4 1 Introduction This application note provides information about how to save images to a Basler camera in order to load them into the Basler pylon Viewer so that they can be displayed there. If you want to use the storage function in your Basler camera, please contact Basler technical support to get the additional files required for the storage function (pylon.xml, Image.Storage.dll files). For basic information about how to install and set up a Basler camera, see the Installation and Setup Guide for Cameras Used with pylon for Windows manual. This manual can be downloaded from the Basler website. 2 Preparatory Steps 2.1 Installation These instructions can only be carried out with the Basler pylon Camera Software Suite, version 5. To download the latest version, please visit To enable your computer to use this option, it is necessary to execute the following steps: Preparatory steps to enable the computer to use the storage function: To execute the steps below, you have to have administration rights on your computer. 1. Contact Basler technical support to get the additional files required for the storage function (pylon.xml, Image.Storage.dll files). 2. Make sure that the GenICam used by pylon is version or higher. 3. Copy the pylon.xml file to the following directory: C:\Program Files\Basler\pylon 5\Runtime 4. Copy the ImageStorage.dll file from the x64 folder to the following directory: C:\Program Files\Basler\pylon 5\Runtime\x64 5. Copy the ImageStorage.dll file from the Win32 folder to the following directory: C:\Program Files\Basler\pylon 5\Runtime\Win32 How to Save Images on Basler Cameras 2

5 2.2 Connecting the Camera To connect the camera: 1. You have two possibilities to connect the camera: Connect the camera to your computer Connect the camera to a power supply. 2. Attach a lens to the camera to get sharp images. NOTICE Use original Basler accessories to ensure the proper function of the setup. Otherwise you might get poor image quality or corrupted images. 3. 6 3 Using the Storage Function 3.1 User Level and Feature Tree To get access to the storarge function: 1. To save, load or delete an image on the camera, switch the user level in pylon Viewer to Guru. You can see the Image Storage Control at the bottom of the camera s feature tree in pylon Viewer. This feature tree includes three functions Image Selector, Save Image, Load Image and Delete Image. NOTICE By setting the user level to Guru some additional features become visible. These additional features should only be used and modified by experts who know how the features work and what impact these features have. Otherwise you might badly mis-adjust the camera s settings. 7 3.2 Saving Images To save an image to the camera: You have the possibility to save two images on the camera. 1. Make sure that the camera is stopped and not taking images. 2. Select the desired storage space via the Image Selector drop-down menu (Image 1 or Image 2). There is a reserved memory space in the camera for two images. 3. To the right of the Save Image command: Click the Execute button. The Execute button is grayed out. 4. Click Single Shot (1 in Figure 2). An image is taken and saved to the selected memory space. 1 Depending on the resolution and connection of your camera the storage process might take a few seconds. 8 3.3 Loading Images If the Load Image and Delete Image buttons are disabled, there is no image stored in the selected memory space. To load an image from the camera: 1. Make sure that the camera is stopped and not taking images. 2. Select the desired storage space via the Image Selector drop-down menu (Image 1 or Image 2). There is a reserved memory space in the camera for two images. 3. To the right of the Load Image command: Click the Execute button. The Execute button is grayed out. 4. Click Single Shot (1 in Figure 2 on page Figure 2). The selected image is displayed in the image display area of pylon Viewer. The size of the loaded image is displayed below the image display area. Depending on the resolution and connection of your camera the storage process might take a few seconds. This is normal and there is no need to worry. 3.4 Deleting Images To delete an image in the camera: 1. Make sure that the camera is stopped and not taking images. 2. Select the storage space of the image you want to delete via the Image Selector drop-down menu (Image 1 or Image 2). 3. To the right of the Delete Image command: Click the Execute button. The selected image is deleted. The Execute button is grayed out. If the Load Image and Delete Image buttons are disabled, there is no image stored in the selected memory space.
