WordPress Quick- Reference Manual Signing up for a WordPress account 1. Go to http://www.wordpress.com and click Get started here or sign up now. 2. Complete the signup form and click Create Blog. 3. WordPress will e-mail you an activation link. Open the e-mail and click Activate Blog. Adding a new blog 1. Login to http://www.wordpress.com with your Username and Password. 2. From the WordPress homepage, select the My Blogs tab. 3. Click Create Another Blog. 4. Complete the signup form and click Create Blog. Changing the theme of your blog 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Appearance > Themes. 2. Browse themes, or search themes using the search box to the right. 3. Select Preview to preview your blog with a theme, or Activate to apply a theme to your blog.

Adding a header to your blog 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Appearance > Header. 2. Select Browse to upload a header from your computer and click Upload. Note: You will be automatically directed to the Crop Header Image page if your header exceeds 960 x 240 pixels. Adjust the dimension of your header and select Crop and Publish when finished. 3. Select Save Changes when finished. Adding a page 5. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Pages > Add New. 6. Select the Visual tab to add content using rich-text format (recommended), or HTML to enter HTML attributes manually. 7. Select Save Draft if you want to continue writing the post later. 8. Select Print Preview see how the post will appear on the blog before publishing it. 9. Select Publish to add the post to your blog. Adding a post 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Posts > Add New. 2. Select the Visual tab to add content using rich-text format (recommended), or HTML to enter HTML attributes manually. 3. Select Save Draft if you want to continue writing the post later. 4. Select Print Preview see how the post will appear on the blog before publishing it. 5. Select Publish to add the post to your blog.

Adding media to your post or page 1. Select Add Media from the Add New Post (or Add New Page) screen. 2. To upload a media file from your computer, click Select Files from the From Computer tab, or drag n drop the file from its containing folder to the Add Media window. 3. To insert media from another website, select the From URL tab and enter the URL and a description of the media. 4. To select media from the media library, select the Media Library tab and search the name of the media file. Adding a hyperlink to your post or page 1. Highlight the text you would like to contain the hyperlink.

2. Select Insert/edit link or press Alt + Shift + A and enter the URL. 3. To link to an existing post, select Insert/edit link > Or link to existing content, and search for a post, or select from the list of recent items. 4. To unlink, highlight the hyperlinked text and select Unlink or press Alt + Shift + U. Adding custom form to your post or page 1. Select Add a custom form from the Add New Post (or Add New Page) screen. 2. Select Add a new field to add additional fields to the form. 3. Select Add this form to my post when finished.

Adding a poll to your post or page 1. Select Add Poll from the Add New Post (or Add New Page) screen. 2. Select Create New Poll. 3. Set the poll attributes and select Save Poll when finished. 4. Select Embed in Post to add the poll to your post. Editing a post or page 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Posts > All Posts (or Pages > All Pages). 2. Place your cursor over the title of the post or page you want to edit. 3. Select Quick Edit to modify the settings of your post or page (title, status, who can see your post, etc.) 4. Select Edit to modify the content of your post or page. 5. Select Save Draft if you want to continue editing the post or page later. 6. Select Print Preview see how the edited post or page will appear on the blog before publishing it. 7. Select Publish to add the edited post or page to your blog.

Disabling comments from posts or pages 1. From the Dashboard, select Settings > Discussion. 2. Uncheck the box that says Allow people to post comments on new articles. 3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and press Save Changes. 4. To disable comments from existing posts or pages, select Posts > All Posts (or Pages > All Pages) from the Dashboard. 5. Place your cursor over the title of the past of page you want to disable comments from, and select Quick Edit. 6. Uncheck the box that says Allow Comments. 7. Press Update. Deleting a post or page 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Posts > All Posts (or Pages > All Pages). 2. Place your cursor over the title of the post or page you want to delete. 3. Select Trash to delete the post or page. Organizing pages in a menu 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Appearance > Menus. 2. Enter a menu name in the Menu Name field and press Create Menu. 3. From the Theme Locations dropdown menu, select the menu you just created and press Save. 4. From the Pages box, select the pages you want to appear in the menu and press Add to Menu. The pages you selected will be added to the menu box to the right.

5. To create a page hierarchy, drag and drop pages as you would like them to appear hierarchically on your blog. 6. Press Save Menu. Removing pages from a menu 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Appearance > Menus. 2. From the Menu box, click on the Page button at the top right of the page you would like to remove. 3. Select Remove and press Save Menu.

Compiling a media library 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Media > Add New. 2. Click Select Files to upload a media file from your computer, or drag n drop the file from its containing folder to the Add Media window. 3. Click Save all changes to add the file(s) to your Media Library. 4. From the side pale on the Dashboard, select Media > Library to view your Media Library. Adding a widget to your blog 1. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Appearance > Widgets. 2. Drag a widget from the Available Widgets panel to the Sidebar to add it to your blog.

3. To remove a widget from your blog, drag the widget from the Sidebar to the Available Widgets panel. 4. To remove a widget from your blog but keep its settings, drag the widget from the Sidebar to the Inactive Widgets panel. Adding a hyperlinked image to the side panel of your blog 1. Upload your image to an image hosting website such as http://imgur.com and copy the HTML Image link. 2. From the side panel on the Dashboard, select Appearance > Widgets. 3. Drag the Text widget from the Available Widgets panel to the Sidebar. 4. Paste the HTML Image link into the Text widget text field. 5. Replace the URL in the first line of the HTML Image link with the address for the website you would like the image to lead to when clicked. 6. Press Save.
