3 Step 1. Disable Anti-Virus Recovering Data from iphone Device Before using your irecovery Stick, you must first disable your anti-virus software. If you do not disable your anti-virus, your stick may be damaged. Step 2. Driver Installation 1. Plug the irecovery Stick into your computer s USB Port. 2. Make sure the irecovery Stick is detected by Windows. It is detected as a common USB drive and will be marked as a Removable drive in the list of your drives. The following is an example of what Windows will display. 3. Next open Windows Explorer or My Computer and select the Removable Disk that is the irecovery Stick. As seen below: 3

4 4. Double-click the irecoverystick.exe to start it. irecoverystick.exe is the highlighted file below: 5. Installation of drivers. If drivers for iphone/ipad/ipod Touch are not installed, the irecovery Driver Pack installation wizard starts. Below is the first screen that will come up prompting you for the driver installation: 6. Click Next in the Driver Pack installation wizard. 7. You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. Accept and click Next. 4

5 8. On the Customize Setup page, you do not need to change any settings, click Next. 9. On the Ready to Install page, click Next to start driver installation. 10. Installation will now start. 11. When installation is finished, click Finish on the last page of the Driver Pack installation wizard. 12. Remove the irecovery Stick from the USB port. 13. It is now recommended that you restart the computer to make sure installation has been completed correctly. 14. To verify that drivers have been installed correctly, the QuickTime item will now appear under your Start menu. 5

6 Step 3. Data Acquisition and Recovery 1. Plug the irecovery Stick into a USB port of your computer. 2. Make sure the irecovery Stick is detected by Windows. It is detected as a common USB drive and will be marked as a Removable drive in the list of your drives. The following is an example of what Windows will display. 3. 7 6. Connect your iphone/ipad/ipod Touch into a different USB Port on the computer using the cable that came with your irecovery Stick. Make sure your device is powered ON when it is connected. 7. Ensure that the device is unlocked. Please, note, iphone 5s devices have a fingerprint protection. 8. Click Start Recovery on the Main page. 7

8 9. Click the image of the device you want to scan. NOTE: If multiple devices are connected to your computer, multiple images are displayed. NOTE: If a picture of your device does not appear, please reconnect the device (sometimes it makes sense to use back USB ports instead of front) and make sure it is powered ON. 8

Select one of the following acquisition options and click corresponding button to start acquisition: Acquire textual and multimedia data: This type of acquisition allows acquiring graphics and multimedia along with the textual data. Acquire all data including 3 rd party Apps: This type of acquisition takes longer. Acquired data will contain not only text data and multimedia, but a full list of applications installed on the device and data from most popular applications (Skype, Facebook, etc.). 11. On your device screen, check to see if a message appears that says: Trust This Computer? Select Trust. 12. The details of the acquisition process are displayed in the Acquisition details pane in the bottom of the screen. 9

10 13. When the acquisition finishes, you can start reviewing the data. 14. All of the case data is automatically saved to the default location specified at the beginning of the process. If you did not change to a specific location, it will be saved to the default location. You can find the default location by going to Tools> Options. 10

12 How to Update irecovery Stick If you have an old version of the irecovery Stick you can easily update it online. 1. Connect the stick to the computer with Internet connection and start the irecovery stick application (in a common way). 2. You are proposed to check for irecovery stick updates. Click Yes. 3. If you have selected not to show this message, select Tools>Check for Updates. 4. The application connects to the update server via Internet. 5. If no updates are required, you will get the corresponding message. Click Cancel. 6. Otherwise, the update downloading starts. Depending on your network connection speed it might take much time. 12

13 7. When updates are downloaded and extracted, the application closes and the console window opens. 8. When the update process finishes, the console window closes and the updated irecovery application starts. Now it is ready for use. 13

14 Troubleshooting Guide The following section provides answers for some common issues that you may encounter when using irecovery Stick. Most issues you will run into are due to phone PINs or phone encryption (itunes backup passwords). If your phone has a PIN, you can remove the PIN or set the phone screen to never turn off (see the first troubleshooting solution below). If your phone is encrypted (i.e. you set a password on the itunes backup file), you must remove the password and create a non-password protected backup before performing a recovery. Another option for recovery is processing the itunes backup file. Most backups are not password protected and will process without error. If there is a password, for ios 10 and below, you can enter the password and the recovery will process without error. Problem: The recovery failed and I get the following message: Please remove the device password or set the Auto-lock option in device settings to Never Solution 1 Set Auto-lock to Never: If the device has a PIN, you must either remove the PIN temporarily or you must set the screen to never turn off. To set the screen to never turn off, follow these instructions before performing a recovery: 1. Go to Settings/Display & Brightness 14

15 2. Slide the Auto-Brightness all the way to the left to preserve battery life during the recovery and then click Auto-Lock 3. Check Never 15

16 Click on Display & Brightness at the top of the screen to save the setting. Solution 2 Remove the PIN: If you would rather just remove the PIN, you can go to Settings/Touch ID & Passcode (you will be asked to enter the current PIN) and tap the Turn Passcode Off option. Tap Turn Off and re-enter your PIN. Solution 3 Remove itunes Password (Encryption): The recovery may fail because you or somebody else has enabled backup encryption of the device through itunes. To complete a recovery, you must turn off encryption and create a new backup file. To turn off the Encrypt iphone Backup function, do the following: 1. Open the itunes application. 2. Select the connected device in the itunes application. 3. The device menu opens. 4. Click the Summary tab. 5. In the Backups section, clear the Encrypt iphone backup checkbox. 6. Click Done. 7. Create a new backup. Problem: The iphone hung. What do I do? Solution: Reset the iphone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time. This will not remove any data from the device, but will allow the device to be restarted and not be hung anymore. 16

18 Problem: The iphone doesn't connect to the computer. What should I do? Solution: Please try one of the following: The iphone battery might need to be recharged. Make sure it is charged at least 50% before starting your recovery. Change USB ports on the computer. If the device was plugged into one part, move it to a different port on the computer and retry the process. Power the iphone off and power it back on again and reconnect the device to the computer. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on the top of the iphone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. Unplug the device, and restart the computer and repeat all the above steps including driver installation. Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of itunes from 18

19 Problem: I cannot acquire data from the device, the process fails on start. What do I do? Solution: You need to uninstall the Apple software components and then reinstall the irecovery Driver Pack. Follow the Apple support instruction ( to properly uninstall Apple software components. After this, uninstall the Driver Pack and install it again. Problem: When I launch the stick, all functions are disabled and a message appears asking me to activate the program, although the stick worked fine before. What happened? Solution: Most probably you have renamed the stick drive. In this case, you need to rename the stick back to irecovery. 19
