windream Solo 1 windream Solo The present documentation serves as a guideline for installing windream Solo, which is the windream single user version for standalone operation. First, the installation description will give you a survey on the installation requirements and will then briefly explain the steps which must be executed before the actual installation process. Then, we will describe how to install windream Solo and how to start the program. Further documentations you can find detailed information on the installation of the windream Server, the windream Client and the application on the installation CD. The windream directory of the windream Solo installation CD contains an HTML-file named Readme.htm. This file allows users to easily access the windream documentations supplied with the software. Additionally, the documentations will also be installed in the windream program folder during the installation process, so that they can be launched via command Start>Programs>windream. The documentations are available as online help and as printable PDF-files. The online help can also be started via the Help command from the windream Control Center. The installation of windream Solo requires knowledge in the handling of the operating system used and of the Microsoft SQLServer Desktop Engine 2000 (MSDE 2000 or 2.0). Further information can be found in the respective documentations provided by Microsoft.

2 windream Solo System requirements The following system requirements must be fulfilled. See also chapter "Installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine", p. 5. Remarks The computer on which windream Solo shall be installed must fulfill the system requirements doccumented by windream GmbH. A description on how to install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter (if the installation should be necessary) can be found at the end of this documentation.

4 windream Solo Basics The installation of windream Solo requires a previous installation of Microsoft SQLServer 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000 or 2.0) including the components which are required for the database. If necessary, the Loopback Adapter (logical network adapter) must be installed. This will be required in case the target computer does not provide a network adapter (see chapter "Installation and configuration of the Loopback Adapter, p. 12). The installation steps must be executed in the following order: 1. Microsoft Loopback Adapter (if required) 2. Microsoft SQLServer 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000 or 2.0) 3. windream Solo. The Loopback Adapter is installed via the hardware configuration in the system properties of the operating system (see chapter "Installation and configuration of the Loopback Adapter, p. 12). The installation programs for MSDE and windream Solo including the required components can be found on the installation CD which you have received from windream GmbH or one of its partners.

windream Solo 5 Installation of Microsoft SQLServer 2000 Desktop Engine The Setup for installing Microsoft SQLServer 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000 or 2.0) can be found in the respective subdirectory of directory Sql2000 on the installation CD. The installation files must first be extracted into a directory of the target computer. Then you can execute the installation. Extracting files 1. On the installation CD, switch to the installation directory of the database (\Sql2000\ENG). 2. Execute file ENG_SQ2KdeskSP3.exe with a double click on the file. 3. Confirm the licence agreements. 4. Determine a directory into which the installation files shall be extracted. Executing the Setup 1. Under Run in the Start menu, enter the following entry: <Installation directory>\setup.exe followed by parameter SAPWD=password. The password can be chosen freely. It will be ignored during the installation of MSDE (see also file ENG_SQL2DeskSP3.txt in directory Sql2000\ENG on the installation CD.). Example for a Setup launch: C:\sql2sp3\MSDE\setup.exe SAPWD=xyz 2. Click OK to run the setup. If a message of Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine occurs which says that a secure password is required, no password has been entered before. In this case, execute the setup once again (step 4). 3. Reboot your computer. The installation of MSDE will be completed after reboot. Further information on the installation can be found in the respective documentations provided by Microsoft (for example in file sp3readme.htm in the installation directory of MSDE on the target computer). Starting the database services After the installation of the database, the icon of SQL Server Service Manager will be displayed in the taskbar. If the icon is not

6 windream Solo displayed, execute command Progras>Autostart>Service Manager from the Start menu. In order to install windream Solo correctly, it is required to have the database services started. Thus, execute the following steps: 1. Open the service manager by a double click on the icon. 2. Start SQL Server and the SQL Server Agent. A green arrow indicates whether the respective service has already been started or whether it must still be started. For both services, enable the option to automatically start the service when the operating system is launched. 3. If the services have been started, close the SQL Server Service Manager.

windream Solo 7 Installation of windream Solo The installation of windream Solo is started with a double click on file MSDEstp.bat in directory windream of the installation CD. After the setup routine has been started, the Setup Assistant will guide you through the installation steps. In order to execute a standard installation, simply apply the settings in the dialog boxes offered by the program (click Next). The present documentation will only describe those steps in detail which require entries or changes on the presettings. Detailed information concerning the installation of the windream Server and the windream Client can be found in the windream documentations (file Readme.htm in the windream directory of the CD). Requirements When installing the system under Windows 2000 and Windows NT, the user under whose ID windream will be installed must be equipped with admin rights. When installing under Windows XP, the user must be equipped with a password. Thus, a password must have been assigeed in the user administration of the operating system. Installation steps 1. On the installation CD, switch to the installation directory \windream. 2. Start the installation with a double click on file MSDEstp.bat. After having started the setup, follow the instructions in the dialog boxes. 3. Confiirm the licence agreements and read the information on the system requirements. 4. When the licence key is requested, you enter the path to the licence file supplied by clicking From file (default: WMCustom.ini). The key will be read automatically. 5. Enter the destination folder for the windream installation. 6. Enter the place of storage at which the files to be stored shall be placed in dialob box windream filestorage directory. Determine a directory here which is large enough to take up the documents which have been assigned to the Standard object type (recommended: at least 1 GByte). Per default, The work area of the Standard object type is configured with this windream file storage. This configuration can be changed with the admin functions of the windream Management Console

8 windream Solo 7. Determine the windream temporary directory. 8. Apply the database data displayed for the DB name and the DB ID in dialog box windream Database. As DB Server name, enter the name of your computer. As database mainuser, please enter the user name and the ID of the user account with which you execute the installation (user account with admin rights, for example local administrator). Note: This user-id (name and password) will be used for creating the windream mainuser account in the following dialog box. The respective fields in the dialog box of the user and group configuration will be preset with the entries made here. Usually, the password entered here cannot be checked, except the currently logged in user has the right to act as part of the operating system. Thus, ensure that the password entered is correct. 9. In dialog box windream user / group configuration, confirm the information displayed concerning the windream mainuser by clicking Next. Further information on the user and group account configuration can be found in chapter "Configuring user and group accounts", p. 10. 10. Select a free drive letter for the windream drive. 11. Select the windream program folder. 12. Confirm the preset information on the SQL Server Authentication (here, option Windows NT authentication must be set) by clicking Next. 13. Start the copying process. 14. Click the Finish button to complete the installation. View the logfile and the readme-file, if desired. A message will inform you on the configurations which must still be made in the windream Management Console after the installation has been completed. Further information on this can be found in chapter "Starting windream", p. 9.

windream Solo 9 Starting windream After the installation, the windream Control Center will be started automatically, and the windream icon will be displayed in the taskbar. You start and close the windream services via the Control Center, and you also start the windream configuration or the windream Management Console (WMC, the windream administration application) here. 1. Open the windream Control Center with a right mouse click on the windream icon in the taskbar. 2. Start the VFS service first (command VFS Service>Start) and then the indexing service (command Index service>start). For both services, enable the automatical start option to start the services directly after having booted the computer (icon indicates that the services have been started). You can work with windream now. In order to be able to store and administer documents in windream according to document types, you will have to create and define the required object types (which are folder and document types). You can use predefined object types as templates which have been delivered with the software. In order to use them, you import the document and folder types from the installation CD to windream. Then, you make the changes and adjust the object types according to your personal needs (see chapter "Importing object types", p. 9). The functions for administering object types and further administration functions can be accessed via the windream Management Console (WMC). The rights for achieving access to the administration functions have been assigned during the installation procedure, if you work with the user ID under which you have also made the installation (see chapter "Configuring user and group accounts, p. 10). The description of the respective WMC-functions is not part of this documentation. Detailed information can be found under the respective topics in the online help of windream and in the windream user manual. Importing object types Object types can only be imported by a user who is member of the windream administrators group. Thus, you must log in locally to the computer under a respective user ID.

10 windream Solo Preconfigured folder and document types can be found on the CD. The folder and document types are imported separately. This way, you can also import the folder types or document types separately from each other. During the import process, the indices and dropdown lists which have been defined for the object types will be imported into windream, too. Note: All document types have the same life-cycle preset. The editing periods as well as the archiving periods for documents are unlimited. Before using windream, these life-cycle rules should be adjusted respectively for each document type. If additional modifications should become necessary on imported object types, dropdown lists or indices, they should only be made initially before windream is used. Detailed information on how to make changes (for example editing dropdown lists, naming indices or creating and modifying object types) can be found in the respective chapters of the windream user and administrator manual or in the online help. How to import folder and document types 1. Switch to directory \windream\scripts of the installation CD. 2. Start the importing process for folder types by double clicking file foldertypes.bat. The import process will be started in an MS DOS window. 3. Confirm the message Import finished with OK. The import is complete now. 4. In order to import document types, repeat steps 1 to 3. Instead of foldertypes.bat you execute documenttypes.bat. Further information can be found in the readme.txt file in directory \windream\scripts of the installation CD. Configuring user and group accounts The Setup program will execute the configurations which are required for windream with the entries in the user and group configuration: The Die windream group named windream-users will be created in the user and group administration of the operating system. All users who shall have access to windream must be members of this group. The user account of the installing user will be assigned to the group.

windream Solo 11 The group will be applied to the windream user and group administration and receives administrator rights (windream administrators group). If you want to work with windream under another ID, you will have to make further configurations in the user administration of the operating system and in the windream user administration before.this must also be made, if the computer has been configured for a multi-user operation and if several users shall have access to windream. Settings in the user and group administration of the operating system A user account must be created in the user administration of the operating system for each user who shall work with windream. All users who shall work with windream must be assigned to the group of all windream users (default: windream-users) in the user and group administration of the operating system. Settings in the windream Management Console (WMC) In order to make the required configurations in the WMC, you must log on locally to the computer with the user ID under which you have made the installation. Then, you start the windream Management Console and execute the following steps with the respective Administration functions: Import the user and group accounts which shall have access to windream from the operating system into the windream user and group administration. Determine at least one windream administrator group (if required, create a new group and remove the administration access from the group oof all windream users). Adjust the user and group data in the windream user and group administration. The description of the respective functions and the procedure for executing the aspects listed above are not part of this documentation. You can find detailed descriptions in the brief introduction named "windream First steps for administrators" and in the windream manual as well as in the online help. The documentations can be launched via command Start>Programs>windream. The online help can also be started directly by clicking the Help command from the windream Control Center.

12 windream Solo Installation and configuration of the Loopback Adapter The Loopback Adapter will be required, if windream Solo shall be installed on a computer (Notebook or PC) which does not yet provide a fixed IP address. Also Laptops or PCs which only partly operate within a net will require the Loopback Adapter.
