4 Build Version: Notes: NOTE: Applying this patch to the 3PAR OS might restart the affected OS components. With these restarts, events and alerts might be generated and this is an expected behavior. The array continues to serve data, but existing CLI or SSMC sessions might be interrupted. Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends installing patches in the same sequence as they are released, unless instructed otherwise. When displaying the showversion command output from the SP, the CLI Client version is fixed in the SP code and may differ from the output from any other system. 4

5 Modifications included in this patch Issue ID: Issue summary: The array unexpectedly restarts when using compressed Read Only (RO) snapshots. Affected platforms: StoreServ 8000, StoreServ 9000, StoreServ 20000, StoreServ R2 Affected software versions: GA Issue description: The array unexpectedly restarts when multiple compressed RO snapshots exist and when compressed Read Only (RO) snapshots are removed. Symptoms: The array or a single controller node unexpectedly restarts CLI commands become unresponsive Attempts to remove a VV are repeatedly unsuccessful Conditions of occurrence: Presence of compressed volumes with multiple read-only snapshots Impact: High Customer circumvention: None Issue ID: Issue Summary: Unexpected array restart due to out of order snapshot removal. Platforms affected: All StoreServ Affected software versions: 3.2.2, Issue Description: This issue is caused by an out of order snapshot removal when the parent snapshot removal has not completed successfully and the child snapshot is removed. Symptoms: Unexpected array restart Conditions of Occurrence: A parent snapshot removal does not complete successfully, but the child snapshot is removed. Impact: High Customer circumvention: Remove snapshots individually rather than as part of a set. 5

6 Issue ID: Issue Summary: Unexpected controller node restarts may occur when using compressed VVs. Platforms affected: StoreServ 8000, StoreServ 9000, StoreServ 20000, StoreServ 20000R2 Affected software versions: GA - MU1 Issue Description: An unexpected controller node restart due to dynamically allocated memory resources not being freed when using compressed virtual volumes. Symptoms: An unexpected controller node restart occurs while using compressed VVs. Conditions of Occurrence: Using Compressed VVs. Impact: Medium Customer circumvention: None Issue ID: Issue Summary: Unexpected controller node reboots due to defrag being attempted on TDVV. Platforms affected: StoreServ 7000, StoreServ Affected software versions: 3.2.1, 3.2.2, Issue Description: Unexpected controller node reboots due to defragmentation being attempted on TDVV volumes which is caused by defragmentation running while I/O continues on TDVVs. Symptoms: Controller nodes unexpectedly restart. Conditions of Occurrence: Presence of TDVV volumes Impact: High Customer circumvention: None 6

Platforms affected: All StoreServ Affected software versions: 331 GA - MU1 Issue Description: Host I/O stalls due to CMPs not being recycled when the "checkvv -fixsd" operation is running while I/O to compressed volumes is occurring. Symptoms: Host I/O stalls Unexpected controller node restarts Conditions of Occurrence: "checkvv -fixsd" operation running while I/O to compressed volumes is occurring. Impact: Medium Customer circumvention: None Issue ID: Issue Summary: An unexpected controller node restart after SD metadata has been detected as inconsistent on a compressed VV. Platforms affected: StoreServ 8000, StoreServ 9000, StoreServ 20000, StoreServ R2 Affected software versions: GA - MU1 Issue Description: An unexpected controller node restarts after SD metadata inconsistency has already occurred on a compressed Virtual Volume. Symptoms: A controller node restarts unexpectedly Conditions of Occurrence: A compressed volume is running on the array An SD metadata inconsistency is detected on the compressed volume Impact: High Customer circumvention: None 7

Platforms affected: StoreServ 8000, StoreServ 9000, StoreServ 20000, StoreServ R2 Affected software versions: GA - MU1 Issue Description: Unexpected controller node restarts when performing metadata consistency checks on compressed volumes. Symptoms: Multiple unexpected controller node restarts. Conditions of Occurrence: Using checkvv -fixsd to validate the metadata on compressed volumes. Impact: High Customer circumvention: Do not use checkvv -fixsd on compressed volumes. Issue ID: Issue Summary: Metadata inconsistencies may remain undetected after checkvv -fixsd is run. Platforms affected: StoreServ 8000, StoreServ 9000, StoreServ 20000, StoreServ R2 Affected software versions: GA - MU1 Issue Description: Metadata inconsistencies on compressed volumes may remain undetected after checkvv fixsd is run. Symptoms: Compressed volumes with metadata inconsistencies are not available. Conditions of Occurrence: checkvv -fixsd is run on compressed volumes, but those volumes still report metadata inconsistencies. Impact: High Customer circumvention: None 8
