Page 3 f 19 Applicability: This manual applies t the HygrMet MP prbe series with firmware versin 1.x, where 1.x can be 1.0, 1.1, etc. Changes t the last digit f the versin number reflect minr firmware changes that d nt affect the manner in which the instrument shuld be perated. 1 Overview The HygrMet MP prbe uses the digital signals frm a HygrClip HC2-S3 digital plug-in prbe t measure humidity and temperature at cnditins within the range f 0 t 100 %RH and -40 t 80 C. In additin the HygrMet MP can be cnfigured t calculate a psychrmetric value such as dew pint, frst pint, enthalpy, etc. The HygrMet MP perates frm a DC vltage surce and is designed fr use in weather statins where pwer is available n a cntinuus basis. The HygrClip HC2-S3 digital plug-in prbe features the well prven ROTRONIC Hygrmer TM IN1 capacitive humidity sensr and a precisin Pt100 RTD. Calibratin data, sensr characteristics, serial number, etc., are retained in a nn-vlatile memry within the prbe. The HC2-S3 is fully interchangeable and can be replaced in secnds withut lss f accuracy. As an ptin, the HygrMet MP prbe can be rdered with an additinal fast respnse temperature prbe (Pt100 RTD) that is directly accessible by means f 4-wires. The HygrMet MP is available in 3-wire circuit type. This versin prvides tw analg utput signals crrespnding t any tw f the fllwing: relative humidity, temperature r calculated value such as dew pint, enthalpy, mixing rati, etc. The 3-wire versin features a RS-485 interface fr the digital transmissin f all 3 signals: relative humidity, temperature and calculated parameter. Based n the ROTRONIC AirChip 3000 digital technlgy the cmbinatin f HygrMet MP and HC2-S3 2 prbe ffers the fllwing user functins: User cnfigurable settings Calculatin f psychrmetric parameters such as the dew r frst pint Humidity temperature calibratin and adjustment Simulatr mde Autmatic humidity sensr test and drift cmpensatin Sensr failure mde Data recrding The ability fr the user t easily update bth the HygrMet MP and HygrClip 2 prbe firmware means that bth devices can be kept up-t-date regarding any future functinality imprvement.

Page 5 f 19 3 General descriptin 3.1 Pwer supply 15 t 24 VDC With bth utput circuits clsed, the maximum current cnsumptin is 50 ma. Depending n the type f analg utput signal, the minimum supply vltage can be reduced as fllws: 0 1 V utputs: 5 VDC minimum 0 5 V utputs: 10 VDC minimum 3.2 Measured parameters The HygrClip HC2-S3 prbe used with the HygrMet MP measures relative humidity with a ROTRONIC Hygrmer IN1 capacitive sensr and temperature with a Pt100 RTD. 3.3 Calculated parameters Using the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware, the HygrMet MP can be cnfigured by the user t calculate ne f the fllwing parameters: Dew pint (Dp) abve and belw freezing Frst pint (Fp) belw freezing and dew pint abve freezing Wet bulb temperature (Tw) Enthalpy (H) Vapr cncentratin (Dv) Specific humidity (Q) Mixing rati by weight (R) Vapr cncentratin at saturatin (Dvs) Vapr partial pressure (E) Vapr saturatin pressure (Ew) Nte: sme f the abve parameters depend n the value f the barmetric pressure. Using the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware, a fixed barmetric pressure value can be specified. Fr instructins see the fllwing HW4 manual: E-M-HW4v2-F2-014

Page 6 f 19 3.4 Output signals HygrMet MP: 3-wire versin With the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware any f the tw analg utput signals can be made t crrespnd t ne f the fllwing: Relative humidity Temperature Calculated parameter Any utput can als be disabled. The scale f each analg utput can be set within the numerical limits f -999.99 and 9999.99. The D/A cnverters used t generate the analg utput signals feature a 16-bit reslutin. HygrMet MP 3-wire versin: this versin ffers a RS-485 digital interface in additin t the tw analg utput signals. Making use f this interface allws the simultaneus transmissin f relative humidity, temperature and calculated parameter. 3.5 Analg utput signal type The HygrMet MP 3-wire versin can be rdered with the fllwing utput signal types: a) Current utputs: 0 20 ma r 4 20 ma b) Vltage utputs: 0 1 V, 0 5 V r 0 10 V Nte: the analg signal type is cnfigured at the factry and cannt be changed by the user. 3.6 Service cnnectr The HygrMet MP has an internal service cnnectr (mini-usb type). This cnnectr prvides access t the HygrMet MP UART digital interface (Universal Asynchrnus Receiver Transmitter) and is used t cnnect the HygrMet MP with a service cable t a PC running the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware. See Maintenance fr the lcatin f the service cnnectr and fr the type f service cable t be used. The service cnnectr is used t cnfigure the HygrMet MP and t and update its firmware as necessary. 3.7 Prbe The HygrMet MP is nrmally used with the HC2-S3 prbe and is cmpatible with all available mdels f HygrClip 2 prbes. Fr detailed infrmatin n the HygrClip 2 prbes see dcument E-M-HC2 Prbes-V1. 4 User cnfigurable settings and functins The HygrMet MP ships cnfigured as specified n the custmer rder. The HygrMet MP can be installed and used just as any cnventinal humidity and temperature prbe and mst users will never need t use the HygrMet MP cnfigurable settings and functins. Use f the RS-485 digital interface may require cnfiguratin by the user f the RS-485 netwrk address. Making use f the HygrMet MP and HC2-S3 prbe cnfigurable settings and functins is entirely up t the user and the apprpriate settings depend n the user applicatin. We have prvided belw a shrt descriptin f the HygrMet MP and HC2-S3 and prbe functins and als indicated the factry default settings.

Page 7 f 19 4.1 Requirements fr cnfiguring the HygrMet MP Cnfiguratin f the HygrMet MP by the user and access t its functins requires the fllwing: PC with the ROTRONIC HW4 sftware (versin 2.3.0 r higher) installed. The test is autmatically carried ut at regular intervals f time. Can be cnfigured, enabled, r disabled. The humidity sensr status can be verified either with the HW4 sftware r with the instrument display (if available) and is shwn as Gd, SQtuned (crrected fr drift) r Bad (defective) Data recrding The data recrding functin differs frm a true data lgging functin in the sense that the AirChip 3000 des nt time stamp the data. The data recrding functin can be use t investigate events such as a sensr malfunctin as well as t retrieve data that wuld therwise be lst Start r stp data recrding - up t 2000 value pairs (%RH and temperature). Each system cmpnent has its wn micrprcessr, firmware and functins. Sme f these functins are unique t each system cmpnent. Other functins are fund in bth cmpnents. The HC2 prbe settings still apply when the prbe is used alne Make sure t use the same humidity symbl and the same temperature unit fr bth the HygrMet and prbe. The HygrMet settings are independent frm the HC2 prbe settings. The HC2 prbe settings have an effect nly when the HygrMet is enabled t mnitr alarms generated by the prbe When ut-f-limit values have been defined fr the same parameter fr bth the HygrMet and prbe, any alarm is triggered based n the narrwest set f limits (assuming that the HygrMet has been set t mnitr prbe alarms). Parameter and scale The HC2 prbe settings have n effect n the HygrMet 5 Mechanical installatin 5.1 General guidelines Install the HygrMet MP s that the lcal cnditins at the sensrs are typical f the envirnment t be measured: a) Use either a shield r a shelter t prtect the prbe and sensrs frm direct expsure t slar radiatin and precipitatin. Several shields are available frm ROTRONIC (see specificatins). b) In an pen field, install the prbe at least 6.6 feet (tw meters) abve grund. Increase this distance if the grund surface is cncrete r black tp (such as abve a rf). 6 Electrical installatin 6.1 General wiring guidelines Pwer supply wiring Heavy machinery and instrumentatin shuld nt share the same pwer supply wiring. If this cannt be avided, nise filters and surge prtectrs shuld be used. Mst UPS devices have thse features already integrated. General guidelines fr signal cables The fllwing guidelines are derived frm Eurpean Standard EN 50170 fr the transmissin f signals by cpper wires. When planning an installatin, the rules prvided by EN 50170 shuld be fllwed under cnsideratin f lcal circumstances t determine the psitin f machines and equipment. All ROTRONIC prducts are tested fr Electrmagnetic Cmpatibility accrding t EMC Directive 2004/106/EG and fllwing Eurpean standards:

Page 11 f 19 - EN 61000-6-1: 2001, EN 61000-6-2: 2005 - EN 61000-6-3: 2005, EN 61000-6-4: 2001 + A11 Whenever the level f electrmagnetic interference is expected t be high, bth the instruments and signal cables shuld be placed as far away as pssible frm the surce f interference. In general, signal cables shuld be installed in bundles r channels / cnduits, separate frm ther cables as indicated in the table belw: Bus signals such as RS485 Data signals fr PCs, printers etc. shielded analg inputs unshielded direct current (<= 60V) shielded prcess signals (<= 25 V) unshielded alternate current (<= 25V) caxial cables fr CRT mnitrs in cmmn bundles r channels / cnduits direct current frm 60 V t 400 V (unshielded) alternate current frm 25V t 400 V (unshielded) in separated bundles r channels / cnduits, withut minimum distance direct and alternate current > 400 V (unshielded) Telephne lines lines leading int EX-rated areas in separated bundles r channels / cnduits, withut minimum distance Lightning prtectin Cabling in areas with a risk f lightning requires a lightning prtectin. Fr cabling undergrund in between buildings, we recmmend the use f special fiber ptic cables. If this is nt pssible, use cpper cables that are suitable fr undergrund installatin. 6.2 Guidelines fr RS-485 wiring (HygrMet MP 3-wire) See dcument E-DV04-RS485.01: RS485 Netwrk Installatin and Start-up Guidelines 6.3 Wiring clr cde The HygrMet MP is supplied with 3m (9 ft) f PUR cable with tinned ends. Befre cnnecting the pwer, please make sure that there is n wiring errr. Imprper wiring may damage the HygrMet MP. T facilitate maintenance f the HygrMet MP, keep the prbe cable shrt. D nt replace the cable supplied with the prbe with a much lnger cable. If a lng length f cable is required, use an extensin cable with a maximum length f up t 330 feet (100 meters). When transmitting analg vltage signals ver a lng distance, yu shuld use separate wires fr pwer grund and fr each signal grund.

Page 12 f 19 6.4 Electrical diagram Electrical diagram fr vltage utputs The maximum permissible cable length can be determined under cnsideratin f the vltage drp caused by the current flwing t the devices cnnected t the unit. The vltage drp in the cable depends bth n cable resistance and n the equivalent resistance f the devices cnnected in parallel t the unit. The ttal resistance cnnected t each unit utput shuld be at least 1000 hms. Cable resistance shuld nt be mre than 1/1000 f the lad resistance. Lng term stability f the ROTRONIC Hygrmer humidity sensr is typically better than 1 %RH per year. Fr maximum accuracy, calibratin f the prbe shuld be verified every 6 t 12 mnths.
