About this Setup and configure Quadri DCM document This document describes how to upgrade a Quadri DCM installation from the last distributed version 1.1 (including feature packs and updates) to version 1.2.FP1 in a corporate network. This version of Quadri DCM offers support to use Windows Authentication (with Single Sign On) and Active Directory (using LDAP) as the source for user accounts. A change of the Quadri DCM installation to use this must be done after the installation is upgraded to version 1.2.FP1. This version of the document is updated 22 th of October 2014 and screen shots are taken from an installation of Quadri DCM version 1.2.FP1 The most up to date version of this document can be downloaded from 2. Prerequisites for a successful upgrade 2.1 Preparing to upgrade in collaboration with all stakeholders There is a step-by-step migration guide at this location: step_migration_guide_np19.20-q1.1_to_np19.20fp3_-_q1.2.pdf Ensure that all steps in the chapter named Preparing to upgrade are performed before you upgrade. 2.2 Backing up before you upgrade In general, it is always advisable to have a fresh back up of the entire system before starting an upgrade because each upgrade can go wrong and lead to an inconsistent database. 2.3 Know the schedule of the hot database back-up The files that is used to control the schedule and content of the hot database back-up will be overwritten so to be able to use the current back-up configuration after the upgrade you should write down the current time schedule. As default, the internal hot data back-up runs once a day at 01:00 and back-up files are recycled every week. You may skip this step if you prefer to use the default schedule. To find the current time schedule Open Windows Task Scheduler. Find the task Fullbackup of Quadri, open the associated properties dialog. Locate the tab named Triggers Write down the schedule info. 4 This new version cannot use hot database back-up script file from previous version so you should not copy and then put back Fullbackup.cmd and CreatedScheduledTasksForBackup.cmd as recommended for previous upgrades. 2.4 Know the location of the installed Quadri DCM software You will need to know which drive the QuadriDCM software you are upgrading is installed. 2.5 Know the location of database backup-files You will need to know which drive database backup-files are configured to use in the installation you are upgrading. 2.6 Know passwords If the Quadri DCM installation you are upgrading uses passwords different from the default passwords, you will need to know these three passwords: a) System password b) Database password c) Quadr DCM Model Manager admin password When you later upgrade from the version you now upgrade to the Quadri DCM configuration tool will be able to find and use the previously used passwords automatically. 2.7 Download and unzip installation package Download the installation package using the link received from Vianova Systems or in general, all installation packages can be downloaded from this site: Vianova Systems AS Quadri DCM Page 4

5 The installation package is distributed as a zip file and the downloaded ZIP-file should be unzipped to a new folder, which does not contain any other files. All files must be kept together in the same structure, as they are unzipped. The installation package contains these files: 1. Readme.txt 2. Quadri DCM setup_[version number].exe 3. Database.exe 2.8 Add valid passwords to QMS_configure.exe.config Skip this step if the Quadri DCM installation use default passwords for System and Database. This version of the configuration tool is not capable to read previously specified passwords from the system. To complete the Quadri DCM upgrade these passwords must be written in the application config-file for the configuration tool. 1. Open QMS_configure.exe.config (normally located at C:\Program Files\Vianova\Quadri DCM\bin) in a text editor, 2. Replace the values of the keys SYSPWD and SystemPwd with the password for System used in the Quadri DCM installation. 3. Replace the values of key QMSYSPwd with the password for Database used in the Quadri DCM installation. 4. Save the file. 5. Close the text editor 2.9 Read the readme file Readme.txt contains important information (typically last minute info) related to the specific installation of one version. 6 3. Upgrade Quadri DCM software to a new version A Quadri DCM upgrade does always imply changes to the server software, and may imply changes to the configuration of the server and/or changes to the data in the embedded database. This upgrade imply changes in both server software, configuration of the server and changes to the data in the embedded database. Be aware that currently it is not possible to have two versions of Quadri DCM running on one computer. 3.1 Install upgraded server software As soon as the wanted installation package is downloaded and unzipped, you may right-click Quadri DCM setup_[version number].exe in the folder where the installation package was unzipped. Select Run as Administrator and then follow the install wizard. When you start the installation on a computer where Quadri DCM is already installed, the currently installed software version will be upgraded to the new software version. This installation will also install all scripts used to perform an upgrade of the Quadri DCM configuration. 3.2 Upgrade Quadri DCM configuration to a new version On a computer where Quadri DCM is installed there is a shortcut to a Quadri DCM configuration tool on the Start Menu. 7 If the shortcut is not found when clicking the Start-button, please go to All Programs/Vianova/Quadri DCM/Configuration Tool Create a new Quadri DCM From version 1.2 and onward Quadri DCM only us Microsoft IIS as HTTP-server. This is why this upgrade include a step to create a new QuadriDCM. A later step will remove the previously installed Quadri DCM that use Apache HTTP server. Start the Configuration Tool and click the New -button on the start-dialogue to configure a new Quadri DCM. A window displaying the prerequisites will be activated. In this situation, the system complains that there already exists a database. This is related to the rather unusual situation that an upgrade includes a create new step. Please ignore this prerequisite and continue. 1. Select SW drive and Backup drive, and mark only the checkbox for Backup and Schedule. Ignore the value for Data drive, as that one is not used in this upgrade step. Vianova Systems AS Quadri DCM Page 7

8 The initial values shown for SW, Data and Backup drive in the UI does not reflect the actual locations used in the installation you are upgrading. 2. Click Database button. A new and improved version of the scripts that handles the hot database backup is now created. 3. Expand the dialog with expand-button to the right (marked ) 4. 9 o o o o Specify the application name if you don t want to use the default name quadri Specify server alias if you don t want to use the default alias QuadriDCM If you don t want to make logs from the server side available for clients, remove check for Allow Server Logs Click OK button to apply the changes. Unless you have several QuadriDCM installation that due to technical issues needs to be separated by unique application names we recommends that you use the default application name quadri. Server alias is used as a friendly name in the client for the connection data that points to this specific QuadriDCM installation. This replace the IP-address, port, application name etc. in the user interface. Allow server logs creates a Virtual Directory that makes it possible to download trace logs from the server side from the clients in the context of crash reporting. 7. Specify a password for the system user account admin Do not change the value for User Source. You cannot change this value during the upgrade process. 8. 10 Documentation of the configuration 1. Click L -button to open Log for the installation and configuration. 2. Please save the log-file to your local disk ( File / Save As in Notepad). Close the Configuration tool by clicking the X in the upper right corner before you continue with the next step Updating Quadri DCM to a new version Start the Configuration Tool again and click Update QuadriDCM button Upgrade Database Configuration 1. Click the Update button and wait for the update to finish Schema version 5 is the version used by the newest 1.1 version Schema version 6 is the version used by Quadri DCM 1.2 Schema version 7 is the version used by Quadri DCM 1.2.a Schema version 8 is the version used by Quadri DCM 1.2.FP1 3. Repeat the previous step until you get a message box as shown below: This indicates that all available database scripts are executed and that the schema version is updated according the upgraded Quadri DCM version Upgrade Quadri DCM Web applications 1. 12 2. Click Update button Now this Quadri DCM installation only us Microsoft IIS as HTTP-server. The previously used Apache HTTP server is now replaced by an IIS application. The QMM application that was previously accessed through a separate port number can now be access through the same port number as the one that was used by the now removed Apache module. Close the Configuration tool by clicking the X in the upper right corner before you continue with the next step. Vianova Systems AS Quadri DCM Page 12

13 4. Completing the upgrade process 4.1 Modify existing links used to access QMM Modify existing links previously used to access QMM trough port 8080 (or other port number). As long as the new default port 80 is used, the port number is not necessary to specify. Change to (or if you prefer to include the port number) 4.2 Reconfigure time schedule for hot data back-up As mentioned, this upgrade overwrite the previously defined time schedule of hot data backup. If you prefer to use the default time schedule, (hot data back-up once a day at 01:00 + recycling once a week) then you don t have to do anything more. If you has customized the time scheduler then you must reconfigure the time schedule according the values you made a note of in 2.3 Know the schedule of the hot database back-up. Hot to change the time schedule is described in cm_setup_and_configuration.pdf 4.3 Complete the upgrade in collaboration with all stakeholders As mentioned earlier, there is a step-by-step migration guide at this location: step_migration_guide_np19.20-q1.1_to_np19.20fp3_-_q1.2.pdf Ensure that all steps in the chapter named Upgrade shared Quadri DCM models are performed before you announce that the Quadri DCM installation is upgraded. 4.4 Verify the upgraded Quadri DCM installation Consider to carry out Step by step guide to verify the QuadriDCM installation found in cm_setup_and_configuration.pdf This way it can be verified that the Quadri DCM upgrade is successful and any problems might be sorted out before end users start to use the installation in their daily work. Some of the verification steps could also be carried out by one pilot user from one of the active projects hosted by the upgraded Quadri DCM. 4.5 Revert any previously special network configuration Previously QuadriDCM did use two different port numbers on the server side. From version 1.2 and forward, the system only use one port (default port 80). Vianova Systems AS Quadri DCM Page 13
