1 abcdefghijklm = eé~äíü=aéé~êíãéåí= = aáêéåíçê~íé=çñ=mêáã~êó=`~êé=~åç=`çããìåáíó=`~êé= = mêáã~êó=`~êé=aáîáëáçå= = pí=^åçêéïdë=eçìëé= = bafk_rode= = ben=pad= Dear Colleague SCOTTISH DRUG TARIFF: PARTS 2 & 9; REIMBURSEMENT FOR DRESSINGS AND CHEMICAL REAGENTS Purpose 1 To inform NHS Boards and community pharmacy contractors of revised reimbursement price arrangements for certain items in Parts 2 and 9 of the Scottish Drug Tariff 2 The Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council has been consulted on these revised arrangements Background 3 Reimbursement prices for items in Parts 2 & 9 in the Drug Tariff are normally set taking into account the pricing protocol used by Department of Health (DH) when setting reimbursement prices for the same items dispensed on prescription in England 4 Following consultation with interested parties, DH recently announced revised reimbursement prices for the items listed in the Annex to this Circular 13 th December 2006 Addresses For action Chief Executive, NHS Boards For information Directors of Finance, NHS Boards Enquiries to: James H White Room 1 East Rear St Andrew s House EDINBURGH EH1 3DG Tel: Fax: JamesWhite@scotlandgsigovuk wwwscotlandgovuk Detail 5 With effect from dispensings made from 1 November, the listed reimbursement prices for the products detailed in the Annex and listed in Parts 2 and 9 of the Scottish Drug Tariff are reduced to the new prices shown therein 6 In respect of the reimbursement prices for bandages, ie the affected items in Part 2, the new prices represent reductions of 8% on those previously in force abcde abc a

2 7 In respect of the reimbursement prices for chemical reagent strips used to monitor blood glucose levels, ie the affected items in Part 9, represent reductions of 12% on those previously in force This new level has been set on the basis that manufacturers/suppliers will not materially reduce the package of support services they provide to support use of these products In the event that this proves not to be the case for particular items, manufacturers prices for those items would be further reduced by 3% to deliver an overall 15% price reduction DH has accordingly established a self declaration regime for the manufacturers/suppliers of these items so it can monitor any changes in respective support packages To minimise administrative costs for all parties, unless alternative evidence specific to Scotland becomes available, the Department intends to work on the basis that any adjustments to the English Drug Tariff as a consequence of DH s analysis of data available to it from supplier returns and other sources can be taken as being equally relevant to Scotland, and product reimbursement prices in the Scottish Drug Tariff will be adjusted accordingly Action 8 The Drug Tariff is hereby amended with effect from 1 November 2006 to give effect to the terms of this Circular 9 NHS Boards should copy this circular to all community pharmacy contractors on their pharmaceutical list, to dispensing doctor practices and to all Community Health Partnerships Yours sincerely DR JONATHAN PRYCE Head of Primary Care Division abcde abc a Page 2
