IMPACT OF MOBILE PHONE: A STUDY IN TARAI REGION OF UTTARAKHAND ABSTRACT ARPITA SHARMA Assistant Professor, Department. of Agricultural Communication, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar Uttarakhand, India Globalization has many aspects. It contains important characteristic in the form of ideologically charged narratives that put before the public a particular agenda of topics for discussion, question to ask and claims to make. The whole world is accepting and adopting the ways towards the advancement of Information and Communication technology. Today s youth are playing a very important role in development of our Nation. Our youth are using different ICTs like Internet and Mobile Phone. KEYWORDS: Mobile Phone, ICTs, Impact & Young People Original Article Received: Nov 12, 2016; Accepted: Dec 17, 2017; Published: Dec 21, 2017; Paper Id.: JCNWMCDEC20162 INTRODUCTION Mobile Phone is a tool of Information and Communication. Youngsters are using mobile phone for different purposes. Today, Young people are using this technology for education purpose also. This technology has positive and negative both impact. Incidences of cheating, Cyber Bullying, disruption to lesson are some of the negative impact of mobile phone. Like any new technology, mobiles create problems as well as solutions. To this point, much research and data on mobile phones has lacked a focus on gender. Although the social and economic advantages surely outweigh the disadvantages, more gender-focused research and projects are necessary to determine the potential effect of mobiles for women in the developing world. Nowadays, we can often see people talking on the Mobile Phone while walking down the street, or heading towards somewhere by bus, by car, by train or by subway and at the same time, reporting his or her location to someone else who is on the other end of the phone. These images seem to be able to answer the following questions: how can we maintain the constantly changing communication and interpersonal linkages and how can we utilize modern technology to reconstruct new forms of social relationships in modern days. In brief, it is the science-technology that helps advance the transformation of interpersonal linkages.
2 12 Arpita Sharma Researchable Questions On the basis of the combination of the technical and societal evolutions, the science-technology could increase the spatial mobility and communication capacity. What consequence will emerge in everyone s life after the changes caused by usage of MP? Will interpersonal contacts be extended or be restrained? Will it cause a lot of changes in personal intimated relationships? Will it widen the range of interpersonal contacts in individual or not? Will the more and more personal communication framework empower someone or not? Taking the usage of MP as the focal point, this study intends to provide empirical evidences to clarify these research issues. Generally youth used the mobile phone. Some of the researchable questions which are relevant in the context of present study are:- What are the utilization patterns of mobile phone among the Adolescents? What are the positive and negative impacts of mobile phone? OBJECTIVES To study the socio personal characteristics of the Adolescents. [2] To assess the utilization pattern of mobile phone among the Adolescent. [3] To evaluate the positive and negative impact of mobile phone. Conceptual Framework Mobile is an Information technology. According to the Roger Adoption of any technology includes five major points Knowledge, Persuasion, Decision and Implementation and confirmation. Roger s theory basically showed that how people adopt particular technology. On the basis of adoption of technologies they are categorized as innovator, early adopter, early majority, late majority and late adopter. Those people who adopt technology in the early stage are known as early adaptors. Early knower are highly educated, have higher social status, upward social mobility, greater empathy, less dogmatism, greater ability to deal distraction and more contact with the societal people. Their decision may be optional, collective and authority based. Different types of connections are available in the market but every individual has different choices because of their knowledge. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Anonymous (2008) reported that Mobile phones help to create an informative, connected, culturally innovative, participative, and converging society. The contribution to economies is analyzed in terms of creation of a mobile welfare. According to some researches four areas with major direct influences are identified: Infrastructure development, Better business practices, Improvements in the public sector, Contributions to collective welfare of the individuals via social responsibility. According to Matsuda et al (2005) Mobile phone is a safer ICT tool for young women on the public transportation and out on street places. Prochard (2004) reported that Mobile Phone is a very important tool to understand the change in the environment. Ramey (2008) reported that from providing health information to making women-run businesses more lucrative, mobile phones have impacted women all over the world. However, the seemingly endless possibilities of mobile phones for women bring with them a unique set of challenges. Rohit (2008) reported that there are lot many tasks a mobile phone can perform, but do people really use the technology in right way. Many of us would probably disagree with this. There are so many adverse effect of mobile phone. For example mobile phone addiction plagues chinese youth says that China which has the world s largest population of mobile phone users is now facing a new type of mental disease called mobile phone deficiency Syndrome (MPDS). On the basis of above reviews it can be concluded that Mobile Phone is a Information Communication Tool having a positive as well as negative impact on the society. It s use totally dependent on the users. Some people use the
