5 Obtaining Your EPCS Token: A doctor using RHS VISUAL software must purchase from IdenTrust a Hard Token which is needed whenever a controlled substance is prescribed. There are two types of Tokens. You will need to buy one of the following: Smart Card or USB Token
6 Card and Reader Token & Extension
7 Smart Card vs. USB Token Smart Card Advantage: Similar in size to a credit card and fits in your wallet. Disadvantage: Requires a card reader attached to your PC. USB Token Advantage: Does not require a card reader. Advantage: Fits on your keychain. Disadvantage: Does not fit in your wallet.
8 Using your Token on different PCs As a physician you may need to approve orders at the facility and also at home or on-the-go. With your IdenTrust certificate you are not limited to one computer only. Because your certificate resides in your password protected token, not on your computer, it is easy to set up multiple computers. Included with your hardware is the SafeNet authentication client software, simply install the SafeNet software on any computer you may need to use, then when you are ready, plug your token in and go about your work. If you order the card make sure you also order a card reader for your home computer or laptop. Once you are registered, additional card readers can be ordered directly from IdenTrust by calling 800-748-5360.
