3 The opportunity More than 1,5 billion of the world population is still without access to the most basic modern communication. Majority is living in rural areas in Africa, India, China and South America. Multible research and case studies by eg. The World Bank, show that access to cheap and reliable communication, is an enabler for creation of wealth and higher standards of living. Existing telco operators are facing steep challenges when adressing market in rural areas, due to lack of power supply, high-cost deployments, and lack of a clear business case. The vision of BlueTown is to connect people living in rural areas of the world, and become the global market leader

5 BlueTown solution core points BlueTowns core offering is an ultra low cost, end-to-end communication platform specialized for rural areas, delivering access to voip, internet and content End user communication is handled either on a standard Smart Phone/Tablet/laptop with a BlueTown app installed or via a BlueTown Smart Phone The mast system installed in villages is independent on external power operated 100% by solar Deployed systems will be hosted by BlueTown agents (micro operators) in the villages, that will sell talk time, offer charging of phones and securing the installations System cost is 1/10 of typical 3G or 4G installations, OPEX much lower

11 Education Access to the internet and mobile communication can increase the quality of learning, eg. by searching for updated teaching materials and fact finding. The children can increase their knowledge, and be motivated to learn more, by the use of online media. The teacher can use the internet outside the class room to improve his/her own knowledge, and prepare for inspiring training sessions. I can use the internet to learn new ways to be an effective teacher, and motivate the kids to learn more, in a school with limited resources. The teacher

12 Healthcare Access to the internet and mobile communication in the local clinic, can increase the quality of healthcare services. The doctor can bring in specialists via video to help in certain diagnosis of patients, and give them knowledge about how to deal with symptoms and their cure. The clinic can set up training events for the village population, to inform about disease development, and disease prevention. This is especially important when epidemics like Ebola develops. We use the internet a lot to communicate with specialists, get valuable information about diseases, and how we can prevent disease development to the citizens. The clinic manager

13 Agriculture and farming The main income in rural areas come from agriculture and farming. The internet can be used to increase efficiency and quality in the farmers work. Access to the internet and mobile communication can be used in order to cope with crop and animal diseases, use of fertilizers and choice of seeds. To market their products from the farm, they can use the internet to do local marketing, and to get information about pricing and distribution. As agriculture is the most important activity in the village, the quality of services from my office, is key to increase the socioeconomic status of the people living in the village. 14 BlueTown partners in Tanzania DANIDA BlueTown was approved in DANIDAs business program in Dec 2013, and is running a close cooperation with the team in the embassy in Dar Es Salaam Tigo Being the 3rd largest operator in Tanzania, having precense in 9 african and 6 south american countries, BlueTown is delighted to be a partner with Tigo in Tanzania. Tigo is providing free connectivity, tech support and integration competence during our phase 1 project with DANIDA Helios Helios owns 80% of the telco masts in Tanzania, and is currently strengthening the position further. Due to the BlueTown dependency on existing telco masts, Helios is an important partner in our deployment activities. Helios provides free mast space for BlueTown equipment during our pilot project The Aga Khan Hospital Being a strong player in telemedicine projects in Tanzania, Aga Khan hospital will become a key partner in the BlueTown phase 2 application for DANIDA. Ambition is to drive telemedicine to rural health clinics in a joint effort with the health ministry of Tanzania
