Introduction This guide provides the instructions for installing Procomm Plus and configuring it for FASPAC. This is a simple procedure, described in the following pages: 1. Install Procomm Plus. 2. Configure Procomm Plus for Direct Connect or Modem Connect. 3. At a later time, create a shortcut icon for Procomm Plus on your Windows desktop. System Requirements A PC with Windows 95, 98, or NT A CD-ROM drive Procomm Plus 95 33 MB free disk space to install Procomm Plus For Direct Connect, an RJ45 Category 5 cable from the server is connected to your PC s COM1 or COM2 port with a db9 connector (you will need to know the COM port during installation) For Modem Connect, a modem is installed and configured on your PC 3
Install Procomm Plus Before you install Procomm Plus, close all open Windows applications (such as Word or Excel). Then follow these steps. 1. Insert the Procomm Plus CD in your CD-ROM drive and close the drive door. 2. After several seconds, the Procomm Plus Install Wizard runs automatically. If the Wizard does not run automatically, follow these steps: a) On your Windows desktop, double-click My Computers. b) Double-click the CD drive icon, similar to this example. c) Double-click Setup or Setup.exe. The Procomm Plus Install Wizard runs. 3. In the Welcome window, click Next. 4. In the Software License Agreement window, click Yes. 4
5. In the User Information window, type your Name, Company, and Serial Number (from the registration card). Then click Next. 6. In the Choose Destination Location window, click Next. 7. In the Setup Type window, click Full. 5
8. In the Select Program Folder window, click Next. 9. In the Select File Associations, click Next. 10. The Install Wizard installs the Procomm Plus files in the C:\Program Files\Procomm Plus folder. 11. After the software has been installed, the Restart Windows dialog box is displayed. Click OK to restart Windows. 6
12. After Windows restarts, Procomm Plus runs. In the Welcome window, click Next. 13. In the User Information window, enter your Name, Company Name, Voice Phone Number, Fax Number, and Serial Number. In the Fax Station ID, enter an identification that you want to be printed on faxes (such as your company name or your name). Then click Next. 7
14. In the Location Information window, enter your area code and an outside line code, if applicable. Then click Close. 15. In the Configure Modems window, your modem will be listed. Click it and then click Next. 16. In the Preparing window, click Data Terminal Mode. 8
17. Procomm Plus runs and displays a Readme information window. Click No. 18. In the Electronic Registration window, click No. 9
19. In the Connecting to the Internet window, click Modem and then click Next. 20. In the Internet Mail window, click No and then click Next. 21. Click Next in any remaining windows until the Configuration Complete window is displayed. Then click Finish. 10
22. If you receive the Helpful Hints window, clear the Display at Startup check box and then click OK. Now configure Procomm for Direct Connect or Modem Connect. 11
Configure Procomm For both Direct Connect and Modem Connect, follow these steps. 1. Place the 3½-inch disk labeled WPDS.KBD in the floppy drive A of your computer. 2. In the Procomm window, click Options > System Options > Modem Connection. 3. In the Setup window, click the Data tab. 12
4. Click the drop down arrow in the Current Terminal list box and then click VT-320. 5. Click Edit Keyboard File. 6. In the Keyboard Editor window, click Open. 13
7. In the Open Keyboard File dialog box, click the drop down arrow in the Look in list box and then click Floppy (A:). 8. Click wpds.kbd and then click Open. 9. When the Keyboard Editor window is redisplayed, click Save As. 10. In the Save As dialog box, click Save. 14
11. When the Keyboard Editor window is redisplayed, click OK. 12. When the Setup window is redisplayed, click Advanced. 13. In the Advanced dialog box, clear the 8 bit mode check box and then click OK. 14. When the Setup window is redisplayed, click OK to close it. Now finish the configuration by specifying Direct Connect or Modem Connect. 15
Configure for Direct Connect In the bottom left corner of the Procomm Plus window, click direct connect-none. From the list of ports, click direct connect-com1 or direct connect-com2, depending on the port to which the RJ45 cable is connected. A terminal session is started and you can sign on to FASPAC. Configure for Modem Connect In the Procomm Plus window, click Data > Modem Command Mode. 16
After OK is displayed on the screen, type atdt followed by a space and then type your modem phone number. The modem dials the number, starts the terminal session, and you can sign on to FASPAC. 17
Create a Shortcut Before you run Procomm Plus the next time, create a shortcut to it. Then you can run it from your Windows desktop instead of going through the Start > Programs menus. 1. Right-click in a blank area on your Windows desktop. 2. Click New > Shortcut. 3. In the Create Shortcut window, click Browse. 4. Click the drop down arrow in the Look In box at the top of the Browse window and then click (C:). 18
5. Double-click Program Files > Procomm Plus > programs > Pwd4.exe. The path is displayed in the Command line of the Create Shortcut window. 6. Click Next. 7. In the Select a Title window, type Procomm Plus in the Name box and then click Finish. 19
Support and Services This section describes the warranty and support services provided for Procomm Plus. FASPAC terminal emulator terms and conditions also apply. Scope The Procomm Plus software product is installed on a customer s personal computer. Operation is warranted for use with FASPAC and Microsoft Windows as specified below. Training Obtained from other third parties as needed. Faspac Systems, Inc. does not provide training for Procomm or Windows. Support System integration Faspac support is limited to setting up the customer s computer environment for use of Procomm Plus as a FASPAC terminal emulator. Fees Assistance beyond the initial installation is provided as needed. Services are billed on a time and expense basis. Limitations Support services do not include upgrades or new versions of operating systems that may be required for Procomm Plus installation or operation. Future updates and enhancements of Procomm Plus software product are purchased separately. Faspac Systems, Inc. is not responsible for defects and limitations in the Procomm Plus software product. Diagnosis and repair of such problems is the responsibility of the customer and Quarterdeck Corporation. Implementation is warranted for use with UNIX-based FASPAC host systems and the following PC software combinations: Version 3 with Windows 3.11 or Windows 95 Version 4 with Windows 95 only 20
