Software Announcement October 24, 2000 IBM Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V2.2 Enhanced Overview IBM Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V2.2 has been enhanced with an optional Web Enablement Kit and support for Oracle 8i. The Web Enablement Kit allows people to use an industry-standard Web browser, supported on many industry-standard Web Application Servers, to access data stored in an OnDemand system. The IBM Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit feature is a collection containing a CGI program, Java Servlet, AFP plug-in, Image plug-in, Line Data Java applet, and AFP2HTML Java applet. Users may search through the folders and applications archived into the Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms server, and select documents or sections of reports for browser viewing with ease. Also included is the option for the use of either the IBM AFP plug-in or server-based transforms, providing you the flexibility to implement viewing options that meet your performance and functional needs. In addition, Concurrent User and Gateway Access licensing, available through the Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V2.2 product, may now be ordered to license access to one Content Manager OnDemand server across any of the following platforms: Windows NT, Windows 2000, AIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and OS/390. For details on the functions of IBM Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms V2.2, refer to: Software Announcement 200-043, dated March 14, 2000 Software Announcement 299-144, dated June 15, 1999 Key Prerequisites The exact configuration that you need to support your OnDemand server depends on the volume of data being managed and the number of concurrent users. OnDemand for AIX, Windows NT, Windows 2000, HP-UX, and Sun Solaris uses a client/server architecture. Clients run under OS/2, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 95, and Windows 98. There are two kinds of servers: A library server contains indexes and control information, runs under AIX, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Sun Solaris, and HP-UX, and requires DB2 (included), Oracle 8i, or Microsoft SQL server. An object server contains the archived data, runs under AIX, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Sun Solaris, and HP-UX, and can optionally use Tivoli Storage Manager. Tivoli is included. For more detailed description of the hardware and software prerequisites refer to the Hardware Requirements and Software Requirements sections in this announcement. Planned Availability Date October 27, 2000 At a Glance IBM Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms is an Enterprise Report Management (COLD) system that provides an alternative to microfiche and hardcopy storage and retrieval. OnDemand can: Reduce costs by eliminating paper and microfiche Enhance customer care with rapid online access to information such as statements and invoices Enhancements A new OnDemand Web Enablement Kit feature offers Web access. Description IBM Content Manager OnDemand continues to deliver industry-leading Enterprise Report Management, with high-volume capture of computer output, advanced client solutions for desktop and standard Web browsers, and automated storage management with advanced searching and report mining capabilities, while providing a platform for leading Electronic Document/Bill Presentment and Payment deployments. A new feature, Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit (ODWEK), provides searching, retrieval, and viewing of OnDemand data via the Web using industry-standard browsers. ODWEK replaces the OnDemand Internet Client, previously available only through service offerings. IBM Content Manager OnDemand captures print files generated by business applications on enterprise server computers and other systems. The files are downloaded from MVS System/390, OS/390, or other systems to the OnDemand servers, where the files are indexed and loaded automatically. IBM Content Manager OnDemand works with the PSF/MVS download feature to seamlessly download documents from the MVS/JES spool to an OnDemand machine running the IBM Content Manager OnDemand server. Once documents are indexed and stored, users can easily search, retrieve, view, print, e-mail, and fax documents using the IBM Content Manager OnDemand client interface (available for Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 95 or 98, and OS/2) shipped with this product. IBM Content Manager OnDemand is Windows NT Backoffice certified and Windows 2000 ready. IBM Content Manager OnDemand V2.2 is an alternative to microfiche and hardcopy storage and retrieval. Its powerful client/server solution stores and retrieves large volumes of computer-generated documents, offering reduced paper costs, improved customer service, and better document control. IBM Content Manager OnDemand V2.2 includes a Windows-based GUI for system administration, and supports multiple document formats, including AFP, line data, PostScript, PDF, and image. Powerful search and view facilities are available, as well as the ability to define logical views of the information. Document security is also included in the product. IBM s DB2 Universal Database (UDB) Enterprise Edition or DB2 UDB Extended Enterprise Edition (EEE), Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle can be used to store index and configuration information, and Tivoli Storage Manager is used for hierarchical storage management. IBM Content Manager OnDemand is certified as Tivoli Ready. IBM Content Manager OnDemand works with the IBM Infoprint Manager solution to provide high-volume reprinting capabilities. Complementary service offerings extend the use of IBM Content Manager OnDemand. Xerox datastreams can be archived. Report distribution is further enhanced by enablement of the CD-ROM creation offering. Year 2000 This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, provided that all products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it. The service end date for this Year 2000 ready product is June 30, 2001. This program is EuroReady. Euro Currency For more information on the implications of the euro, visit the IBM euro Web site at: http://www.ibm.com/euro EuroReady Products: IBM considers an IBM product to be EuroReady if the product, when used in accordance with its associated documentation, is capable of correctly processing monetary data in the euro denomination and of respecting the euro currency formatting conventions (including the euro sign). This assumes that all other products (for example, hardware, software, and firmware) that are used with this product are also EuroReady. IBM hardware products that are EuroReady may or may not have an engraved euro sign key on their keyboards. Currently, EuroReady status applies primarily to IBM products specific to the EMU countries. Products that are not specific to these countries are deemed to be not ready for euro unless otherwise stated in the product s country-specific specifications. IBM Hardware Ready: IBM supplies certain IBM products that include third-party software (preloaded or not) and/or third-party attached hardware. In these instances IBM is not in a position to assert that these third-party products are, in themselves, EuroReady. Therefore, such IBM products will be designated as Hardware ready. EuroReady Solutions: IBM considers a solution to be EuroReady when the solution providers have: Analyzed the euro requirements, including the need to comply with relevant EC rules Built in appropriate function and can clearly demonstrate this by: Detailing euro-related requirements Describing how these will be implemented in the solution Declaring when the implementation will be generally available The euro capabilities of a EuroReady solution will be clearly identified as features of the solution specification as described in the contracts document.
