4 INSTALLATION GUIDE activepdf DOCCONVERTER INTRODUCTION activepdf DocConverter: This document will walk you through the process of licensing and installing activepdf DocConverter. BEFORE YOU BEGIN Prior to starting the DocConverter installation, please be sure to: 1. Have your license information available. This information is sent to you via by activepdf Customer Service. 2. Familiarize yourself with the System Requirements for your activepdf DocConverter version. Page 3

5 INSTRUCTIONS activepdf DocConverter includes two distinct processors to provide conversion support for a wide range of file formats. Prior to beginning installation, you should determine whether you wish to use the DocConverter Office Processor, the Default Processor, or both. Will you be using DocConverter's Office Processor? If so, you will need to ensure that Microsoft Office is installed on this system prior to installing DocConverter. We also strongly recommend running the Office Verifier as part of your installation as this will ensure Office is working properly and is accessible to DocConverter. Will you be using DocConverter's Default Processor? If so, you will need to allow DocConverter to install LibreOffice. System Requirements Operating System The following software is required for full use of DocConverter Enterprise. Microsoft Windows Server 2003, x86 or x64, OR Microsoft Windows Server 2008, x86 or x64 Hardware The following are minimum hardware requirements for DocConverter Enterprise. 512 MB of RAM 90 MB of Disk Space (for application) Additional Software The following are additional software requirements for DocConverter Enterprise. Microsoft Word,Excel,PowerPoint recommended (2003 minimum, 2007 or 2010) LibreOffice recommended (installed by DocConverter) Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5, or higher required (installed by DocConverter) User Accounts Please note that the DocConverter application server must have either a Local Administrator account or a domain account with Local Administrator rights. Documentation During installation, you ll be prompted to install DocConverter s online help documentation files. 6 INSTALLING DOCCONVERTER INSTALLATION GUIDE The DocConverter Enterprise 2010 installation process copies the DocConverter Enterprise 2010 files to the appropriate location on your system, and then proceeds to verify the external processors used in the conversion of documents. (These external processors are Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint and/or LibreOffice). The DocConverter Enterprise 2010 installer verifies that these applications are installed. To install the product: 1. Download the latest activepdf DocConverter Enterprise 2010 installer from 2. When prompted to save the file, navigate to your desktop and click OK. 3. Double-click APDocConverter_Ent_2010.exe on the desktop. 4. Type your Serial Number or License Key when prompted. 5. For some licenses, you are required to type the Verification Data tied to your license. This may be your address or company name, depending on your license type. 6. When the message appears stating, "Licensing data for activepdf DocConverter installed," click Done. 7. Click Next to begin installation. 8. Continue following the on-screen prompts until the Document Conversion Application Verifier dialog box appears. Page 5

7 9. If Microsoft Office is installed on this system, click Next The Service User Verification dialog box appears. If the user information is not already set up, do the following: a. Complete the user account details: Domain Type the domain for the user account. Keep the default setting of "." for a local account. Username Type the user name. Password Type the password for the user account. Confirm Password Type the password again. b. Click OK. 10. Click Next. 11. Click Verify Applications. The Office Application Verification screen appears. The application checks the registration status of external processors (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint) required by DocConverter Enterprise 2010.The verification process starts with Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word opens and a new document appears with the following message: Thank you for verifying Microsoft Word for use with activepdf DocConverter. If you have not yet activated your copy of Word, we highly recommend that you do so now. Please exit Word when you are ready so Office Verification can continue. 12. Close the application. The verification process repeats for Microsoft Excel, and again for Microsoft PowerPoint. 13. Close each application as it is opened. 14. Click Finish. 15. When the Installation Successful dialog box appears, click Finish. DocConverter verifies that all required services are started. NOTE: If you have not yet activated your applications, see Activating Your Microsoft Office Applications. Page 6

8 Activating Your Microsoft Office Applications INSTALLATION GUIDE If you plan to use DocConverter s Office Processor, you must activate Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and/or Microsoft PowerPoint. Use the following procedure to activate the applications after installing DocConverter Enterprise NOTE: THERE IS NO NEED TO PERFORM THIS PROCESS IF YOU ARE USING ONLY THE DOCCONVERTER DEFAULT PROCESSOR (LIBREOFFICE). To activate applications: 1. Click the Microsoft Office button at the upper left corner of the application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 2. Click Word Options, Excel Options, or PowerPoint Options. 3. Click Resources, and then click Activate. NOTE: IF THE ABOVE OPTIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, THE APPLICATION HAS ALREADY BEEN ACTIVATED. Page 7
