3 Upgrade to vworkspace 7.1 The following outlines recommended procedures for upgrading your vworkspace environment to version 7.1. While these procedures are our recommendation, it is your responsibility to have a current backup of configuration components, such as the database, and a plan to minimise the impact of the upgrade on your environment. Recommendations: Backup your SQL database for vworkspace before starting the upgrade process. Install in a test environment where there are no production impacts. It is important that you complete the steps in the presented order; completing all the activities before moving to the next step. However, some of the upgrade steps may not be applicable to your environment, and if so, you may skip over them. Download vworkspace Before starting the upgrade, you must download the vworkspace software. Use the following steps to complete this download. You can download vworkspace from the following web sites: An account name and password is required to access downloads from both the Quest SupportLink and the Quest vworkspace web sites. Use the following steps to download the vworkspace software from the Quest vworkspace web site. 1. Enter the URL 2. Click the Download link at the top of the page. 1

4 vworkspace Upgrade Guidelines 3. Enter your user login and password, and then click Enter. If you do not have a user account, you can create one by selecting New Users Register Here. 4. Select the link for the component category you want to download on the Downloads page. Use the following steps to download the vworkspace software from the Quest SupportLink web site. 1. Enter the URL 2. Enter your SupportLink login information. 3. If you do not have a user account, you can create one by selecting Register. 4. Click Product Downloads. 5. Enter vworkspace into the Product Name field, and then click Go. 6. Select the version that you want to download from the Product Version section. 7. Click Logout when you have completed the process. 5 Upgrade the Connection Brokers Prior to starting this upgrade, ensure that database caching is not enabled. Open the vworkspace Management Console, right-click on the top node (Farm name), and select Farm Properties. Select Database Cache and make sure the Create local host cache on all servers setting is unselected. Click OK to save the change. 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, click on start.exe to start the installer program. 2. Click Install on the vworkspace home window to start the installation process. 3. Accept the License agreement, and then click Next. 4. Click Upgrade on the Previous Version Detected window. 5. Click Yes to restart your computer. 6. Click Next on the Welcome window. 7. Accept the License agreement, and then click Next. 8. Enter the appropriate information on the Customer Information window, and then click Next. 9. Select Connection Broker Service from the list of available features on the Custom Setup window. 10. Select from the following: Select the Integration with VMware VI3 subfeature if you plan to use vworkspace in conjunction with VMware and then click Next. Select the Integration with Microsoft SCVMM/Hyper-V subfeature if you plan to use vworkspace in conjunction with Microsoft Hyper-V servers, and then click Next. Select the Integration with Parallels Virtuozzo subfeature if you plan to use vworkspace in conjunction with Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, and then click Next. 3

6 vworkspace Upgrade Guidelines 11. Select Keep the existing database configuration from the options on the Current Database Configuration window, and then click Next. 4

7 12. Click Next on the Database Schema Upgrade window. 13. Click OK after the database schema was upgraded successfully. 14. If you are using VMware, complete the information on the VMware Keystore File Creation window by selecting one of the options, and then click Next. If you are not using VMware, click Next. 15. Click Next on the Add Server to Management Database window to verify if the named server exists in the management database. Click OK on the Server Added Successfully window. OR Click Skip to move to the next window without verifying if the server exists in the management database. 16. Click Finish to complete the installation. 17. Complete the upgrade process on all of your Connection Brokers. 5

8 vworkspace Upgrade Guidelines Upgrade the Terminal Servers 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, click start.exe to start the installer program. 2. Click Next on the Welcome window. 3. Select Modify on the Program Maintenance window, and then click Next. 4. Select Terminal Servers Enhancements (Provision-IT) from the Custom Setup window. 5. Expand the Power Tools for Terminal Servers option on the Custom Setup window, and select the options that are to be installed, and then click Next. 6. Click Install to begin the installation. 7. Click Finish. Upgrade the User Profiles Servers 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, click start.exe to start the installer program. 2. Click Next on the Welcome window. 3. Select Modify on the Program Maintenance window, and then click Next. 4. On the Custom Setup window, expand the Peripheral Server Extensions section and then select User Profile Storage Service. 5. Click Install to begin the installation. 6. Click Finish. Upgrade the Network Print-IT Servers 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, click start.exe to start the installer program. 2. Click Next on the Welcome window. 3. Select Modify on the Program Maintenance window, and then click Next. 4. On the Custom Setup window, expand the Peripheral Server Extensions section and then expand and select the appropriate Universal Network Print Services options. Click Next. 5. Click Install to being the installation. 6. Click Finish. 6

9 Upgrade the Secure-IT Servers 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, click start.exe to start the installer program. 2. Click Next on the Welcome window. 3. Select Modify on the Program Maintenance window, and then click Next. 4. On the Custom Setup window, expand Connectivity Features, and then select SSL Gateway (Secure-IT). Click Next. 5. Click Install to begin the installation. 6. Click Finish. Upgrade the Web Access (Web-IT) Servers The following are a list of prerequisites for the Web Access: Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 Microsoft ASP.NET Internet Information Services (IIS) If you are using Microsoft Windows Server 2008, the IIS Web Server Role must be enabled. If you are using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, see the vworkspace Installation Guide, Web Access and Microsoft Server 2008 and 2008 R2 section for more information on the services that must be enabled prior to using the vworkspace installer to install Web Access. How to... Install the Web Access 1. Ensure all of the prerequisites have been installed before continuing with this installation. 2. Execute start.exe. 3. Select Web Access (Web-IT) from Connectivity Features on the Custom Setup window. This feature is only available for installation if the WWW service is already installed. 4. Click Next and complete the installation. 7

10 vworkspace Upgrade Guidelines Upgrade the Password Management Servers 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, click start.exe to start the installer program. 2. Click Next on the Welcome window. 3. Select Modify on the Program Maintenance window, and then click Next. 4. On the Custom Setup window, expand Additional Components, and then select Password Reset Service. Click Next. 5. Click Install to begin the installation. 6. Click Finish. Upgrade the Hyper-V Broker Helper Service 1. From the Download link on the vworkspace web site, select Miscellaneous. 2. Select Broker Helper Service for Hyper-V. 3. Select brokerhelper.exe to start the installation. 4. Click Next on the welcome window of the Quest Broker Helper Service. 5. Click to accept the terms on the License agreement window, and then click Next. 6. Enter a User Name and Organization on the Customer Information window, and then click Next. 8

11 7. Click Install to start the installation. 8. Click Finish to complete the installation. Apply any Current Maintenance Releases 1. From the Download link on the vworkspace web site, select Hotfixes & Maintenance Releases. 2. Select the maintenance release and hotfixes that are appropriate for your version. Please note that maintenance releases are cumulative, so always select the latest one for your version. Uninstall PNTools from the VDI Machines It is recommended that you do not upgrade PNTools, but uninstall your current version. You can unistall manually or use the task automation feature to schedule an uninstall. 1. To uninstall PNTools manually: a) Open the vworkspace Management Console. b) Expand Locations, and then the location of the specified desktop group. c) Expand the Desktops node, and then highlight the computer group where the computer are located. d) Select the Computers tab. e) Highlight the computer or computers that PNTools is to be uninstalled. f) Right-click on one of the highlighted computers, and then use the following path: PNTools & Other MSI Packages PNTools Uninstall g) Follow the instructions to complete the uninstall. 2. To schedule an uninstall of PNTools: a) Open the vworkspace Management Console. b) Expand Locations, and then the location of the specified desktop group. c) Expand the Desktops node. d) Right-click on the computer group, and then select Properties. e) Select Task Automation from the left-pane, and then click on New. f) Click Next on the welcome window of the Automated Task Wizard. 9

12 vworkspace Upgrade Guidelines g) Enter a name for this automated task, and then click Next. h) Select the task, PNTools: Uninstall, and then click Next. i) Complete the Schedule window, as appropriate, and then click Finish. Install PNTools on the VDI Machines It is recommended that you do not upgrade PNTools, but uninstall and reinstall the current version. You can install PNTools manually or use the task automation feature to schedule an install. 1. To install PNTools manually: a) Open the vworkspace Management Console. b) Expand Locations, and then the location of the specified desktop group. c) Expand the Desktops node, and then highlight the computer group where the computer are located. d) Select the Computers tab. e) Highlight the computer or computers that PNTools is to be installed. f) Right-click on one of the highlighted computers, and then use the following path: PNTools & Other MSI Packages PNTools Install/Update g) Follow the instructions to complete the install. 2. To schedule an install of PNTools: a) Open the vworkspace Management Console. b) Expand Locations, and then the location of the specified desktop group. c) Expand the Desktops node. d) Right-click on the computer group, and then select Properties. e) Select Task Automation from the left-pane, and then click on New. 10

13 f) Click Next on the welcome window of the Automated Task Wizard. g) Enter a name for this automated task, and then click Next. h) Select the task, PNTools: Install/Update, and then click Next. i) Complete the Schedule window, as appropriate, and then click Finish. Upgrade the AppPortal Client 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, open the Clients folder. 2. Select the appropriate vasclient32 executable. 3. Click Next on the Welcome window. 4. Accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next. 5. Enter the appropriate information on the Customer Information window, and select one of the installation options. Click Next. 6. Click Next to install to the listed folder, or click Change to change the folder to which the AppPortal is installed. 7. Select Enable Credentials Pass-Through, as appropriate, and then click Next. 8. Select the appropriate shortcuts on the Shortcut Options window, and then click Next. 9. Click Install. 10. Click Finish. Update the Web Access Client 1. From the downloaded vworkspace file, open the Clients folder. 2. Select the vasclient32t executable. 3. Click Next on the Welcome window. 4. Accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next. 5. Enter the appropriate information on the Customer Information window, and select one of the installation options. Click Next. 6. Click Next to install to the listed folder, or click Change to change the folder to which the AppPortal is installed. 7. Select Enable Credentials Pass-Through, as appropriate, and then click Next. 8. Click Install. 9. Click Finish. 11
