The bus garatees good immuity to electromagetic disturbaces, usig high electrical sigal levels ad medium commuicatio speed; it etails the parallel coectio of all uits ad the simultaeous use of busways ad cables with the additioal advtage of coectig ad discoectig uits without havig to close the commuicatio loop. The bus etails a MASTER-SLAVE type commuicatio with oly oe active iterface for each sectio of the serial lie. If the applicatio fids a umber of uits exceedig the umber the active output is desiged for, it is possible to use - as a sigal repeator. The coectio to the cotrollig device may be obtaied via either the EIA- iterface or the EIA- iterface (which ca be selected via jumper), with HALF DUPLEX commuicatio ad without hardware cotrol sigals. The sigal to the bus is take at the active output. The - is equipped with coectio for DIN guide to be istalled i electrical paels, located ear the master cotroller or o the equipmet. All coectios are performed usig rapid extractio coectors which make cablig ad maiteace operatios easier. The - has two LEDS to idicate the data flow sese o the serial lie: oe led lits whe the iterface is trasmittig, whereas the secod oe lits whe the iterface is receivig. MASTER MODE The - works as a master whe it receives the serial sigal from the cotrollig device ad trasmits it to the bus via the active output. The coectio to the cotroller occurs via the EIA-RS- or EIA- iterfaces. The use of oe or the other depeds o the port available o the supervisor or the distace betwee the supervisor ad the serial iterface. I both cases, the serial sigal may ot be coected to more tha oe - (iput). INTERFACE EIA- EIA- MAX. DISTANCE 5 mt.000 mt The serial iterface is provided with the EIA- active port, the selectio of EIA- is obtaied by switchig the positio of the "" jumper. BEFORE SELECTING EIA- MAKE SURE THE - IS NOT POWERED. REPEATOR MODE: The - works as a repeator whe it receives the sigal from a - master ad trasmits it to aother sectio of the bus via the active output. The sigal comig from the master serial iterface must be coected i the passive iput respectig its polarity, the shut from the master bus must be take directly at the output of the master iterface. If several repeators are used, they will all be shut from the - master: each repeator itroduces little distortios i the sigal which, if i cascade coectio, may result i the bus ot workig. Whe the - is used as a repeator it is ot possible to coect ay device to the EIA- ad EIA- commuicatios ports. /8

3 Bulleti E708 rev0 7/06/0 COMMUNICATION SPEED: The choice of the commuicatio speed depeds o defferet elemets: the umber of coected uits, the type of applicatio, the foresee cablig, ad the evirometal factors which may disturb the data flow with more evidet effects at high speed. The - guaratees differet commuicatio speed, without havig to make ay chage or settig. It is importat to set the cotroller ad peripheral uits at the same speed. The umber of uits which ca be coected to the active output varies depedig o the commuicatio speed used ad applicatio. Below is a table specifyig the permitted limits: Commuicatio speed - Master with o shut to repeator 4800 Baud Baud 60 - Master with shut to repeator 50 - repeator With busway 70 Permitted Permitted --S --S is the serial iterface with oly oe active output. The equipmet must be istalled by skilled persoel, i compliace with the regulatios i force at the time ad i the place of istallatio. The serial iterface must be placed ito electrical paels mouted o DIN guide. It must be easy to reach ad good vetilatio must be esured. Follow all techical specificatios ad respect them, i particular the phase-eutral polarity, whe makig electric coectios. Termials for electrical coectios are screw-termials ad may accept coductors havig a 0.5 to.5 mm² sectio. The commuicatio lie must be separated from the supply lies, egie cotrol (iverters) ad etwork voltage. Neither multipolar or shielded cables must be used. I commuicatio lies, either cables or uipolar cables, featurig a sectio of over 0.5 mm² must be used. A alterative to uipolar cables ad cables is represeted by busway systems, bearig i mid that the leght betwee the busway ad the device should ot exceed m, both for the commuicatio ad the supply lies. The legth of the commuicatio lies must ot exceed the specified limit; if the cotroller is far away from the equipmet, we advise - beig positioed ear the furace. A protectio fuse o the active lie should be istalled to avoid prologed short-circuits from damagig the card. I case use a rapid blow fuse (). O each bus sectio it is oly possible to coect oe active - coected to the master cotroller. If a umber of slave uits are istalled which exceeds the admitted umber, the use of sigal repeators is ecessary. The iversio of polarity o oe or several peripheral equipmets causes the malfuctioig of the whole bus ad may be discovered because the LED lits. The same situatio occurs whe a short-circuit occurs o the commuicatio lie. This problem must be solved because if it persists it causes the - iterface to break. 7/8

As soo as the iterface is powered it is advisable to make sure that the LED is ot lit; should the LED be lit it is advisable to discoect the active output ad look for the reaso of the aomaly o the bus. The coectio of equipmets to the bus whe workig could cause a short iterruptio i the commuicatio. If the - does ot work properly it must be set back to the factory for repair. No modificatios or repair performed by other people are admitted.
