3 Purpose We wanted to monitor the operation states of the accelerator components. Previous Only 8 monitor cameras were installed for the radiation safety monitoring. It was not designed to monitor the many accelerator components inside a tunnel. Needs of replacement Monitoring of components without breaking the accelerator beam operation. ex: When cooling-water pressure falls, has it leaked? No failure in a radiation environment.

4 System overview We constituted this system as the web camera system. In this system, can display camera pictures on web browser and can control cameras from the web browser of PC and workstations. For the system development in the reasonable costs, cameras and camera servers are commercial product The http servers are Apache httpd and Tomcat JAVA servlet with RedHat Linux.

7 Installation Cameras 24 cameras are installed in the accelerator tunnel, and attached to the inner wall. RS-485 for camera control Analog NTSC video data on 75 ohm cable Network camera servers 12 camera servers are installed to the 19 racks out of the accelerator tunnel. Two cameras are connected to one camera server. Since transmission distance was so long, RS-232C was converted to RS- 485.

12 Effect of synchrotron radiation Some cameras broke down during 3 weeks operation. Electric noise? Radiation? We suspected on them. The failure analysis of the broken camera showed the lost data of EEPROM. Study radiation effects

13 Measurement of radiation dose Glass dosimeter data We have arranged glass dosimeters at intervals of 1.5m near the broken camera. The glass dosimeters were exposed to radiations during 68hours beam operation. We analyzed the dosimeter data to make a map of the background radiation. Results of radiation survey All cameras have lead sheet covers with a thickness of 0.5mm for the movable part, and 1mm thickness for the base part.

But, some cameras still broke down around the high-level radiation sources (crotch, absorber). We moved all the cameras away from the high-level radiation sources. The camera has been working for 6 months since then. Now, the commercial model camera can work stably in harsh environment even inside the accelerator tunnel.

15 Summary We installed the commercial camera based monitoring system with Web technology. The camera operation such as zoom, pan and tilt fulfills comfortable remote monitoring. The radiation robustness is a problem, but suitable camera positions can be found by surveying the radiation level. The monitoring system is useful in trouble finding and shooting, and has been working in harsh environment for six months without trouble.
