4 March 28: Evidence.com March 2017 Release Skin Blurring for Video Evidence Redaction In January, we announced the Skin Blurring redaction feature and this month we are pleased to make this feature available in Evidence.com. When using this feature, the user selects the level of skin blurring. Then, during processing, the redaction algorithm searches for skin tones throughout the video and blurs them to the selected level. This feature can only be accessed by users that have Redact permission in their assigned role. Note: Starting on March 28, this feature will be progressively rolled out to all agencies over the next couple of weeks. Like other redaction options, skin blurring can be used with the full-length video evidence file. Evidence.com never alters the original video evidence file when you create a clip or a redaction. Skin Blurring Redaction Workflow 1. Search for and select video evidence you to redact. 2. Click the Redaction tab. 3. Click Create New Redaction. TASER International, Inc. Page 4 of 11

5 4. Select Skin Blur and click Next. 5. Select the blur level you want to apply to the redaction and click Process. 6. The file is sent for redaction processing. Click Okay to acknowledge this action. TASER International, Inc. Page 5 of 11

6 The redaction is added to the evidence redaction list with a processing status. When you receive notification that processing is complete, you can view the extracted redaction by clicking the link or by going to the evidence, clicking the Redaction tab, and then clicking View for the file. Configurable Pre-Event Buffering This change adds configurable times for pre-event buffering setting. This allows agencies to set the pre-event buffering time in 30 second increments for up to 120 seconds (two minutes). TASER International, Inc. Page 6 of 11

7 Note: Pre-event buffering settings above 30 seconds are only available for Axon Body 2 and Axon Flex 2 cameras with the v1.9 firmware release. This setting can be configured on the Body Camera Settings page by users with Device Administration permission. The setting is also shown in Evidence Sync, if an Axon Body 2 and Axon Flex 2 camera is connected. Early Access Devices Early Access Devices are an optional way for an agency to set up Axon Body 2 cameras and Axon Docks as test devices that receive firmware updates before the general release of the updates. Axon is confident in the quality of our validation and release process. This option is designed to provide agencies with the opportunity to review and test the changes in their own environment on a small scale before full deployment. Note: You must have Axon Dock firmware v3.6 or higher to use early access devices. If your agency chooses to use this option, your administrators will receive an informing them about the upcoming early access firmware update. When the update is deployed, only devices specified by your agency will receive the early firmware update. You can have up to 15 cameras and 15 docks specified as early access devices. Axon recommends that you regularly test your early access devices to ensure the firmware updates do not impact your current processes. Additionally, you should control access and deployment of these devices, since the firmware version for the devices can be out of synchronization with other devices at your agency. If your agency finds problems with a firmware update during testing, please contact Customer Service and let them know that you are having an issue with an early access device. Add a Device to the Early Access List 1. On the menu bar, click Admin, and then under Device, click Early Access Devices. 2. To add an Axon Body 2 Camera to the early access device list: TASER International, Inc. Page 7 of 11

8 Click Add Camera. Enter the camera serial number and click Save. Note: Serial numbers for Axon Body 2 Cameras always begins with X To add an Axon Dock to the early access device list: Click Add Dock. Enter the dock serial number and click Save. Note: Serial numbers for Axon Docks always begins with X79. Remove a Device from the Early Access List 1. On the menu bar, click Admin, and then under Device, click Early Access Devices. 2. Find the device, camera or dock, you want to remove from the early access device list. 3. Click (delete), the device is removed from the list. End of Evidence.com Access for Internet Explorer 9 In 2016 Evidence.com officially ended support for Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9). In the April 2017 release of Evidence.com, you will no longer be able to sign in to Evidence.com using IE 9. This change supports TASER Axon's commitment to secure Evidence.com for all our customers. After the April 2017 release, users will be required to use a version of Internet Explorer greater than IE 9 or an alternate browser when accessing Evidence.com. To ensure the best experience when using Evidence.com, users should use only supported browsers as detailed in the TASER Axon Help Center. TASER International, Inc. Page 8 of 11

9 Evidence.com Roles & Permissions Administration Updates The March Release adds some updates to Roles & Permissions administration. This month, the updated Roles and Permission pages are available to all agencies. In addition to a cleaner look and feel, the following changes were made to the pages: On the Roles page, the list of roles is now divided into three sections, based on license tiers. There is a section for Pro roles, one for Basic roles, and one for Lite roles. When creating or editing roles, you can select the license tier associated with the role. Note that you cannot create or edit Lite roles. You can copy the permission settings from an existing role to a new role using the duplicate function. This is done by finding the role you want to copy and selecting to edit the role. Then click the Duplicate button at the bottom of the page and enter a name for the new role. Permissions that are part of the Pro license tier are clearly marked in the permission lists and are not editable if the Basic license tier is selected for the role. When creating or editing roles, you can view descriptions of the permission settings in each group by clicking the title of the group. TASER International, Inc. Page 9 of 11

10 Finally, last month we announced the new Lite Armorer pre-configured role and new CEW Administration permission. After the release of Evidence Sync v in late March, users with the Lite Armorer role will not be able to manage non-cew devices. Evidence Audit Log Update This change adds a new evidence audit log entry to note that the Evidence.com system automatically buffers the video at page load to improve video playback when users access a video evidence page. With this change, when users access and play video evidence there will be three audit log activity entries (previously there were only two): Evidence Record Accessed Triggered when an evidence page is loaded. This is an existing audit log activity entry and the behavior was unchanged. Video Evidence Buffered by System at Page Load Triggered when Evidence.com pre-buffers video evidence to the user s browser. This is a system action that occurs when a user accesses video evidence. This is the new audit log entry. Evidence Record Streamed Triggered when a browser self-reports that video evidence was played by user. This is an existing audit log activity entry and the behavior was unchanged. Issues Resolved in Evidence.com March 2017 We resolved the following issues in this Evidence.com release: Evidence View: Supporting information about users who created or updated evidence was not being shown for externally shared evidence. Groups: The ampersand Unicode value was shown in place of the ampersand character (&) in group names. Axon Capture for ios Updates The Axon Capture for ios mobile app will receive an update in March that includes the following enhancement: Added the ability to turn on the Axon watermark for video evidence captured through the application. The watermark can be enabled and disabled in TASER International, Inc. Page 10 of 11

11 Evidence.com on the Body Camera Settings page by users with Device Administration permission. The watermark uses the same general format as the watermark for Axon Body 2 and Axon Flex 2 cameras, but also shows elapsed time for the video.
