Quick Reference Guide How to Copy a Course from Older TITANium Buttons into the Current TITANium Button Backup and restore is the only method of copying courses from older TITANium buttons into the current TITANium button. It is important to follow all steps carefully in this guide or you could damage your new course and be required to wait for assistance from IT. Step 1: Log in to the portal and click the TITANium tab. Click on the old TITANium button that contains the old course you wish to copy. Each button is generally labeled with the semester(s) it contains. The TITANium Courses button corresponds to the current semester s courses. Step 2: Locate the course you wish to copy in the Course overview section on your My home screen. Click on the course name. In this example we are copying data from a course called Source Course on the Intersession 2013 button. Before importing content from one course into another, make sure to un-hide any items that you wish to be unhidden after the copy process. If you have hidden entire topics make sure to unhide the topic or all the items in the topic will be hidden in the destination course. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 1 of 13
Step 3: To start the backup process, select Backup in the Settings section. Step 4: Place a check mark next to the item(s) you wish to backup/copy. Then click the Next button. In this example, we want to make a clean copy of the course to use in an upcoming semester, so we will uncheck the first box Include Enrolled Users. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 2 of 13
Step 5: Specify which items to copy by placing a check mark next to item(s) to be backed up/copied. Each course automatically generates its own News Forum, so un-check the News Forum box near the top. You may have renamed the News Forum in your course to Announcements, Latest News, or similar. All of the other items should be checked. Scroll to the bottom and click Next. Step 6: Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Perform backup. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 3 of 13
Step 7: The backup process can take several seconds depending on the size of the course. Once the backup is complete, click Continue. Step 8: Locate your backup file on the Restore screen. Verify the following: Make sure the name matches the course you just backed up. Make sure the date is the most recent. Check the Size of the course. If the course is less than 500 MB click the Download button and save the file to your computer. If the course is over 500 MB in size, please for assistance. Courses over 500 MB cannot be uploaded without special assistance from IT support. Step 9: Close the browser tab or window of the TITANium button you are working in. This is an important step to make sure you restore the course into the new TITANium button. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 4 of 13
Step 10: In the TITANium tab of the campus portal, click the button that corresponds to the current semester (the semester you want to load the data into). This button is typically labeled Click here to access TITANium Courses, however it could be labeled by semester range as well. Since you probably took several minutes to create and download your backup file, you will likely be prompted to log back into the campus portal. Step 11: Click on the course you want to copy data into. In this example we want to copy data into a course name Destination Course. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 5 of 13
Step 11a: Make sure you are in the correct course! In this example we are copying the course into a new Summer 2013 course. Note that the icons in the Settings block are different from older versions of TITANium. The news forum icon is also different. Most importantly, the course is empty! If we saw data in the course we would probably be copying data into the wrong course. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 6 of 13
Step 12: In the destination course, select Restore in the Settings section. Step 13: Click on Choose a file. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 7 of 13
Step 14: Select Upload a file. Step 15: Click on Browse. Locate the course backup file that you created and saved earlier. The file will contain the course name and a date. In this example it contains (April 11th, 2013). Select the file and then click the Open button. Your operating system or web browser may have a different interface. The screen shot is Windows 7 using the Firefox web browser. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 8 of 13
Step 16: After you select the backup file, click the Upload this file button. Step 17: Make sure you have uploaded the correct course to be restored. In this example the course is named Source Course. The file was created (April 11th, 2013). Click the Restore button. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 9 of 13
Step 18: On the Backup details page confirm again that you are restoring the correct course. Note the date and Course Name. Click the Continue button at the bottom of the page. Step 19: Confirm that you are restoring into the correct course (in this example Destination Course). Leave the default setting merge the backup course into this course checked. Click the Continue button. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 10 of 13
Step 20: Click the Next button. Step 21: By default the Course name and Course short name will be the name of the source course. Change both fields to the exact name of the destination course. Also change Overwrite course configuration to Yes. It is critical that you enter the destination course name into the Course name and Course short name boxes correctly. If you restore a course with a mistyped name, the course will no longer receive automatic enrollments from Titan Online and you will need to contact lmsadmin@fullerton.edu for technical support. An alternative to carefully typing the name is to copy and paste the link from the breadcrumbs above the restore screen. To do this, carefully select the text of the course name without clicking the link. After pasting it into the boxes below, make sure no extra characters or spaces have been copied (for example a space at the start or a / or space at the end). Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 11 of 13
Step 22: On this page you may also uncheck any items you do not wish to copy into the course. After confirming that the correct settings have been entered, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Next button. Step 23: Verify that you have entered the correct course name. Also verify that Overwrite Course Configuration is set to Yes. Then scroll to the bottom and click Perform restore. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 12 of 13
Step 24: The restore process can take several seconds depending on the size of the backup. Once the restore has completed, click the Continue button. Step 25: Since you are copying a course from an old semester to a new semester, you may want to make the course unavailable until you are ready for the new semester. You may also want to change the course start date. Select Edit settings in the Settings section to access these options. Once you are ready for students to begin accessing the course, don t forget to make the course available to students. Change the Availability to This course is available to students and click the Save changes button. Last Revised: 04/22/13 Page 13 of 13
