2003.July 5/22 1. Operation environment The software requires the minimum computer hardware / performance: Personal Computer CPU Pentium III 1GHz or more recommended Display card Memory High speed full color display card (AGP or PCI slot) To achieve the maximum performance, the selection of the display card is very important. The business graphic mode, which is provided by on-board graphic function, is not recommended, for it may result in improper frame rate and coloring. We strongly recommend display cards equipped with the high performance graphic chips such as GeForce (NVIDIA), Quadra (NVIDIA), or RADEON (ATI). 256 MByte or more OS Windows 2000 Windows XP (Home Edition / Professional Edition) IEEE1394 I/F OHCI (ilink, DV interface)

2003.July 6/22 2. Installation There are two steps to install this software 2-1 Driver installation It is necessary to install an OHCI specification driver for IEEE1394 I/F to enable uncompressed digital cameras. Please refer to FASE OHCI Driver Setup Manual for the installation. 2-2 Software Installation A special installer will be used to install the software. 1) Open the <Live Monitor> folder found in the attached CD-ROM. 2) Double click the "Setup.Exe" file to initiate the installer. Follow the installer s instructions to finish the installation. 3) When installation is completed, it is ready to operate.

2003.July 7/22 3. Program initiation Select Start/Program/Live Monitor/LVMonitor or double click the top. The following control panel will be displayed. icon on the desk When a camera is already connected, the live moving pictures are automatically displayed on the Live Window 3-1 Control panel window The control panel window can be closed. To close the control panel window, click the x on the top-right corner. In this case, software will reside on the task tray of Windows and continue to display the real time images from the camera. To display the control panel, right-click on the icon in the windows task tray and select Open Control Panel." 3-2 Automatic camera recognition HotPlug enables the automatic camera recognition and initiates the video data transaction when the IEEE1394 terminal (ilink terminal, DV terminal) is connected. Live Monitor also recognizes the best video transaction format automatically for any camera in conformity to IIDC1.30. Disconnection of the camera will stop the video transmission and close the video window. 3-3 Multi-camera compatibility Live monitor allows the multiple camera connection and video transmission simultaneously. For each camera, a Live Monitor window will open. Note: When multiple cameras are connected, it is necessary to pay attention to the IEEE1394 bandwidth limitation. The best way to handle multiple cameras is to use multiple IEEE1394 Host Adapter Cards to divide the topologies.

2003.July 8/22 4. Basic operations 4-1 Following displays the name and function of each button on the basic screen. Live Window Camera selection pull-down menu 1- Start video transmission 4- Record movie 5- Setup 2- Stop video transmission 3- Capture still pictures

2003.July 14/ Capturing still pictures While monitoring the live pictures, still pictures can be captured and saved to a file. Available file formats are either in JPEG or Windows Bitmap. In JPEG format, compression ratios can be selected. There are 3 capturing methods. A) Manual Captures a still picture for every push of the space bar. B) Auto Captures a still picture for every specified interval. C) External Captures a still picture for every external trigger pulse Click on Setup button on the Live Monitor Control Panel, and the following dialog box will appear. Select the Capture tab Specify the folder to save still pictures Specify Name to name the picture files. A) YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS Automatically names the picture files chronologically (YearMonthDay_HourMinitesSecond). B) File Name + No. Names the picture files in numerical order Specify Type to select the picture format. A) BMP Windows Bitmap format (24Bit DIB) B) JPEG JPEG format The compression ratio can be specified. 100 means uncompressed, and the lesser the percentage the lesser the picture quality.

2003.July 15/ Select the capturing method. A) Manual Captures a still picture for every push of the space bar. B) Auto Captures a still picture for every specified interval. (Specify the interval.) C) External Captures a still picture for every external trigger pulse Confirm the settings by clicking either Apply or OK button Clicking on Still picture button on the Live Monitor Control Panel will set to the stand-bye mode. Capture the still picture in the method selected in 4) Re-clicking on the Still picture button will exit the still picture capturing mode.

2003.July 16/ Recording real-time pictures on HDD Live Monitor allows the real-time recording directly onto the HDD. The saving format is unique to the Live Monitor, and the special software is prepared for the replay Click on Setup button on the Live Monitor Control Panel, and the following dialog box will appear. Select the Capture tab Specify Name to name the moving picture files. A) YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS Automatically names the picture files chronologically (YearMonthDay_HourMinitesSecond). B) File Name + No. Names the picture files in numerical order Sets up Raid (HDD configuration) Specify the folder to save the moving pictures. The maximum of 4 HDD split recording is possible. Note on the split recording: Because Live Monitor handles the uncompressed digital data, it requires the high speed and high capacity HDD(s). For example, to record 30fps in VGA resolution, it requires the minimum of 18Mbyte/s capability for the HDD. For higher resolution cameras, the requirement for HDD multiplies. In reality, it is very difficult task to prepare the fast enough PC for stream recording of uncompressed video. The split recording method splits the task and reduces the burden on each HDD by using multiple HDDs. Suppose there are two 1000rpm HDDs (D drive and E drive). The split recording will record the first frame in D drive, the second frame in E drive, the third frame in D drive, and so on. It will record alternatively and 66msec/frame becomes available (for 30fps, it requires the 33msec/frame). However, to record seamlessly without drop of a frame, the entire PC performance including PC Bus should be considered.

2003.July 17/ When Memory Cash Only button is checked, it will not record directly onto the HDD but will use the memory first to store the data as much as possible, and then the data will be saved in the HDD. Though the recording time will be limited to few seconds, seamless pictures will obtained Confirm the settings by clicking either Apply or OK button Clicking on Record button on the Live Monitor Control Panel will start recording Re-clicking on the Record button will exit the recording mode. 4-8 Playing recorded movies Special playback software YUVPlayer will be used to playback the recorded movies. Besides playing back the movies, YUVPlayer is equipped with the functions such as repeat play (start and end points can be specified with IN/OUT markers), AVI file conversion, sequential picture display in Bitmap format, and print out functions Select Start/Program/Live Monitor/YUVPlayer or double click the icon on the desk top.
