3 2 Changing the administrator PIN default code 2 Changing the administrator PIN default code The PIN code protects access to the content of the smart card. All smart cards distributed by Trace One are provided with an ADMINISTRATOR PIN code and a USER PIN code. Any card is set with an ADMINISTRATOR PIN default code, which you may know. If not, please contact Trace One Hotline. The Trace One Correspondent must modify the ADMINISTRATOR PIN code of all smart cards before distributing to the users. The ADMINISTRATOR PIN code is required to unblock the USER PIN code. The new PIN code should be set and kept secretly by the Correspondent. A valid ADMINISTRATOR PIN code has exactly 4 alphanumeric characters excluding character. It is recommended to use the same ADMINISTRATOR PIN code for all smart cards. This code should not be given to users. It is also recommended to keep a list of all created users, with their corresponding card numbers. How to change the administrator PIN code? 1. Run the GemSAFE Card Details Tools program, accessible via the menu: - Start/Programs/Gemplus for Windows 2000 workstations. - Start/All programs/gemplus for Windows XP workstations. 2. Enter the ADMINISTRATOR PIN default code 3. In the PIN menu, select "Change PIN" 4. The following dialog box appears. Select option "Admin PIN". Enter the ADMINISTRATOR PIN default code in the Old Admin PIN box. Enter your new PIN code in the New Admin PIN box. To confirm, re-enter your new PIN code in the Confirm Admin PIN box. Press "Change". 5. If values entered in the New Admin PIN and Confirm Admin PIN boxes are different, an error message appears "The input for New PIN and PIN confirmation is not equal". 4 3 Unblocking the User PIN code 3 Unblocking the User PIN code When a USER PIN code is blocked, the Trace One Correspondent may unblock it. Unblocking the USER PIN code requires entering the smart card ADMINISTRATOR PIN code and a new USER PIN code. It is better to execute this operation on the workstation of the Trace One Correspondent in the presence of the user. If more convenient, the operation can however be executed by the Trace One Correspondent on the user workstation. How to unblock the user PIN code? 1. If the GemSAFE Card Details Tools program is not running: Run the program, accessible via the menu: - Start/Programs/Gemplus for Windows 2000 workstations. - Start/All programs/gemplus for Windows XP workstations. 2. The following screen appears: Note: if the "GemSafe Card Details Tools" program is already running when you insert the card, you can open this screen by selecting "Unlock PIN" in the "PIN" menu. In the Admin PIN box, secretly enter the ADMINISTRATOR PIN of the card. Ask the user to secretly enter his/her new PIN code in the New User PIN box. A valid USER PIN code has exactly 4 alphanumeric characters excluding character. To confirm, ask the user to re-enter his/her USER PIN code in the Confirm User PIN box and click on "Unblock". 3 Unblocking the User PIN code 3. If values entered in the New User PIN and Confirm User PIN boxes are different, you obtain an error message "The input for New Pin and PIN confirmation is not equal".

In this case, click "OK" and return to Step When the ADMINISTRATOR PIN code entered is incorrect, you obtain an error message "User PIN unblocking failed. Number of incorrect presentations after Admin PIN will be blocked: 2". In this case, click "OK" and return to Step 2. After 3 incorrect entries, the ADMINSITRATOT PIN code of the card is also blocked, and you can no longer use the card (an ADMINISTRATOR PIN code cannot be unblocked). In this case, call TraceOne Hotline for assistance. 5. The following dialog box appears when the new USER PIN code has been correctly recorded. Press "OK". 6 4 Erasing smart card content 4 Erasing smart card content The chip of each card supplied contains a memory zone for data storage. This storage zone may not have sufficient space available for additional data. In this case, it is necessary to erase the content of the card storage zone to free the necessary space to be able to proceed with a certificate request. The following procedure allows you to carry out this operation; please follow it with extreme care. Erasure of smart card content does not delete the recorded USER PIN and ADMINISTRATOR PIN codes. Card erasure should be executed by the Trace One Correspondent; the presence of the user (card owner) is required to enter his/her USER PIN code. After erasing the content of a smart card, the user must renew the certificate request operation, referring to the received on this topic. How to erase smart card content? Modification of the registry is necessary to activate the card erasure function in the GemSAFE Card Details Tools program. This option should be activated only on an administrator workstation. 1. Connect to the following link: and click on "Activate the option that erases cards ". 2. Download the file, named "AdminMode.reg". Double-click on it. 3. A message appears asking you to confirm that you want to add the information contained in the file to the registry. Click "Yes". 4. Run the GemSAFE Card Details Tools program, accessible via the menu: - Start/Programs/Gemplus for Windows 2000 workstations. - Start/All programs/gemplus for Windows XP workstations.
