This Web application server provides deployment and management of: Java JSP technology XML applications Scope In addition to adding National Language Support for Windows NT and AIX, Server V3.0.1, Standard Edition contains the following functions previously included with Version 3.0: Combines server-side business applications and XML with Java for a comprehensive Web Application platform. Expands and enhances its server capabilities for applications built to the XML and JSP specification. Integrates and connects to enterprise applications and systems. Enables powerful interactions with: Enterprise databases Transaction systems Applications Focuses on extensive performance, scaling, and security control improvements to its premium implementation of a XML, Servlet, and JSP server. A strong cross-platform, Java-based Web application platform supports deployment of e-business applications and components for transactions, enterprise system access, and dynamic content generation, including: JavaBeans components Java servlets JSP technology XML Includes restricted usage of technology from DB2 Universal Database V5.2 Fixpak 10. For a more robust function, Server V3.0.1, Standard Edition also supports DB2 Universal Database V6.1 Fixpak 1. Customers wishing to upgrade to unrestricted usage of either may do so. For more information, refer to Software Announcement 299-274, dated September 21, 1999. XML Management integrates a host of new XML/XSL features previously included in V3.0 for sites to take advantage of the latest technology to define and share data, while allowing data to be separated from its presentation. These include: An XML parser utilizing the latest W3 XML 1.0, DOM 1.0, and SAX 1.0 recommendations W3 namespaces recommending a DTD library for local validation A new, enhanced XSL processor Included are tools that enable sites to tailor data to specific devices including initial support for the Wireless Markup Language. JSP Enhancements Full support is included for levels.91 and 1.0 of the JSP specification. Two additional tags, including a Query Tag for rapid building of a database connection and a Connection Tag for building and maintaining stateful connections will increase Web site builders productivity without having the team write code, but simply use tags similar to what they do to build a page in HTML today. Deployment Management The administrative client that helps create and deploy servlets, JSP, and JavaBeans components has been completely overhauled from versions prior to V3.0 to focus on ease-of-use and greater flexibility and control of the execution and monitoring of these e-business applications. Security Management Security controls and application-access protection were significantly enhanced with V3.0 and are also included in V3.0.1. The secure-access control lists can be established at a much more granular level than in versions prior to V3.0. Set up security at the user and group levels. Control and policies can be established for specific calls or methods within the application. Greater depth of control and protection is available within the server deployment environments. Support is also provided for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)-based user registries. Site Analysis The same package of site usage and analysis tools included with V3.0 is included with V3.0.1. Site analysis focuses on developing basic traffic measurement functions while allowing the user to gauge traffic volume (hits, visits), to identify traffic sources (domains, subdomains, referrers), and to manage site integrity (link verification, site conformance). These are the key features enabling the user to enhance and improve the Web site content and performance, making Web sites more: Enticing Informative Financially beneficial The server can transform the raw server log data into valuable information to be stored in the provided UDB DB2 database. The client provides administrative, visualizing, and report-generating functions. From the client, you can schedule analysis tasks to run at specific time and time intervals, as well as schedule generating and publishing of the results as static or dynamic HTML reports. Broadcast the progress status to the interested clients and display as appropriate and necessary. After analysis, you can generate customized reports or visualize the data immediately through the client. The system comes with many predefined ready-to-use reports samples. General features include: Detailed analysis of Web site content integrity, performance, and usage statistics Flexible client/server architecture supporting a team environment 299-341 -2-
