FOUNDATION STUDIES Application guide + Terms and Conditions Before you begin... After completing Step One - registered an email and password - you can log-out of the application process at any time and return at a later time to complete and submit your application. During the application process a green bar will appear across the top of the screen when the program is processing or adjusting the application. Please do not change anything at this time as any new information will not be saved. It is recommended that you provide as much information as possible in the application process. However, a red asterisk * at the beginning of a question, denotes that this is information is mandatory. You must supply this information before you can proceed to the next area of the application. Some questions feature this icon information icon next to the field. Hover over the icon for helpful information about the question. For more information and to apply for an enabling program, visit: CRICOS Provider No. 00109J

Register as a new applicant > Applicant details Applicant details You must enter your full name as it appears on formal documentation (e.g.. Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate or Passport) All applicants must enter their Country of Birth. If you were not born in Australia additional fields will appear. You must nominate an email address to complete this online application. You will use this email address and password to Login.

Complete your application > Create a login Create a login If you have just completed the Applicant Details form, you will be sent an email to the address you registered. Please use the email address and password that you have set up on the previous Applicant Details screen. Note: You can use this login to return to your application if you are unable to complete it in one sitting.

Complete your application > Home Home Click on Continue to complete the second part of your application.

Complete your application > Contact details Contact details The displayed page will be the Applicant Details form you have previously filled in. Click Save and Proceed to Next Page to continue or select Contact Details from the menu. If your Mailing Address is the same as your Home Address select No in answer to the question Mailing Address is different to Home Address and wait while the system fills in your Mailing Address. If your Mailing Address is different, complete the fields below. Please note that you must have a Home phone number. If you only have a mobile phone please put this number in the Home field.

Complete your application > Type of study Type of study The only program offered Off-Campus is Part-time Open Foundation. For Newstep, Yapug and other Open Foundation programs please select On-Campus. Note: Open Foundation by Distance commences in Semester 1 and offers limited subjects. If you are considering this option please ensure that you have read the information on the Distance program. Please select Enabling Program as your study level.

Complete your application > Program Selection Program selection Even though your program of Study shows your preferred campus you must still complete the Campus field. Callaghan is in the Newcastle area and Ourimbah is on the Central Coast. Click Add to List and wait until the top fields are greyed and your selected program is listed before continuing.

Complete your application > Language Language The third field appears if you answered yes to the Do you speak a language other than English at your permanent home residence? question. This additional field allows you to select the language from a drop down list.

Complete your application > Other information Other information If you have previously applied to the University or been enrolled as a Student you will have a Student Number. Even if you do not remember your student number please select yes to this question. Your student number does not have a c in front of it (the c is only added to access computer accounts). If you select Yes to this question, additional boxes will appear so you can indicate the type of impairment you have.

Complete your application > Supporting documents Supporting documents This is a summary of the supporting documents you may have uploaded throughout the application process, they will appear here. You can manage your uploads from this screen or continue with the application.

Complete your application > Checklist Checklist Please note the address listed on this page. Select either Not Applicable or To Be Provided to the four categories under the documentation section. Note: for Distance applicants there will only be two options.

Complete your application > Summary and submit Summary and submit (Part One) Ensure that you read the Terms and Conditions contained within this PDF document and tick the box to indicate that you have done this. To view a summary of your application, click View Printer Friendly Summary Page. The summary will appear in a new screen. You may like to keep a copy for your records by printing it off or saving as a PDF. If you are required to send in documentation to support your application, please attach a copy of this Application Summary. You are able to come back to this summary if you are not immediately able to print. Once you click Submit you are unable to change any of the details you have entered through this system. Please read over your summary and make sure all your details are accurate. A message will appear at the top of the screen while your application is being submitted.

Complete your application > Summary and submit Summary and submit (Part two) Once your application has been submitted you will be brought to this summary screen. You are now unable to change your application in this system. Please email enabling@newcastle.edu.au with your name and application number if you have any problems. If you need to come back to view a summary of your application you can do that at any time by logging in.

Complete your application > Application process complete Thank you for your application! Your application process is now complete. Thank you for applying for admission to one of our Enabling Programs at the University of Newcastle. You will receive an email shortly with further confirmation and instructions about taking the next step.

Documentation Please note that if you have previously applied to/studied at the University of Newcastle and have since changed your name you must send in a University of Newcastle Name Change Advice Form and appropriate documentation. Similarly if you are sending in Required Supporting Documentation and it is in a former name you must provide proof of your name change (e.g. Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll Notice). This documentation must be verified. All Programs: Citizenship Documentation If you were born in Australia you do not need to send in any documentation. If you were born in New Zealand you do not need to send in any documentation unless you have become an Australian Citizen. If you were born in any other country you need to provide proof that you are an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or New Zealand Citizen. Please post in a verified copy of your Citizenship Papers or Australian Passport or a verified copy of your visa which shows that you are permitted to remain in Australia permanently. Documents may be verified by a Justice of the Peace identified by Name and Registration Number. Alternatively we can verify your documents for you at the Foundation Studies office on-campus. Room MCLG49 in the McMullin Building at Callaghan or room HO1.61 in the Humanities Building at the Ourimbah campus. Newstep Only (Please post in the following items to allow us to process your application): The Summary of your online application A Newstep Basis of Admission Form (available on the Newstep website) For HSC students: A copy of your ATAR notification (or your Year 12 Certificate if you were not eligible for an ATAR) For non-hsc students: The documentation that is relevant to your application as listed on the Newstep Basis of Admission Form. Yapug Only (Please post in the following items to allow us to process your application): The Summary of your online application An Evidence of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander Status Form (available on the Yapug website)

Enrolment Terms and conditions Enabling Programs 1. I certify that all information and documentation supplied by me to the University is true, accurate and complete including all information supplied with my application for admission and/or credit. 2. I understand that I must comply with the rules, policies and by-laws of the University of Newcastle and that failure to do so may result in the cancellation of my enrolment. 3. I understand that I must ONLY enrol in courses that comply with the requirements of the program to which I have been admitted. 4. I understand that failure to pay fees and charges owed to the University and/or its partner organisations by the due date may result in my access to University services being restricted, the cancellation of my enrolment and/or action to recover any remaining debt. 5. I authorise the University to release information regarding my enrolment to Government agencies including the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DET), Centrelink and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in accordance with legal requirements. 6. I consent to the sharing of information between the University of Newcastle, other Universities and educational institutions as well as Universities Australia and tertiary admissions centres in relation to any matter including academic or other misconduct, exclusion from study or irregular activity that may be considered to be untrue or misleading in any respect. 7. I understand that the University of Newcastle is collecting information for the purpose of assessing my entitlement to Commonwealth assistance under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, and allocation of a Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) to me. a. I understand that the University of Newcastle will disclose information to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DET) for the above purposes and that DET will store the information securely in the Higher Education Information Management System (HEIMS), and that the information may be used in connection with the National Data Collection on University Applications and Offers and/or other uses as DET may lawfully require from time to time. b. I accept that DET may disclose the information to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). 8. I understand that the University of Newcastle will not otherwise disclose the information I have supplied without my consent unless required or authorised by law.
