21 Installation Connecting peripheral equipment z Important! Unplug all items from the network before connecting them to each other. Monitors You can connect two monitors to the multiplexer directly. All the digital functions of the multiplexer (e.g. zoom, pan, tilt and freeze-frame) are available to the monitor connected to socket MONITOR OUT 1. The basic function of the monitor connected to socket MONITOR OUT 2 is to display unprocessed camera images. You can however configure output 2 in such a way that both monitors display the same images (see page 39). The on-screen menus used for configuration and programming purposes are always superimposed onto both monitors. Use a BNC-type cable to connect the socket MONITOR 1 and if applicable MONITOR 2 to the BNC inputs of the monitors. Video recorder You can connect either a single video recorder or two VCR units simultaneously to the multiplexer. This allows you to use one VCR unit to play back tapes while the other continues recording. The unit is fitted with a BNC-type video IN and video OUT socket for each video recorder. Connect either one or two video recorders to the VCR IN and VCR OUT sockets. Cameras You can connect up to 9 (ZS-DX109) or 16 (ZS-DX116) cameras to the multiplexer. Each camera input disposes of a looped output signal at the corresponding BNC-type OUT socket. The incoming video signals are automatically closed at 75 Ohm, if no other item of equipment is connected to the corresponding output socket. No additional terminal is required. ZS-DX Series 21

22 Installation Connect the VIDEO IN sockets, via the BNC cable, to the video outputs of the cameras. Wherever possible, use the sockets from No. 1 onwards, without missing any out. Connect the VIDEO OUT sockets to the input sockets of the corresponding peripheral devices (e.g. monitors, quad splitters, video crossbar units). Serial interface You can also operate the multiplexer functions remotely, using a PC-based terminal program. The computer must be connected via the 9-pin sub-d socket RS232C. You will find further details of computer remote control in the section entitled PC-based operation (page 41). When connecting the data cable, take special care to observe the corresponding instructions given in the manual supplied with your PC. 23 Installation Alarm connections The 25-pin ALARM IN/OUT sub-d socket is fitted for the purpose of connecting up to 9 (ZS-DX109) or 16 (ZS-DX116) external alarm signals. The socket is connected to a further three alarm outputs, each configured as an open-collector output with a capacity of up to 20 V and 20 ma. The alarm outputs are configured for use with: Sensor alarm (common to all inputs) Loss of video signal (common to all inputs) Alarm-reset function (see pages 15 and 37) Connection is carried out using the 25-pin sub-d plug supplied with the unit. z Important! The switching outputs for the connected devices operate at: Operating voltage: less than 20 V Power consumption: less than 20 ma. The inputs are specified as follows: 5 V, 5 ma, delay of approx. 100 ms. Depending on the layout of the system, it may help to connect the alarm source connection wires (e.g. door contacts, infrared sensors) to a terminal strip before proceeding. You can then carry out the connection to the multiplexer using a 25-pin data transfer cable. The table shows the wiring layout of the port: Contact Signal 1 Grounding 2 Alarm input No. 1 3 Alarm input No. 2 4 Alarm input No. 3 5 Grounding 6 Alarm input No. 4 7 Alarm input No. 5 8 Alarm input No. 6 9 Grounding 10 Alarm input No Alarm input No Alarm input No Grounding Contact Signal 14 Alarm input No. 10 (ZS-DX116 only) 15 Alarm input No. 11 (ZS-DX116 only) 16 Alarm input No. 12 (ZS-DX116 only) 17 Grounding 18 Alarm input No. 13 (ZS-DX116 only) 19 Alarm input No. 14 (ZS-DX116 only) 20 Alarm input No. 15 (ZS-DX116 only) 21 Alarm input No. 16 (ZS-DX116 only) 22 Grounding 23 Sensor alarm output 24 Signal-loss alarm output 25 Stop function alarm output ZS-DX Series 23

24 Installation Video recorder control The multiplexer is fitted with two control contacts for each connected video recorder: ALARM OUT for connection with the alarm input of the video recorder SW CTRL IN for connection with the control pulse output of the video recorder The purpose of the ALARM OUT function is to start the video recorder automatically (after corresponding configuration of the multiplexer). This output is activated via the alarm inputs of the ALARM IN/OUT socket. The purpose of the SW CTRL IN control pulse input is to provide a connection to the corresponding video recorder output socket (CLOCK OUT or CONTROL OUT). This clock pulse connection is used for synchronizing the video signal transfer function with the recording status of the video recorder. This guarantees for example that no images are lost if there is a brief recording function start-up delay. Always use the control pulse input whenever possible, as the video recorder timing signal ensures the smooth synchronization of the multiplexer and VCR. This avoids faults due to incorrect programming. The contacts are configured as non-threaded plug-in connectors. The table shows the wiring layout of the multiplexer connection (see illustration). Connect the GND (Grounding) wire to the corresponding video recorder terminal. Strip about 10 mm of insulation from the end of each connection wire. To release the terminal strip locking mechanism, insert a small screwdriver as far as possible into the slot beneath the corresponding terminal. Insert the bare end of the wire into the terminal and withdraw the screwdriver. Carry out a final check for loose wires. 25 Installation Remote operation The purpose of the REMOTE IN/OUT socket is to provide a connection for a separate operating panel for remote control of the multiplexer. All the button and switch functions on the front of the unit can be operated by remote control, and acknowledgement messages regarding current system status (e.g. camera selection or screen-splitting) can be transferred to a screen display or control panel. Pin assignment The contacts are configured as open-collector outputs with a capacity of up to 20 V, 20 ma. The inputs are specified as follows: 5 V, 5 ma, delay of approx. 100 ms. Connection is carried out using the 25-pin sub-d plug supplied with the unit. z Important! The switching outputs for the connected devices operate at: Operating voltage: less than 20 V Power consumption: less than 20 ma. 29 Programming Programming Check before starting the programming procedure that all peripheral devices (cameras, monitors, external alarm signal sources) are properly connected. The multiplexer and all ancillary equipment must be switched on. Access to the menus is blocked whenever an alarm function is active (indicated by flashing red alarm button). Basic operation Control buttons The various functions of the multiplexer are simple to program thanks to the on-screen menu-based system. Menu entries are made using the control buttons located on the front of the unit. If the menus on your particular machine differ from those described here, it is possible that a different version of the software has been installed. (Please refer to version information on the rear of the pack). Menu navigation is carried out using just the following buttons: MENU Cursor keys SELECT for activating the on-screen menu for moving up one level within the menu for canceling the menu for moving from one menu item to another for altering values Starting the programming procedure Once the unit is switched on, the camera image will be displayed on the monitors and programming can begin. Keep the MENU button pressed for about three seconds to display the main menu. MENU 1.NORMAL MENU 2.QUICK SETUP MENU Press the MENU button again to escape from the main menu. If no entries are made, the menus will be cancelled automatically after a short time. ZS-DX Series 29

30 Programming Highlighting and selection For the purposes of orientation, the currently selected option (e.g. menu items or adjustment values) flashes on the display. The next action always follows on from the highlighted option. Use the cursor buttons to change this selection. Press the SELECT button to access the active menu or select one of the highlighted parameter options. 3-2.DATE/TIME SETTING TUE.FEB :51:00 Press the MENU button again to return to the previous menu. Navigating around the menus The initial display shows the two main menu options. These menu items divide into further submenus, in which certain system functions are grouped. All menus are described in succession in this manual. The configuration parameters are organized into logically-based groups, which allows the multiplexer to be fully programmed as you move from menu to menu. Work systematically through the programming procedure, carrying out all the operations corresponding to each menu before moving on to the next. Saving your settings All menu configuration changes enter into effect either immediately or as soon as the menu disappears from the display. There is no need for a special configuration saving procedure. Quick-programming You can program the main system parameters by means of the Quick Setup menu, which allows you to start using the multiplexer in just a few minutes. The Quick-Setup menu forms part of the overall menu structure. All parameters in the Quick-Setup menu are also available in the normal menus. This manual likewise contains information on all setting possibilities available via this overall menu structure (NORMAL MENU). 30 ZS-DX Series
