1. Quick Start This section is a quick start guide for setting up the Ubi system. For detailed descriptions and instructions, please refer to the rest of the document. For a first time user, a tutorial will be provided during installation of Ubi that guides the user through the setup process: Install Ubi Type in the activation code (received via email) when you run Ubi for the first time. Power up the Kinect sensor and connect it to a Windows 8 PC. Connect any projector to the PC. Position the Kinect to see the WHOLE projected display. Click the Calibrate button on and the system will calibrate automatically. You can interact with the projection display as though it is a touch screen. Depending on the mode, use your whole hand or the Ubi pen to interact with the display. Make sure that your body does not occlude the hand or pen movement from the view of the Kinect sensor. Unplug Kinect or quit Ubi when you are finished using it.
In order to turn the projected display interactive, you need to follow these steps. 1. Activate Ubi You should receive an email from Ubi with the download link and activation code when you purchase the software. The email will also specify on how many machines the activation code can be used to activate Ubi. You will be prompted to type in the activation code when you run Ubi for the first time. In order to enhance performance, Ubi will prompt you to disable right click during the installation process.
2. Connect the Kinect sensor Power up the Kinect sensor and connect it to a Windows 8 PC.
3. Launch Ubi Launch Ubi from Windows 8 desktop by pressing the Windows key and then type Ubi.
4. Position the Kinect sensor You should adjust the position and the view angle of the Kinect sensor to fit the whole screen into the Kinect Camera View, as shown below. The track bar next to the camera view can be used to adjust the view angle of the Kinect sensor. But remember to place the Kinect sensor horizontally on the table; otherwise the track bar will not function properly.
5. Calibrate Now please hit the Calibrate button to let the system calibrate by itself. During calibration, a multi-dot pattern will flash on the display for less than a second. Once calibration is completed, Ubi will display a message indicating that calibration succeeded. The screen is now interactive.
2. Using Ubi You can interact with the projection display as though it is a touch screen with your hand or with the Ubi pen. Interact with the projected display using the simple touch screen gestures you already know: tap, press and hold, swipe, and zoom. You can create a projected display up to 90 inches diagonally and interact with your hand or pen within Ubi s operational range (see below). Refer to Ubi Important Interaction Notes to learn more about how to interact with Ubi. Click on the Ubi icon in the task bar to switch between hand and pen mode.
3. Transfer License From version 2.2 onwards, you can transfer a license between machines. Click the arrow icon on the upper right corner and click Transfer License. Wait a few seconds until the confirmation of successful return. Then you can reuse the activation key on another machine to activate Ubi. 4. Report a Bug to Ubi Submit a ticket directly via: https://ubiinteractive.zendesk.com/anonymous_requests/new
5. Quit Ubi To quit Ubi disconnect the Kinect from your PC or right click on the Ubi icon in the system tray bar and select Quit.
