Analysis Adding Boundaries to a Surface - Hide Surface boundaries are defined from Closed polygons, Parcel or Surfaces. 9 Railway Design Terminology Cant and Cant Defficiency Cant is the change in elevation of rails in the horizontal curves in a railway (millimeters). (Cant is calculated very similarly as the superelevation in Roads). Normally outside track is lifted and the inside track stays fixed depending the speed of the train. Cant deficiency is a result when a train speed on a curve is greater than the speed for which is modeled for tolerated limits (or criteria) Theoretical / Equilibrium cant is 11.8 * {Design Speed}^2/Radius (Not applied in most case, trains with different speed use the same track sometimes) Railway Design Cant Design Applied Cant Table Specifies the amount by which the ballast is elevated or lowered in relation to the profile grade line. 3 Equilibrium Cant Maximum Allowable Cant Specifies the formula that calculates the Deficiency elevation of one rail relative to the other Specifies the maximum allowable to compensate for lateral forces due to difference between equilibrium horizontal curvature. 1 cant and applied cant. 2 Transition Length 4 Table Specifies the name of the cant transition length table used to calculate the transition stations. 10 Railway Design- Editing Cant Grip Editing Cant Data Use cant view grips to graphically edit cant data on an alignment. The cant view and the cant tabular editor are dynamic. Limitations (Rail Design) - There s only a single subassembly available and that does not have cant. No new railway subassembly in the catalog that uses cant information (You need to make from a subassembly Composer) - Export to landxml does not write cant/speed information - Import landxml does not create railway alignment, so cant and speed is missing as well - The railway alignment design might be used for reconnaissance study. - Can not be used out of the box as complete railway design solution 10

11 Visualization Drive Tool Visualization (Drive Tool) Use this tool to simulate driving through a 3D model by following an alignment, profile, feature line, 3D polyline, survey figure, or corridor feature line. Drive Command You can simulate driving through a 3D model using the Drive command. Specifying Drive Settings Specify Drive settings using controls available on the Drive tab in the ribbon. 11

13 NP-Civiltools NP-Civiltools has two main import and export parts. Novapoint til C3D C3D til Novapoint NP-Civiltools Export of surface (overflate). NP Civiltools remove the long export prossess and uses Landxml-geometri import direct. This process will create a temporary LandXML file for surface (overflaten) and the surface will be imported into NP Basis. 13
