Captivating Movies! Getting Started with Captivate Welcome to Getting Started with Captivate. In this tutorial you will learn to import a PowerPoint file into a Captivate Project. Then you will prepare your project for audio recording. 1
When you open Captivate, you will see a start-up screen with several options Open Recent Projects, Record a New Movie, Begin Other Movie Types and some Training videos. For this tutorial, please select Import Movie option under Other Movie Types. 2
When the Import Project dialog opens, browse to the PowerPoint file and select it. You should see your file name and path in the Select a Project to Insert field. Click Next button. 3
The next screen, Import Project wizard screen two, should open. This screen is used to size your movie. Click Next to accept the Default Setting of six forty by four eighty. 4
Import Project wizard screen number 3 allows you to name your Captivate Project and to scroll through the slides to be imported. To remove unwanted slides, uncheck the green check mark in the upper right-hand corner of a slide. Leave all slides selected for now and just click Finish. 5
Click a slide, then click Audio to begin recording audio for each slide After the Import Wizard finishes, your screen should appear as this one. Click SAVE to save your project. You are now ready to begin recording audio for each slide. Simply select the slide and click the Audio Button along the top right-hand side of the Captivate Menu. Be sure to save your Captivate Project at intervals as you record your audio and edit the project. 6
Recording the Audio When you click the Audio Button, the Audio Dialog opens. Choose the Slide Notes option to view the narration Now click the record Button When you click the Audio Button, the Audio Recording Dialog opens. Choose the Slide Notes option to view the narration. Now you are ready to begin recording the narrative audio for this slide. 7
Microphone Check After you verify that your mic is working, click the OK button to begin recording The first time you start an audio recording, the Check Microphone dialog will open to verify your mic is working properly. Check the OK button when complete to begin recording your narration. 8
Click the Record Button again and the Recording will begin. Note the volume level indicator. Click the Record Button to begin recording. Click the Stop button to end recording. 9
Editing Your Recording Click the Edit Button to edit the audio. You may want to shorten the length, cut out extraneous noises or clip out dead time High light the area to remove and click the Scissors button Click OK when through Click the Edit Button to edit the audio. When you are through with your sound edits, click the OK button. 10
Now Click OK to return to the Project Editor and select the next screen to add audio Click OK to return to Captivate Project Editor Now click OK to return to the Project Editor and select the next slide to add audio 11
Publishing to HTML When you have completed adding and editing your Audio, save your project. Choose File > 12

Load and Link into BlackBoard Refer to the File & Content Management document for instructions on uploading and linking the HTML file Drag and Drop the HTML and SWF files into Blackboard folder Log into Blackboard. In Build Mode, go to the File Manager and choose Open as WebDAV Folder under the action icon Right-Click Windows Start, and select Explore option In Windows Explorer, browse to your Captivate Project files (hint: resize the two explorer windows to see both on the screen) Drag-n-Drop them into Blackboard folder. Close the two Explorer windows when finishe copying files over to Blackboard Be sure to choose BOTH the HTML and Flash Shockwave files 15
Return to the Home Page (Course Content) and link the new HTML file to it Return to the Course Home Page and link the new HTML movie on it. In Build Tab, choose ADD FILE, BROWSE for FILES In the Content Browser Dialog, Make sure CLas Files tab is selected. Scroll down to the HTML Captivate Movie file and select the box beside it. Click OK 16
