LECS Behavior Inserting a module with a local LECS or defining a module to have a local LECS starts the LECS election process, and the LECS on this module can become the new active LECS. As soon as a LECS is elected as active, all of the LESs in the network will register their addresses with the new active LECS. If the new active LECS is not defined with the correct ELAN database with all ELANs in the network, these LESs will not be activated and all users for these ELANs will be thrown off the network. Modules from the factory are configured with a remote LECS and will not cause problems. If you want to configure a local LECS on a module and protect the network, perform the following steps when defining a new LECS: 1. First create a LECS with priority '0' to ensure that the LECS will not be elected. The following command will create a local LECS with priority '0' and advertising the well known address: lane lecs priority 0 2. Define all of the ELANs that the LECS will host. Create an ELAN for every LES in your network. The following command creates the ELAN elan_marketing in the ELAN database. lane elan create elan_marketing auto ethernet 3. Change the LECS to an appropriate priority. The default priority is 128. The higher the priority, the higher the chance that the LECS will be elected as active. The following command changes the priority to 128. lane lecs priority 128 For further information on how to define LANE Servers, see Chapter 14 - Managing the LECS, Chapter 15 - Managing the LES/BUS and Chapter 16 - Managing an ELAN in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. Warning: Before creating a local LECS or inserting a module with a local LECS, ensure that the ELAN database contains all of the information needed to support the active LESs on the network. Module Behavior When limiting the vport vcirange, change only the upper limit. Do not change the lower limit. The vcirange default is To limit the number of SVCs to 800, change the vport vcirange to For further information on managing vports see Chapter 6 Managing Virtual Ports in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. M770 ATM switches can operate in a multi-level PNNI hierarchy by supporting only inside links. The M770 switch cannot be a border node nor a Peer Group Leader. 2 Cajun M770 ATM Switch Release Notes
Known Problems AAL5 Traffic Module LEDs If you create a PVC that will not transmit AAL5 traffic, do not define the PVC traffic descriptor as UBR. If for any reason the PVC needs to be UBR, then disable EPD. The SRV LED is not supported in this version. Software Download After an Xmodem download, wait until the module completes an automatic reset (this may take 2 minutes). If the module does not recover after the reset, reset the module manually. For more information on xmodem downloads, see Appendix B, Using BOOT Loader, in the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide. If the M770 ATM module is reset during a download of the Main S/W version, the file name will appear in the flash file system, but it is not a complete file. If you try to choose this file as the main image using the command flash default <filename>, you receive the following error message: The file <filename> fails its checksum check operation aborted. No images found with name <filename>. PNNI If this happens, delete the file using the flash delete <filename> command and download the file again. The route pnni local switch ra command only shows the 13-byte address of the switch instead of the full 19 bytes of all edge devices connected to the switch. The route pnni topology link command only shows up to 14 pnni links. If there are more than 14 links, only 14 links will be shown and ½ of the 15 th link. The route pnni topologoy ra command only shows up to 20 reachable addresses. If your system exceeds either of these limits, the following command must be entered on each of the modules: Route pnni config buffactor [<factor>] If the command is written without the parameter <factor>, it returns the buffactor value. The <factor> parameter increases the amount of links or reachable addresses that will be written on the screen. The following table shows the factor value and its corresponding limits on the amount of links and reachable addresses. Factor Number of Reachable Addresses Number of PNNI Links Cajun M770 ATM Switch Release Notes 3
CAC Algorithm The CAC algorithm (PCR or SGCAC) is not saved in the snapshot file. Payload Scrambling Mode The Payload Scrambling Mode parameter mistakenly reports that the mode is OFF when is really ON and vice versa. CajunView M770 ATM Manager with the M15-155SF Module The module label of the M15-155SF Module is always green. Once the module M15-155SF has been selected, it is impossible to reselect. You must close and reopen the zoom to open module parameter windows. CajunView Download Manager The CajunView Download Manager does not yet support the M15-155SF. To download the Main S/W version use the Command Line Interface (CLI). Where to Get the Software In order to benefit from the latest features, the module must use the latest software version. Modules loaded with earlier versions should be upgraded by performing a software download. To check what software version you have, type version in the Command Line Interface (CLI) of the module or open the CajunView management software module-configuration screen. The latest software is shipped with the M770 ATM module. FTP You can also download the new version from the Lucent Technologies Networks' FTP server: 1. To connect to the FTP server, from a PC or workstation, enter the following commands: % ftp or % ftp web.lannet.com 2. You will be prompted to enter your user name and password. Use the following name and password: User Name: elstech Password: elstech 3. This will log you into the site and provide you with read-only access to the relevant directories. Downloadable software for the Cajun M770 modules is placed under the directory m770. To download the latest agent and BOOT Loader codes for the M15-155F/SF or M3-622F/SF modules, first type the command: 4 Cajun M770 ATM Switch Release Notes
% cd m770/m15155f/ver_1.1.7 or % cd m770/m3622f/ver_ Download the code to your station by using the "bin" command followed by the "mget" command. % bin % mget * The Filename of the Main code is m770atm The Filename of the Boot Loader code is m770atmbl (bl=lowercase BL not B1) World-Wide Web You can also download the latest agent software from the Lucent Networks Web Site. 1. Go to the Lucent Networks Software Download Site using your WWW browser: 2. Click on the Cajun M770 icon ( ). 3. Click on M15-155F or M3-622F version 1.1.x in the list of Cajun M770 Latest Software Versions to download the file. Details of the file size and accompanying documentation are given for each software version. How To Download Software to the Module Software download is most easily performed via SNMP using a CajunView network management station. Instructions can be found in the in the Download Manager User s Guide (CajunView 1.6). To download to a module, you need to install CajunView 1.6 Update 3. You can obtain this update at the following Web Site: Click on the CajunView Montage icon, then on the next page select CajunView in the "Available Software Updates" section and click "Go!". All the available Updates are listed on the following web page. Software download can also be performed via TFTP using a terminal connected to the module. Full download instructions can be found in the module s User's Guide. Warning: In order to upgrade to Main S/W Ver or higher, you must: 2. Download Boot Loader Ver (named m770atmbl.1.1.5). 4. Delete all old 1.0.X Boot Loader versions. 5. Download the Main S/W Ver (named m770atm.1.1.7). If you wish to revert back to Main S/W Ver. 1.0.X, you MUST use Boot Loader or higher. 6 Additions and Changes to the M770 ATM Switch User's Guide S/W Ver 1.0 Note: There is no User's Guide for Ver This Section describes the additions and changes to the Ver. 1.0 User's Guide. Connecting to a third party switch via PNNI (Page 11) There is no special configuration needed on a port that will be connected to a 3 rd party switch that supports PNNI 1.0. Setting passwords for local/remote connections (Page 25-26) To protect the Cajun M770 ATM Switch from accidental or unauthorized configuration from a local (via the serial port) or remote end-station (via Telnet), you may want to set a password for the switch. The following sequence shows you how to set a password for the switch for the first time. Because no password exists, the M770 ATM Switch does not prompt for the old password. Command: M770s8:/>password Output: There is no password at the moment. Enter the new password (does not echo): ******** [ENTER] Enter the new password again (does not echo): ******** [ENTER] Password changed. To delete a password Enter the old password and press Enter for the new password. Managing the Sub Agents This command displays or accesses other modules in the switch. It opens a telnet session to the module located in slot <slot_number>. If <slot_number> is not entered, all modules in the switch will be listed. To return to the Master Agent type exit. Command: Access [<slot_number>] Example: M770s8:/>access list of all modules found in the switch =================================== M15-155F in slot 13 (Master Agent) M15-155F in slot 14 M770s8:/>access 13 Welcome to the Lucent Technologies - Cajun M770 ATM Switch command line interface M770s13:/>exit M770s8:/> 6 Cajun M770 ATM Switch Release Notes
Setting the switch prefix to its default value (Addition to Chapter 4) The default prefix is xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx where x is the MAC address of the switch master agent module. To change the switch prefix for the M770 ATM Switch to its default value, use the address default command. Command: M770s8:/>address default Output Done. Note: You must reboot the switch before the above command will take affect. You must update all the other affected switches static routing table entries with the new switch prefix. If you are using PNNI routing then the affected routing entries will be updated automatically. Setting the ILMI version on a virtual port (Addition to Chapter 6) This parameter changes the ILMI version used on this vport. By default, this parameter is ILMI 4.0 which is backwards compatible with devices using ILMI 3.1. To set the ILMI version on the virtual port use the vport set ilmiver command. Command: M770s8:/>vport set ilmiver <vport id> [31 40] Example: M770s8:/>vport set ilmiver Parameters: <vport id> The virtual port in the form <slot>.<port>.<virtual port number>. [31 40] Changes the ILMI version to ILMI 3.1 or 4.0 Listing Switch Virtual Circuits (Page 70) To list the details of all SVCs, enter the command vport connections svcs: Command: M770s8:/> vport connections svcs [nomesh] [addr] [<vport id>] [src dst] [<vportid>] [dir] Example: M770s8:/>vport set ilmiver Parameters: [nomesh] will print the SVCs except the LANE mesh SVCs [addr] will print the ATM addresses where available [<vport id>] will print all SVCs passing through the vport [<vport id>] will print the incoming outgoing SVCs from to [src dst] the vport [<vport id>] [<vport id>] will print all SVCs between the two vports [<vport id>] [<vport id>] dir will print all SVCs from the first vport to the second vport Note: Before any virtual port parameters can be changed or reset, you must disable the virtual port. For more information about how to disable a virtual port, see Disabling a virtual port earlier in this chapter. Cajun M770 ATM Switch Release Notes 7
PNNI Local Switch Information (Addition to Chapter 10) The following commands show information for the entire switch. Local Switch links This command shows all PNNI links that are directly connected to any module in the switch. Command: M770s8:/>route pnni local switch link Output: Node Id: 38.a f bc.61.de f Port: <---+ Port: <---+ Node Id: 38.a f bc.61.de f This represents the fact that 2 Horizontal Links PTSEs for 2 routable uni-directional links exist in the local node database. The link is identified by the node ID and the port number of its ends. If the link does not exist, an X will be displayed on the vertical line. Local Switch Reachable Addresses This command displays the 19-byte address of end stations directly connected to the switch. These addresses were either learned via ILMI or added manually in the static route table. The addresses here are all of the addresses seen in each of the modules using the route pnni local ra command. To show local switch reachable addresses (RAs), use the following command: Command: M770s8:/>route pnni local switch ra Examples: Local Ra: Len = 152 bits Prefix = f bc.61.de f Port Type Internal Local Ra: Len = 152 bits Prefix = a0.3e Port Type Internal 8 Cajun M770 ATM Switch Release Notes
The output of this command displays a list of all local switch Reachable Addresses. For each address it shows the following information: Field Description Len The address length in bits. The maximum length would be 152 bits, as ATM routing is done for only 19 bytes addresses. The last byte of the ATM address (the selector) has local significance only, and does not affect routing. Prefix The ATM address prefix (up-to 19 bytes) that is known to PNNI. Port and Type Table Provide a table of all the local ports that this address is registered on. For each port it can be either Internal address or Exterior address. Port 0 on the local slot indicates the CPU. Addresses registered on the CPU port indicates services that are registered on the local switch, for example, the LECS address as appears in the above example. LANE configuration file config.data (Addition to Chapter 13) A module s LANE configuration is saved in a flash file called config.data. After a change is made to the module s LANE configuration, it is written into this file. If there is not enough room in flash memory for new LANE changes to be saved, you will receive the following message: There is not enough room in flash to save your latest change. If a reset occurs, this change will be lost. If this occurs, you need to delete at least one of the unused files in flash in order for the LANE configuration to be saved. Upgrading Cajun M770 ATM Switch Software, section Activating a configuration file (Addition to Chapter 19) After activating a new configuration file and performing a reset to the module, the module takes longer than normal time to boot because it is using the new values. Because of this, when activating a configuration file that has switch-wide parameters (such as the ATM prefix or IP address) different from the current RAM settings, the module needs to be alone in the switch. If there are other modules in the switch, the module using the new config file will take longer to boot up, and another module in the switch will become the master agent and use the old switch-wide settings.
