Abstract In this paper we are presenting the automation technique which automatically assigns the values of material and property to the components in HyperMesh using Tcl script. This automation is applicable for large number of components, which in turn reduce the time and effort consumed by general procedure. Introduction Automation is a technique of making a process to operate automatically with less time and effort.tcl (Tool Command Language) is used by developers worldwide and has become a critical component in thousands of corporations. It has a simple and programmable syntax and can be either used as a standalone application or embedded in application programs. In a CAE process material and property updating for larger model is a laborious process. So, using Tcl effort and time is largely reduced. There are different types of macros such as basic, advanced and more advanced, in basic macros, simple macros which run a sequential HyperMesh command file. And in advanced macros, using the Tcl/Tk scripting language to add additional logic and user interaction such as entity selection. And in more advanced macros Altair Process Manager is used, which is programmable work flow manager that guides user through a standard work process. The scope of our project is to automate the material and properties definition by developing an advanced HyperMesh macro using Tcl function. If we have very large model for which the material and property has to be assigned which takes significant time and effort also, the same can reduced through this macro. Process Methodology The task flow is developed using Tcl functions and the fig.1 shows the flow chart, that typically a macro scripting and program to update the material and property collectors in HyperMesh. 2 Figure 1: Flow Chart The core functions are created by Tcl functions, with the basic Tcl syntax rules and Tcl commands like set, expr, puts. The HyperWorks Automation Toolkit (HWAT) is a collection of functions and widget that allows an application to quickly assemble HyperWorks automations with minimal effort and maximum portability, name space, string length and string range. After creating the Tcl script, the naming format for component should be followed as COMPNAME_MATNAME_Txx. For example, BLOWER_OTR_PE_T18. Then after running the Macro it creates a Shell Property with 1.8 as thickness and PE as material for BLOWER_OTR component. Results & Discussions: Before running the macro we have to check the naming format of components and list of materials are there in HM file as shown in (fig.2) Simulation Driven Innovation 2

5 Figure 6: Test component with Assigned Property with Material & Section values Benefits Summary The test Assembly has 503 components, the Time taking for Test Assembly by using HM macro (in built) in hours. Test Assembly Time taken for by using this Macro in 15seconds. So, considerable time is reduced by using the above macro. Future Plans To develop for other user profiles in HyperMesh and for other element types. By using Tk we can create user defined buttons for the automation of properties and materials definitions. Conclusions This paper depicts the usage of macro; with the help of this Macro we can save significant time and efforts for assigning the material and thickness for large models.
