P a g e 1 Student ipad User and Setup Guide Clayton Public School District is excited to provide you with an ipad. Please complete the following steps to prepare your device for proper use. Each student is required to have a personal Apple ID as well as enable icloud, Find My ipad, and icloud backup. This guide will assist in enabling these features properly. Additionally, each student must download the apps listed in this guide and follow the instructions to enroll their device in our Mobile Device Manager (Meraki). P a g e 2 Initial ipad Setup When you turn on your new ipad for the first time, you will need to step through a setup process. 1. Slide to start, choose English and United Sates. 2. Choose a Wi-Fi Network: If you are setting up your ipad on Clayton s campus, select the CPS-Student network. If you are setting up on your ipad on your home wireless network, select your network name, enter your network s password and continue to step 5. 3. Once you connect to the CPS-Student network, you will receive a splash page asking you to log in. Log in with your Clayton Network Username (FirstName.LastName) and Password. This is the same username/password you would use to log into a district computer. Your student email address is NOT your username.
P a g e 3 4. Once you click Sign-In, continue on. 5. Select Enable Location Services. 6. Select Setup Up as New ipad. 7. Press Next for the Configuration ( Clayton BOE will automatically configure your ipad ) a. If you receive an error stating The configuration for your ipad could not be downloaded, please wait a few minutes, press back, and try again. This may take a few attempts. 8. Once the configuration completes, you can sign in with an existing Apple ID or create a new one. a. If you have a personal Apple ID already, we recommend using that ID. If you do not have one, please step though the setup process to create an Apple ID. b. Note: We do not have the ability to reset or locate lost Apple ID passwords. If you have any issues with your Apple ID, you must contact Apple directly, or reset your password at www.iforgot.apple.com. 9. Once you sign in or create an Apple ID, create your four-digit passcode. 10. Select Use Siri. 11. Select Get Started.
P a g e 4 REQUIRED: Turning on icloud, Find My ipad, and icloud Backup For security purposes, all student devices must have icloud, Find My ipad, and icloud Backup enabled. Turning on icloud and Set up Find My ipad 1. On your device s Home screen, tap Settings, then tap icloud. If you re asked to sign in, enter your Apple ID, or if you don t have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID, then follow the instructions that appear.
2. Once you log in, if you receive the prompt Allow icloud to Use the Location of Your ipad? press OK. P a g e 5 3. Verify/turn on Find My ipad and when asked to confirm you want this option, tap Allow. Turning on icloud Backup 1. On your device s Home screen, tap Settings, then tap icloud. Your account should still be signed in from the previous step, but if not, sign in with your Apple ID.
P a g e 6 2. Select the Storage & Backup category and turn icloud Backup On. 3. Your device and data will now be automatically backed up to icloud when connected to wifi and is charging.
P a g e 7 Required ipad Apps to Download Utilizing your newly created or existing personal Apple ID, please connect your ipad to the internet and open the App Store. When you open the App Store for the first time, you will be prompted to download all Apple Apps. Please Download All. In addition to the free Apple Apps, please search for and download the following apps to your device. 1. Notability 2. Google Earth 3. Google Drive 4. Google Sheets 5. Google Docs 6. Scan QR code and Barcode Reader 7. Flashcard+ 8. Quizlet 9. CNN 10. Sticky Beautiful Notebooks for ipad and iphone 11. Sketchpad Explorer
P a g e 8 REQUIRED: Enrolling your Device in Meraki Systems Manager In order to download Apps that the district purchased for you, you must have your device enrolled in our management software. Please complete the following steps to enroll your device. 1. Open the Apple App store and search for Meraki Systems Manager. 2. Download and install Meraki Systems Manager. You may need to sign in or enter your password.
P a g e 9 3. Once the App is download, please click Open, press OK to allow push notifications, and click OK for the enrollment. 4. Once you are on the enrollment screen, enter 014-505-4567 and press Enroll.
P a g e 10 5. You ipad will switch over to settings. Please click OK to allow the profile installation, then click Install. Click Install Now. Click Install once again. Once the profile is installed, press Done. 6. Once the profile is successfully installed, your ipad will switch back to the Meraki App. Click OK to allow Meraki MDM to use your location. 7. Once that is completed, you will see a tab at the bottom of the app called Managed Apps. This is where you will be able to download Apps that the district purchased for you.
