The Softek Storage Manager Installation Guide is designed system and network administrators and managers, who want to use Fujitsu Softek Storage Manager to manage their storage resources performance. This chapter is intended as a guide to installing and configuring Softek Storage Manager on Windows. Softek Storage Manger is protected by a Software Licence. In order to operate legally purchased versions of Softek Storage Manager, you must first register your product with Fujitsu Softek, using the procedures outlined in Chapter 3: Registering Licenses. Softek Storage Manager will not work until you do so.! CAUTION: A temporary Software Licence has been installed by your Fujitsu Softek representative. This Software Licence is used only to launch the registration process. It is not an actual Software license. Installation Requirements The following are the minimum requirements in order to install Softek Storage Manager: Storage Manager Server Hardware Requirements 1 GHz Processor 40 GB Hard Disk, NTFS format 1 GB RAM SVGA (1024 x 768) Accelerated 100Mb NIC Card Single processor softek.fujitsu.com Chapter 1 Installation Requirements! CAUTION: In general, installing a Softek Storage Manager Server, with an Agent, requires approximately 100 MB of free space. During some installations, a message may appear, warning you that you are running out of space. Ensure that you have the required 100 MB before continuing. NOTE Fujitsu Softek strongly recommends that you install ECC memory on the Softek Storage Manager Server. Approximately, 1 GB of memory is needed. Software Requirements Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Service Pack 2 (English version) Microsoft MS SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 2. Internet browser, either Internet Explorer 5.5+ or Netscape 6.0+ SOFTEK Chapter 1 Installing Softek Storage Manager NOTE Recommendations Dedicated server for Softek Storage Manager Support for up to ten servers Single configuration, single user Windows Agent Software Requirements Windows 2000 Server or Client, with Service Pac k 2, or Windows NT v4.0 with Service Pack 6a Solaris Agent Software Requirements Sun Solaris v2.7 or 2.8 HP-UX Agent Software Requirements It is recommended that all previous versions of MS-SQL Server (for example, 6.5, 7.0) be removed from your computer before installing the newer versions. HP-UX v11 or v11i AIX Agent Software Requirements AIX v4.3.3 Installing Softek Storage Manager The following section describes how to install Softek Storage Manager from the installation CD. " To install Softek Storage Manager: 1. Launch the Softek Storage Manager InstallShield Wizard by inserting the Softek Storage Manager CD into your CD-ROM. The Softek Storage Manager CD will automatically begin the installation process. Wait a few moments while the InstallShield wizard prepares the installation process. The Welcome Screen appears. Welcome Screen Chapter 1 Installing Softek Storage Manager softek.fujitsu.com 2. The Choose Destination Location Screen appears. If you would like to install Softek Storage Manager in a location other than the default option, click on the Browse button. Otherwise, click Next. NOTE No matter what location you decide to install Softek Storage Manager in, a directory entitled Space Manager will be appended onto your directory path. SOFTEK 3. The Select Features Screen appears. Use this screen to select the Softek Storage Manager components you wish to install on this machine. You may install the Softek Storage Manager Server, or Agent, or both. Click Next. NOTE It is recommended that you install the Softek Storage Manager Server first. It is also recommended that you have a server dedicated to just Softek Storage Manager. Select Features Screen Chapter 1 Installing Softek Storage Manager 4. If you selected Softek Storage Manager Server in the previous step, the Server Configuration Screen appears. This screen allows you to configure the e-mail alerts options available in Softek Storage Manager. Fill in the following fields and click Next. - The E-Mail Sender field identifies Softek Storage Manager as the source of the alert message. The name you enter here will be the name appearing in the From section of the e-mail alert. - The SMTP Server of Sender field identifies the name or IP address of the server that handles your network s e-mail. - The Console Reports URL field provides the HTML address needed for displaying Softek Storage Manage reports, and is in the following format: http://<network Computer Name>/Softek_Storage_Manager/index.asp 6 LICENSED MATERIAL - PROPERTY OF FUJITSU SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION

Server Configuration Screen softek.fujitsu.com 5. If you selected Agent in the Select Features Screen, the Agent Configuration Screen appears. Enter in the name of the Softek Storage Manager Server. Click Next. If you also selected Server in the Agent Configuration Screen, the Storage Manager Server name will already be entered. Agent Configuration Screen Chapter 1 Installing Softek Storage Manager 6. The Start Copying Files Screen appears. Verify that all the information displayed in this screen is correct, and click Next. Start Copying Files Screen Chapter 1 Installing Softek Storage Manager SOFTEK 7. The Setup Status Screen appears. Softek Storage Manager will begin installing the selected components on your machine. At any time you may click Cancel to end the installation process. If you do so, the selected components will not be installed. Setup Status Screen 8. When the selected components are installed, the InstallShield Wizard Complete Screen appears. Click Finish. You will be asked whether or not you wish to reboot your machine. Data Collector begin collecting Storage information. CAUTION: Please execute the following commands in Modificating Softek Storage Manager after Installing Softek Storage Manager. Open up a command prompt and go to the directory. inetpub\wwwroot\softek_storage_manager\adminscripts Chapter 1 Modificating Softek Storage Manager 2. Then type the following command from the prompt. cscript mkvirtdir.vbs -c localhost -w Default Web Site -v Softek_Storage_Manager, <inetpubdrive>:\inetpub\wwwroot\softek_storage_manager, Softek_Storage_Manage r 3. Go to the directory. inetpub\wwwroot\softek_storage_manager\appdictionary 4. Enter the command AppDictionary 5. Open Internet Service Manager and restart IIS. SOFTEK NetWorker is a product that allows for the backing up and recovery of data across your entire network. In order to ensure that Softek Storage Manager s archiving, and archive deleting commands work properly, you must now configure your NetWorker server and NetWorker Clients. Doing so allows for the necessary communication between Softek Storage Manager Agents, NetWorker Clients, and the server machines for both Softek Storage Manager, and NetWorker. There are two procedures that must be followed to configure NetWorker properly: 1. Mounting and configuring NetWorker devices 2. Configuring NetWorker Clients Chapter 1 Configuring NetWorker " To mount and configure a NetWorker device: 1. Navigate to your NetWorker Main Window. Typically, this can be found by clicking Start>Programs>NetWorker Group>NetWorker Administrator. NetWorker Main Window 2. Pools Screen softek.fujitsu.com 3. Right-click Pools to bring up the Pools Context Menu, and then click Create. 4. In the Create Pools dialog box, select Archive in the Pool Type field. Configure the rest of the dialog. Chapter 1 Configuring NetWorker Create Pool 5. Click OK. You must now configure your NetWorker Clients. " To configure NetWorker Clients: 1. NetWorker Main Window Chapter 1 Configuring NetWorker SOFTEK 2. The NetWorker Clients Screen appears. Select a client machine that has a Softek Storage Manager Agent installed on it. NetWorker Clients Screen 3. Select the Preferences tab, to bring up the Preferences Dialog Box. - Ensure that the Archived services field is Enabled. - Ensure that Administrators is in the Archive user List. This function will not work if Administrators is not one of the names entered in this field. NOTE If you are using Solaris 7, before installing the agent, the Kernel patches 107544-03 and 106541-19 must be installed. " To install a UNIX Agent on Solaris: 1. In order to operate legally purchased versions of Softek Storage Manager, you must first register your product with Fujitsu Softek, using the procedures outlined in this chapter.
