FIND YOUR GEO SOLUTION DOWNUNDER

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN Meet our company founders. They started DUG in the back shed and turned it into a global service company. DownUnder GeoSolutions (DUG) was incorporated by its co-founders, Matthew Lamont and Troy Thompson, in Perth, Western Australia in December They started work building their first office - a shed in Matt s backyard. In the early days, Troy worked on quantitative interpretation workflows while Matt concentrated on developing a processing and imaging system. The focus was not only on functionality, but on integration within an interactive interpretation system. This culminated in a unique G&G toolkit, which due to client demand, was released commercially as an interpretation package in The DUG service business grew rapidly, with a focus on the international market from the outset. DUG now has patents for both seismic processing algorithms and computer hardware solutions and operates some of the largest and greenest super computers on earth. This includes the affectionately named Bruce in Perth, Bubba in Houston and Bodhi in KL. In 2014 DUG was awarded the Cecil Green Enterprise Award by the SEG in recognition of the risk and innovation that is part and parcel of the DUG story. From humble beginnings in the back shed DUG is now a major seismic service provider - operating out of 5 international offices with hundreds of employees and a large research and development team.

A TEAM NEAR YOU L H KL J DUG OFFICE LOCATIONS P DUG PROJECT LOCATIONS WE VE GOT THE POWER In an industry where time is critical and valuable DUG is able to provide our customers with one of the most powerful geoprocessing production systems on the planet. State of the art, highly parallel codes take full advantage of our high-tech supercomputing facilities and co-processor technology. DUG boasts some of the largest privately owned supercomputers in the world with high-tech data centres in Perth, Houston and Kuala Lumpur. We have developed (patent pending), our own dielectric fluid-cooling solution which has greatly reduced our energy usage and costs, increased the life and efficiency of our hardware, and given us some of the greenest compute centres on the planet. Our supercomputer technology allows us to turnaround large projects much faster for our clients, giving us a significant competitive advantage.

ALL THE SERVICES YOU NEED ILLUMINATION STUDIES High spec illumination studies Handling all types of acquisition design, both land and marine Both effective and total illumination can be modelled SEISMIC PROCESSING At DUG we offer expertise in a diverse range of geoscience disciplines. However, our strength is the integrated approach we offer our clients across the breadth of our services. Our unique, comprehensive workflows have proven time and time again to succeed in getting results for clients where others have failed. Illumination Studies Seismic Processing Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) Depth Imaging Petrophysics At DUG we focus on producing accurately processed and imaged seismic data that is ready for input into amplitude and inversion studies. We have developed key technologies in coherent and incoherent noise removal, velocity model building, data regularisation, residual moveout and migration to meet this goal. DUG Insight is our comprehensive processing toolkit which includes: DUG Broad - wave-equation-based deghosting and redatuming Source signature deconvolution using near-field hydrophone recordings SRME and IME - 3D true-azimuth, surface-related and interbed multiple elimination respectively DUG SWAMI - 3D shallow water attenuation of multiples by inversion Surface consistent processing (statics, amplitudes, deconvolution) DUG Reg - 2D/3D/4D/5D interpolation and regularisation (offset-azimuth and COV) Various noise removal techniques including multi-dimensional Cadzow filtering Wide-azimuth tools including COV processing and anisotropic, azimuthal moveout corrections Automatic residual moveout picking and gather flattening Comprehensive post-migration workflows Quantitative Interpretation Geostatistical Depth Conversion BEFORE DUG BROAD 300 ms AFTER DUG BROAD 300 ms DUG Software 1,600 ms 1,600 ms Stack section before and after application of DUG Broad. Both source and receiver deghosting has been applied. This data was acquired with a 15 m flat cable in a shallow water setting.

FULL WAVEFORM INVERSION DEPTH IMAGING Utilising the entire seismic wavefield to generate refined, high-resolution velocity models for imaging and characterisation Isotropic, VTI and TTI We utilise our own proprietary depth imaging toolkit designed and developed by our R&D group. The highlights include: KIRCHHOFF MIGRATION (ALL TRUE RELATIVE AMPLITUDE): PreSTM or PoSTM - Isotropic or anisotropic (VTI) INITIAL MODEL 500 m TVDSS PreSDM or PoSDM - Isotropic or anisotropic (VTI, TTI or tilted orthorhombic) BeamM - Isotropic or anisotropic (VTI, TTI or tilted orthorhombic) RTM: Output sparse or dense angle gathers or SOG gathers Isotropic and anisotropic (VTI, TTI) Vector offset output (VOO) for high SNR images to aid interpretation DUG irtm for rapid scenario testing 4,000 m TVDSS DUG QRTM to compensate for laterally and vertically varying Q REFLECTION TOMOGRAPHY (DUG HRTomo): FWI MODEL 500 m TVDSS Multi-azimuth Anisotropic updates Horizon-and grid-consistent Structure aware regularisation to prevent excessive smoothing across interfaces (including those with dip). Promotes structural continuity in the absence of other information while permitting abrupt changes when required Complete control over which part of the velocity model is updated RMO pics are weighted in 3D and have a confidence value 4,000 m TVDSS CO-RENDERED WITH SEISMIC 500 m TVDSS Reweighting of picks during optimisation to minimise effects of outliers Clusterised, allowing an unlimited model size Picks can be volume-based, horizon-based, or a combination of both Picks can be parabolic or non-parabolic (any shape) AFTER DUG RTM 4,000 m TVDSS Smooth starting velocity model prior to FWI (top), after FWI (middle) and after FWI but co-rendered with the seismic data in the background (bottom). Note that the stratigraphic and structural details in the FWI velocity model are consistent with the seismic data. Data courtesy of Shell NZ. Final anisotropic (TTI) RTM section in depth from 2000 to 8500 m. The full stack is overlain with the final interval velocity model. A comprehensive salt model building workflow was an integral part of this 3D project.

PETROPHYSICS QUANTITATIVE INTERPRETATION At DUG we offer specialised petrophysical services for the evaluation of lithology, reservoir properties and fluid content. Our interpretation techniques are designed to integrate all relevant information including: Wireline and non-wireline logs Lithology descriptions Core analysis Petrographical studies and well test information to ensure that an appropriate interpretational model is implemented All the wells are interpreted simultaneously and a consistent petrophysical model is generated The aim of quantitative interpretation (QI) is, through the use of amplitude analysis, to predict lithology and fluid content away from the well bore. This process should make use of all available data, assist in risk assessment, account for uncertainty and ultimately foster confidence in the predictions. Our service covers: Constrained seismic attributes Statistical rock physics Stochastic and deterministic forward modelling Various inversion approaches and algorithms Probabilistic lithology and fluid prediction The petrophysical work feeds directly into our QI workflow, bringing together multiple disciplines in an integrated approach Crossplot illustrating the effect of gas on the neutron and density logs in a clean sandstone reservoir. Absolute rock property crossplot comparing inverted data to rock physics expectations. The orange points capture an anomaly with low acoustic impedance and Vp/Vs. The blue points capture the down-dip part of the same anomaly. The purple points capture the bounding lithology. The modelled PDFs (the ellipses represent a two standard deviation contour of the PDF) are for a gas sand (red), brine sand (blue) and shale (grey). It is clear that there is good agreement between the inverted and modelled data. The anomaly is consistent with what we expect for a gas sand at this depth. GEOSTATISTICAL DEPTH CONVERSION FIRST DISCOVERY WELL EXISTING DRY WELL This flexible toolkit is designed to condition velocity data for the purpose of accurate depth conversion. The workflow is relevant for a single survey or for building regional, basin-wide models using numerous 2D and 3D surveys as input. The latter comprises a comprehensive workflow including the reconciliation of misties arising at both line intersections within individual 2D surveys and between overlapping surveys (both 2D and 3D). Geostatistical scaling is used to tie the available well control. This utilises well data and geophysically constrained statistics to derive a stable, geologically plausible background trend which accounts for the majority of error. The result is a consistent model that ties the available well control and provides reliable depth conversion away from wells. Gas probability data provided confidence to drill downdip of a 12 m brine sand resulting in the first discovery. Red indicates high gas probability.
