Guide

11 Installation and Configuration General Settings 2 b) Chose the file format in which you want the analysis results to be stored. You can select HTML, MHT, Excel, Trados 2009 XML or Trados 2007 CSV (both tab or semicolon separated). If you select 2007 analysis formats, then please consider what you want to do with those match types that did not yet exist in Trados c) Define whether you want to always store the analysis result file in the same folder as the source files, or if you want goanalyze to prompt you for a folder each time an analysis is run. d) Define a template for the analysis file s name. You can either simply enter a fixed file name, or assemble the file name from the following parameters. A combination of fixed string elements plus parameters is possible, of course. - %D%: the current date You can further define the format of the date by entering for instance %D:yyyyMMdd%. - %SL%: The analysis source language - %TL%: The analysis target language For example: The setting "Analysis_%SL%_%TL%_%D%" will produce the file name "Analysis_DE-AT_EN-US_ ". You can click on each of the macros or on the example to copy them to the template Analysis Files a) Here you can define how you want to handle Perfect Matches and Context Matches in the 2007 log files, where these did not yet exist: Perfect Matches: You can add these to the XTranslated matches, to the 100% Matches or remove them from the word count entirely. InContextExact Matches (=Context matches): You can add them to the 100% matches and the total word count, or only add them to the total word count without adding them to the 100% matches, or remove them from both values. If you select the second options, then you will get a mismatch between total word count and the sum of the individual word counts of each match category, but this will help you determine how many Context matches there were. b) Define whether or not cross-file repetitions should be considered in the analysis. c) Also define, whether you want to include internal Fuzzy matches in the fuzzy match count or not. goanalyze - User s Guide 11

12 2 Installation and Configuration General Settings General Analysis Options a) Here you can define, whether goanalyze should also create an HTML analysis in addition to any other format you might have selected above. b) You can define if you also want to store a list of all files analyzed including the file type used in the analysis. This is handy, because you can make sure the right filetype was used, particularly for XML files. c) Define whether or not you want to store the Studio project after the analysis. If you want to store it, then you can also define a template for the automatically created project name. You can use the following variables in that name: FN = file name SL = source language D = date in the short format D:yyy = date in the long format Of course you can also include normal characters in the name template. d) If you do store the project, you can also choose whether or not to create a project TM during the analysis, and whether or not you want to copy this TM out of the "normal" subfolder into the main folder of the analysis. e) You can choose to create a cost calculation file as well (CSV). This file includes not only the individual word counts per language and file, but multiplies the word count with the word rate you indicated for each language. f) In projects with more than one target language, you can also create a cost summary file. This file (costs.csv) contains all word counts and costs for all languages in the project. g) You can choose to also export the cost into a quote-like excel sheet. Kaleidoscope ships a sample template for this report which you can customize to your needs. In the last setting, you can define where this template can be found. This concludes the general settings of goanalyze. 12 goanalyze - User s Guide

13 Use 3 3 Use You can start goanalyze in one of the following ways: You can drag and drop one or several files or even a zip file onto the desktop icon. You can call the analysis from the context menu. You can call a particular analysis profile from the context menu. You can click on "Analyze" inside the application itself. The first two choices will call the Configure Analysis dialogue. In the third case, the dialog is skipped because the selection has already taken place. If you want to use different source files for each target language, you can simply choose this in the drop-down next to each language combination. goanalyze can also be configured to automatically map files and languages. Click on Analyze. The analysis is carried out. Progress screen The analysis is stored in the file as defined in the general settings. If you like, the list of analyzed files can also be stored and interactively displayed at the end of the analysis: goanalyze - User s Guide 13

14 3 Use List of analyzed files. You can choose to generate a complete cost analysis and even a quote-like excel sheet based on a customizable excel file. Here s an example of what this can look like: Sample quote The temporary files are deleted automatically. Different Source Files per Target Language If you have configured goanalyze to use different source languages for each target language, then the Analyze files dialog will contain an additional column with a dropdown to choose the target language per file. This dropdown is automatically set to the language depending on your configuration. You can, however, still change that language before proceeding with the analysis. The remaining analysis process is identical to any normal analysis, just that each log file will contain only the data from the corresponding files. 14 goanalyze - User s Guide
