Features Added i Versio 2.9.x TrasferMaager MXF OP1a FTP DHM Overview To eable iteroperability betwee Avid Uity family ad third-party devices that use the MXF OP1a file format, Avid has developed a optioal Avid Uity TrasferMaager Data Hadlig Module (DHM) plug-i that supports FTP itegratio to third-party MXF OP1a compliat devices. The TrasferMaager MXF OP1a FTP DHM allows MXF OP1a files to be brought ito a Avid Uity, Avid Uity ISIS, or a Avid editig eviromet from a FTP server. You ca also export Avid media files i MXF OP1a format to a FTP server usig this same MXF OP1a FTP DHM. The Avid FTP Media Browser applicatio allows you to browse the cotets of a FTP server to select the MXF OP1a files that you wat to import ito the Avid system. The MXF OP1a FTP DHM rewraps the imported files i either OMF format (OMF workgroup) or Avid MXF-OP-Atom format (MXF/AAF workgroup). The MXF OP1a FTP DHM supports IMX 30, 40, 50, DV25, ad DV50 i PAL ad NTSC. The media format is ot chaged durig the import process, just the metadata wrapper. Supported audio is 16-bit or 24-bit sampled at 48 khz with up to 8 audio tracks. The MXF OP1a FTP DHM also supports the export of Avid IMX 30, 40, 50, DV25, ad DV50 media to a FTP server i MXF OP1a format. The TrasferMaager MXF OP1a FTP DHM was writte to support MXF OP1a files that match the MXF OP1a referece stadard. Because some vedors implemet MXF OP1a support i a way that deviates from the referece stadard, Avid caot guaratee support for devices that do ot comply with the referece stadard. I additio, Play While Trasfer, Overwrite, Frame-Chase Editig, ad partial trasfer capabilities are ot supported with the MXF OP1a FTP DHM. Trasferrig To ad From Geeric FTP Servers TrasferMaager supports igest from ad playback to File Trasfer Protocol (FTP) servers that are compliat with FTP. You ca trasfer completed media sequeces betwee Avid editig applicatios ad geeric FTP type servers. The FTP trasfer of media is over stadard TCP/IP Etheret etwork. The FTP DHM supports coectios to a FTP server usig a valid DNS ame or IP address. The FTP DHM ca work with FTP servers o differet subets tha the TrasferMaager server. Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 must be istalled o the TrasferMaager server ad TrasferMaager cliet systems whe you are usig FTP DHM. You ca istall.net Framework durig the TrasferMaager istallatio. 7
Durig the trasfer, the FTP DHM compoet supports the Ru, Pause, Resume, Retry, ad Cacel fuctios that are available from the TrasferMaager server. Pause ad Resume fuctios are costraied by the time-out settig o the FTP server. The compoets support multi-threaded operatios that allow for simultaeous trasfer operatios to occur. If you cacel a trasfer before it is complete, the part of the trasfer that succeeded before the cacellatio remais o the server. Files igested do ot overwrite a already existig file. If a file already exists, a ew file is created. The audio or video format of the media is maitaied durig the igest process. Therefore, there is o visible or measurable distortio of either video or audio as a result of the trasfer process. To igest media from a FTP server: 1. Make sure the FTP server is properly coected ad cofigured; see the documetatio that came with your server. 2. Ope a bi or create a ew bi ad positio it i a uobstructed area. 3. From the Avid editig system, click the Start butto, ad the select All Programs > Avid > Utilities > Avid FTP Media Browser. 15

Workflow: Playback to a FTP Server Durig a playback operatio, media associated with a sequece from a Avid editig applicatio is trasferred to a FTP server. The media format i the Avid eviromet is either MXF/AAF or OMF/OMF. The format of the data trasferred to the FTP server is MXF OP1a format. However, the audio ad video quality remais the same as the ative Avid media. There is o visible or measurable distortio of either the video or audio as a result of the trasfer process, ad the trasfer preserves the origial media format (DV or IMX). The ame i the Tape ID field of the sequece is used as the ame for the file created o the FTP server durig a playback. To playback a sequece to a FTP server: 1. Make sure the FTP server is properly coected ad cofigured; see the documetatio that came with your server. 2. Make sure the TrasferMaager Server with Supplemetal FTP Services settig was selected as the istallatio type durig the istallatio of the TrasferMaager server applicatio. See Istallig the TrasferMaager Server Software o page 36. 3. Make sure the TrasferMaager server is cofigured with the FTP server ad FTP playback device. Avid has writte its ow itegratio to the DHM API for the Soy e-vtr ad XDCAM deck devices. The itegratio supports MXF files by rewrappig them i either OMF (OMF workgroup) or AAF (MXF workgroup) as they are brought ito Avid Uity shared storage through the TrasferMaager server. The itegratio supports IMX 30, 40, 50, ad DVCAM i PAL ad NTSC. Ulike other DHM implemetatios, this does ot eable users to Sed to Playback, which would have allowed iitiatig requests from the editor that was writig to the decks. Workig with Rudows Workig with Rudows I a broadcast eviromet, you ca eable the TrasferMaager schedulig feature to allow iteractio with the Newsroom Computer System (NRCS). You ca select the files to sed to playback, ad the schedule list from the NRCS determies the order i which the files are played back. To use the TrasferMaager with rudows: 1. O your TrasferMaager server computer, click the Start butto, ad select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio. The TrasferMaager Server Cofiguratio widow opes. 2. I the Playlist Iformatio area, select Use Newsroom rudows to schedule trasfers. 3. Type the computer ame of the Newsroom Server. 4. Type the user ame ad password. 5. If you kow the ame of the schedule file, type it i the Schedule File Name text box. The schedule file specifies which rudows to use at which time. See Creatig a Rudow Schedule File o page 44. 6. Click Save. 7. Restart the TrasferMaager server. Click the Start butto, ad select Programs > Avid > TrasferMaager Server. (Ay time the cofiguratio iformatio chages, you must restart the server.) 8. O your Avid editig system, ope the bi that cotais the sequeces you wat to sed. 9. Select the sequeces. 10. Select Trasfer > Sed To Playback. 11. Select the available playback device to which you wat to sed the sequece. The Sed to Playback dialog box opes. 12. Click OK. The sequeces play back based upo the order i which they appear i the NRCS rudow list. If you set oe of the sequeces to high priority by clickig the circle i the PWT colum ext to the sequece, that sequece has priority over the rudow list. 43
Creatig a Rudow Schedule File A rudow schedule file tells the TrasferMaager server which rudow to schedule at what time. The format is the time to start moitorig the rudow followed by the ame of the rudow. Read the ReadMe file for importat iformatio about the TrasferMaager, the retur to the istallatio froted widow. 3. Click Istall Products. 4. Click Istall TrasferMaager Cliet. 5. I the Welcome widow, click Next. 6. Click the applicable coutry, ad click Next. 7. Click Yes to accept the licese agreemet. 8. At the Select the Istallatio dialog box, select TrasferMaager Cliet o MediaMaager Server, ad click Next. 9. Click Next to accept the locatio for the applicatio. A message box opes. 10. Click Yes to ope the TrasferMaager Cliet Cofiguratio tool. This tool allows you to moitor the TrasferMaager servers i the workgroup. 45
