3 From CAD to MCNP Attila4MC can directly import CAD models in the following formats: Parasolid (.x_t) and ACIS (.sat) With the SpaceClaim * add-on, the following formats can also be imported: STEP, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia, and STL Attila4MC automatically generates a mesh for MCNP Automatic curvature based adaption to capture small features Surrounding void/air part not needed for MCNP Background region can be assigned an independent material * Varian has an OEM agreement to distribute SpaceClaim as an integrated component of Attila4MC 3

4 SpaceClaim Add-On Provides Attila4MC users with full solid model creation and geometry repair capabilities Developed with Computer Aided Engineering in mind Engineers who are not CAD experts Typical solid modeling systems are feature based: Parts constructed and modified by editing and changing features in a tree In SpaceClaim, you touch the model to make changes Analogous to virtual play-dough or building blocks Faces, edges, vertices, etc. are selected and modified primarily using 4 simple tools: Any model can be imported and modified as if it was natively built inside SpaceClaim Ideal for engineers who have to deal with messy CAD models from disparate sources. Automated tools for CAD model cleanup and preparation Clean up of gaps, overlaps, interferences, etc. Defeaturing and simplifying for analysis 4

5 Attila4MC Calculation Set-Up For most fixed source analyses, the MCNP calculation can be set up entirely through the Attila4MC GUI, including: Source specification Material definitions, including import of materials from legacy MCNP input decks Material-to-region assignments MCNP solver controls Tally specifications Attila4MC outputs the MCNP input files, which can be manually edited Heavily commented, easy to read Options to launch MCNP directly from GUI, and to pack a zip file for running on another machine 5

6 Automated Importance Generation Attila4MC includes an automatic importance setting for particle population balance with geometry splitting: Splitting of thick shields easily done with SpaceClaim User supplies initial guess for importances and enables automatic importance feature Attila4MC runs successive iterations of MCNP, setting importances to maintain particle population balance Importance optimization of multiple shields in a given calculation can be done Regions are grouped by importance onto an Importance Level. Users can define a fixed importance to each Level or the importance can be automatically calculated. 6
