1. Welcome to Kinetica Welcome to Kinetica, a powerful, industry-standard pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) application for non-compartmental, standard compartmental and population pharmacokinetic analyses, bioequivalence, graphing and formatting. With an intuitive point-and-click graphical interface, Kinetica facilitates data analysis and reporting in a structured yet flexible, easy-to-automate environment. This Kinetica Installation Guide is for administrators who are responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Kinetica servers and/or clients. Inside you ll find: System hardware and software requirements Necessary configuration settings Procedures for installing Kinetica Online Technical Support information Note Kinetica for Windows cannot co-exist on a workstation with any previous versions of Kinetica. Before starting the installation process, you must remove any previous versions of Kinetica through the uninstall procedure. The format of Kinetica Database files (.kdb extension) changed in version 5.0. All *.kdb files can be opened with Kinetica 5.0 or 5.1. However, files saved in Kinetica 5.0 and 5.1 can only be read by Kinetica versions 5.0 and later. We recommend backing up your existing.kdb files before opening them with Kinetica 5.1. Welcome to Kinetica Conventions The following terms, text formats, and symbols are used throughout the printed documentation. Convention Bold Italic UPPERCASE Monospace Meaning Indicates windows, buttons, column headings, command-line commands and options, icons, dialog box titles, lists, menu names, tabs, menu commands, and user input. Indicates a placeholder for information that you must provide. For instance, if a procedure asks you to type filename, you must type the actual name of a file. Italic also indicates new terms and the titles of books, disks, and CDs. Represents keyboard keys (e.g., CTRL, ENTER, F2). Represents text file contents and text displayed at the command prompt. 2 Kinetica Installation Guide Thermo Fisher Scientific

Welcome to Kinetica Kinetica Documentation In addition to this installation guide, the Kinetica package also contains the following documentation: The Kinetica User Guide is a comprehensive manual with full descriptions of the features and functions of Kinetica, including many worked examples. The Kinetica Basic Reference Guide catalogs the Kineticaspecific scripting language similar to Microsoft s Visual Basic that you may use for writing your own Kinetica methods. If you select a personal TM file from your license disk, the following screen appears: Figure 2-5. License Transfer Confirmation Dialog Thermo Fisher Scientific Kinetica Installation Guide 7

Stand-Alone Installation Important The successful file transfer message indicates that a copy of the license file has been created in the Kinetica\Program directory. Once Kinetica is installed, ensure that the disk containing your license file is stored in a secure place. Your company will be held responsible for any copyright infringement that may occur if this file is reproduced or distributed either outside your company or on more computers than stipulated in your license agreement. 10. Click Finish to conclude the InstallShield Wizard. 11. Right-click on the Start menu and select Explore. Locate the license folder in the Kinetica Program directory. Right-click on this folder and select Properties. Select the Security tab. Verify that all users of this computer have read-write permissions. If they do not, assign them at this time. 12. Restart the workstation. 13. Click on the Start menu. Kinetica appears under the Programs menu. 14. Click on the Kinetica menu option to start the application. 8 Kinetica Installation Guide Thermo Fisher Scientific

3. Network Installation Kinetica can be installed on a network drive and function as a file service for client workstations mapped to the network drive. Some configuration is required for a Kinetica network installation on a mapped network drive. The workstation that is used for installation will operate as a fully functional client workstation. If Kinetica is removed from this workstation using the uninstall utility, the application files will be removed from the mapped network drive. If the mapped drive is disconnected at any time, you will need to re-install Kinetica. The system administrator who has read-write access to the network drive where the applications files will be installed must create two shared directories: One shared directory must have read-only privileges. The application files will reside in this directory. For example, X:\Kinetica (X: = mapped drive letter) The other shared directory must have read-write privileges. The run-time license file will reside in this directory. For example, X:\License\Kinetica (X: = mapped drive letter) Note The mapped drive letter MUST be the same as the drive letter in the Err.kdr file. The procedure for creating the Err.kdr file is described in the section below, Creating the Err.kdr File. In addition, the mapped drive letter MUST be the same on ALL workstations. Kinetica is installed to the selected directory. 8. After installation, the License file installation dialog appears. Figure 3-4. License File Installation Dialog 9. Do one of the following: Click the top button to select a personal TM file from a license disk. If you choose this option, Setup will look for your personalized Kinetica license file (KXXXXXX.tm) and install it automatically. Click the bottom button to install an unlicensed version of Kinetica in Demonstration Mode. Print, save, and export functions are only available for 30 days in Demonstration Mode. If you select a personal TM file from your license disk, the following screen appears: Figure 3-5. License Transfer Confirmation Dialog 12 Kinetica Installation Guide Thermo Fisher Scientific

Network Installation Note The successful file transfer message indicates that a copy of the license file has been made in the Kinetica\Program directory. 11. Restart the workstation. Note Kinetica licensed user access requires that the license file (KXXXXXX.tm) be linked to a run-time license file (Err12.ktx). The run-time license file is created during the installation of Kinetica in X:\Kinetica\Program (X: = mapped drive letter). 12. Move the run-time license file (Err12.ktx) from X:\Kinetica\Program\License to the read-write directory X:\License\Kinetica. Thermo Fisher Scientific Kinetica Installation Guide 13

Network Installation Creating the Err.kdr File To create the Err.kdr file: 1. Select Programs from the Start menu. 2. Select Accessories and then select Notepad. Notepad opens an Untitled document. 3. In the Untitled document, enter the path name for the Kinetica run-time license file, Err12.ktx. For example, X:\License\Kinetica. (X:= the mapped drive letter) 4. Select the File menu Save As option to access the Save As dialog. 5. Enter X:\Kinetica\Program in the Save field to ensure that the new file is saved in the correct location. 6. Enter Err.kdr in the filename field. 7. Exit Notepad. 8. Open X:\Kinetica\Program\err.kdr using Notepad to confirm that the file contains the correct directory path for the Kinetica license file (e.g. X:\License\Kinetica). Note When you save the Err.kdr file using Notepad, if the extension.txt is appended to the filename (so that the filename appears as Err.kdr.txt) you MUST rename the file to Err.kdr. To rename the file, locate it using Windows Explorer, right mouse click on the filename, select the option Rename, and type in the new filename, Err.kdr. 14 Kinetica Installation Guide Thermo Fisher Scientific

Network Installation Installing a Stand- Alone from the Server The installation of Kinetica from a mapped network drive to a local workstation requires approximately five megabytes of disk space on the local workstation. Each client workstation must be mapped successfully to the readonly directory to access the application files, and mapped successfully to the read-write directory where the run-time license file resides. Please select the option to reconnect at logon when mapping these two-shared areas to each client workstation. It is strongly recommended that the same mapping designations (drive names) be used for all clients mapped to the read-only directory where the application files reside, and the read-write directory where the run-time license file resides. After the run-time license file configuration has been completed, the Kinetica Client installation can continue. Note If an automated application deployment tool is used to install the Kinetica client version, please contact Thermo Fisher Scientific before attempting a package build (contact information is located at the front of this manual). After the network installation is successfully completed, the file Setup.exe file (the program that enables you to perform the client installation) can be found in X:\Kinetica\ClientSetup (X: =mapped drive letter) or on the CD. To perform the Kinetica client installation from the server: 1. Navigate to X:\Kinetica\ClientSetup, and then double-click on the Setup.exe file. 2. The InstallShield Wizard for Kinetica dialog launches with Choose Destination Location dialog, displaying the default path where the application will be installed.
