You have an advanced understanding of the Windows environment/os You are a database or network admin. You have MSSQL installed on your server. 3 Step 1: TG Web Installer Files Files Needed Note: These files/file names may vary based on your installation. Please consult the you received, specifying which files to download. 6 Step 2: Installing JAVA Runtime Run/open the jdk-6u20-windows-i586.exe installer. Accept the license agreement.

9 Step 2: Installing JAVA Runtime Open Windows Explorer, right click My Computer and Select Properties 1 and then click on Advanced System Settings 2

10 Step 2: Installing JAVA Runtime Click on Environment Variables 1 2 Under System Variables, click New

11 Step 2: Installing JAVA Runtime Type the following information into the fields. In the Variable Name field, type in JAVA_HOME In the Variable Value field, type in: c:\program files\java\jdk1.6.0_17 Note: this location may vary based on the location of the Java directory. Click OK to close the New User Variable window. Next Click OK to close the Environmental Variables window. Click OK to close the System Properties window.

13 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation Locate the Tester_Package that was included in your TG Web installation . Extract and open/run the jakarta-tomcat exe installer.

14 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation This will display Using Java Development Kit found in [path will vary based on where the Java directory is installed on your system.] 1 Clicking OK will then launch the installer and present the license screen. Click the I Agree button to continue. 2

15 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation The following installation screens describe each step of the Tomcat installation. Select/check the NT Service (NT/2k/XP only) option and click Next.

16 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation The default Destination Folder is defined in the field. Click Install.

17 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation The Installation window appears Completed. Click Next.

18 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation The Basic settings window allows you to enter a User Name and Password. 1 These are optional settings if you need to access the system remotely. Click Finish. Tomcat service started successfully. 2

19 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation Tomcat can be started and stopped from Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools 1 Under the Administrative Tools, select Services 2 Locate the Tomcat service and click the Stop icon to stop the service. 3

20 Step 3: Apache/Tomcat Installation Locate the Tomcat 4.1\webapps directory. Add a new directory under \webapps. Name the directory tester (lowercase). 1 In your TG Web installation files, locate the tester.war file and rename it to tester.zip. 2 If you haven t already done so, open the tester.zip file and extract the contents into the Tomcat webapps\tester folder

22 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Files Needed Assumptions: You already have MSSQL installed on your server. Note: Your installation of TG Web cannot proceed without the presence of MSSQL. ODBC Drivers No additional ODBC drivers required.

23 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Go to Start and select: Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Manage Studio Express In this example, the Server name is displayed your Server name will be different. Click the Connect button.

24 Step 4: MSSQL Installation 1- Expand the console root. Right-click and select Properties. 2- Click on Security and "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode. Click OK. 1 2

25 Step 4: MSSQL Installation You may get the following prompt if you do, click OK. Restart SQL Server Click Yes.

26 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Installer sequence, Service Control prompt: Once the service has been restarted, from the Management console select Databases, r-click and select Restore Database.

27 Step 4: MSSQL Installation The Restore Database window will appear: 1- Under To database, give the database a name for example db_tg. Important: keep track of this information as you will use it later on as part of your installation Click From Device and select the database restore file provided. Click OK.

28 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Check the backup set to Restore. Click Options and make sure the paths under Restore the database files as: are valid on your machine. Edit the paths as needed. Click OK

29 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Expand Security, r-click Logins and click New Login... Under Login name:, provide a new username, for example tg_user. Important: keep track of this information as you will use it later on.

30 Step 4: MSSQL Installation 1- Select SQL Server authentication and type in a password, for example tg_pass. Important: keep track of this information as you will use it later on Uncheck the Enforce password policy checkbox. Note: the other two checkboxes will gray out automatically Under "Default Database", select the database that was recently created -- db_tg in our example.

31 Step 4: MSSQL Installation 1- Click on User Mapping In the Users mapped to this login table, click the checkbox next to the database you created in our example, db_tg. In the Database role membership for: window, click db_owner. Click OK to exit Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express

32 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Go to: Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager Make sure TCP/IP under Protocols for SQLEXPRESS is enabled: Right-click and select Properties.

33 Step 4: MSSQL Installation Right-click and select Properties. From the TCP/IP Properties window, click on the IP Addresses tab. Scroll down to the IPAll section of the window. Note the TCP Dynamic Ports value. You will apply this port # when entering values into the DBSelect utility see Step 5 of this tutorial for details.

36 Step 5: DBSelect Utility Before installation the TG Client Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Settings > Services In the displayed services, locate and turn off Tomcat Locate the TG client installer file, TG2E_TestGen-r2.4.##_Installer.exe Install TG on machines that will be used by test administrators/authors. When the installation is complete, turn on the Tomcat service. Assumptions You have Successfully completed Step1 through Step 4. Located and are prepared to install the TG installation client. Administrative rights to the computer on which you are doing the install. You have written down the db parameters to include a) the server name b) the database name c) the user name and d) the password

37 Step 5: DBSelect Utility DBSelect The dbselect utility allows the TG Administrator to select from among various databases on the network. The DBSelect Utility is installed when you install the TG client. If TG is installed in the default location, DBSelect.exe is located under the C:\Program Files\Test Generator directory. Note: In this example, these screens will appear during the installation of the TG client, TG2e_TestGen-r2.4.##_Installer.exe.

38 Step 5: DBSelect Utility Database Select database type, SQL Server. Click Next. Click Next

39 Step 5: DBSelect Utility Parameters In order to connect to your database you need to type in the database parameters you defined in Step 4. Server: your server or IP address Database Name: your db name User Name: your db user name Password: <password> Port: < > Generate web.xml Click the Generate web.xml button. When prompted, save the generated file under the Tomcat installation directory \Tomcat 4.1\webapps\tester\WEB-INF Here s what it looks like:

40 Step 5: DBSelect Utility Test Connection After generating the web.xml file, you want to test the connection to make sure that the connection parameters you entered are correct. When you click the Test Connection button you should see the Connection to the database was successful. message. Click OK and the Next button. If the connection parameters are incorrect you will get an error message. Double-check the parameters for possible errors and click Test Connection again. If you continue to receive an error message, review the tutorial again to make sure you haven t missed a setting, and then try again.

41 Step 5: DBSelect Utility Summary Once you click the Finish button your database settings will be updated. Next, turn the Tomcat service on. When you open your TG or Tester client, you will be accessing the database that you defined in the previous screen. Click the Home button to return to the main menu. Click Finish

42 TG Client Installation Summary Note: Installing the TG admin client on the server is optional but convenient for the purpose of generating the web.xml file. If a TG admin client is not installed on the server: A- From the server: go to the \Tomcat 4.1\webapps\tester\WEB-INF directory and copy the web.xml.tmpl file. B- On a computer containing a TG admin client: Copy the web.xml.tmpl file to the Documents folder or any folder that is easily accessible by you. C- Next, using the DBSelect utility, enter the parameters described earlier in this tutorial and then click the Generate web.xml button to generate and save the web.xml file in the same folder described in B. D- Next, make a copy of the web.xml file and copy it back onto the server, placing it under the \Tomcat 4.1\webapps\tester\WEB-INF directory. E- Using DBSelect.exe, you may want click the Test Connection button to confirm that your connection to the db was successful.

43 DBSelect Utility Summary Opening Your TG Web Client Your test takers will logging in to take test by opening a browser and logging in to TG s Web Tester. Unless otherwise defined, your web Tester will be located here: or Note: If some other service/process is already using port 8080, you can change the default Tomcat installation port by: 1- Turning Tomcat off. 2- On the server, under the tomcat installation folder, locate the conf/server.xml, and change all occurrences of 8080 to another port (e.g., 8888), or contact support@testshop.com for more details. 3- Restart Tomcat

44 DBSelect Utility Summary Your TG Key If, when you open TG, you get a license expiration display, please visit: for product activation instructions. Important: If you have purchased a subscription, your TG Web application will go dark on the date displayed under TG s System > Settings.
