6 7.7 QUADRILATERALS To name a quadrilateral, look for 3 things: -How many sets of parallel sides it has -Does it have 4 right angles -Does it have 4 congruent sides On a drawing, slash marks mean same length. Arrow heads mean parallel sides. Quadrilateral: no parallel or congruent sides Kite: no parallel sides; adjacent sides are congruent Trapezoid: ONE set of parallel sides. If non-parallel sides are congruent it is isosceles. Parallelogram: TWO sets of parallel sides. Opposite sides are congruent. Opposite angles are congruent. Rectangle: a parallelogram with 4 right angles. Rhombus: a parallelogram with 4 equal sides. Square: a rectangle with 4 equal sides. or a rhombus with 4 right angles.
