Main Purposes and Distinctive Feature of the Programme Main purposes The programme aims to develop in students: *To equip students with business skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global business environment. To provide education and training for a range of careers in business, including management, administration, human resources, marketing, entrepreneurship, accounting and finance. To provide insight and understanding into international business operations and the opportunities and challenges presented by a globalised market place. To equip students with knowledge and understanding of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural issues, diversity and values. To provide opportunities for students to enter or progress in employment in business, or progress to higher education qualifications such as an Honours degree in business or a related area. To provide opportunities for students to develop the skills, techniques and personal attributes essential for successful working lives. To provide opportunities for those students with a global outlook to aspire to international career pathways. To provide opportunities for students to achieve a nationally-recognised professional qualification. To offer students the chance of career progression in their chosen field. To allow flexibility of study and to meet local or specialist needs. What a HNC Student should know and be able to do on completion of the programme HNC students will have demonstrated knowledge and skills in the following: Knowledge and understanding in the context Subject-specific practical / professional skills of the subjects Finance and accounting concepts that are relevant to business Compile and understand accounting documents Use ICT techniques to produce business reports Fundamental marketing including consumer behaviour and economic concepts and theories Write and evaluate issues in business reports Project Planning and Management The development of entrepreneurial skills The impact of changing technology on marketing, finance and human resources Cognitive skills in the context of the subjects Identify and solve problem Analyse, interpret and extrapolate data Analyse and evaluate solutions to business and management problems Contextualise theory to business practice Apply professional judgements to marketing, human resources, legal, financial and operations issues involving possible solutions, costs and risks. Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy Learning and Teaching Methods Active learning is provided by lectures, seminars, videos and guided student centred activities. In particular, extensive use will be made of online study techniques. Practical skills will be acquired through student activities, seminars assignments and projects. Assessment Methods Assessment tasks are linked to the learning outcomes of each module and are normally completed by the end of each module. Types of assessments; Assignments, examinations (unseen or openbook), projects case study analyse, in class discussions and formal seminars, and interviews. 10. Other Information Date programme first offered Admissions Criteria Standard Requirements e.g. One GCE A2 level pass with 80 points or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education (AVCE) six unit award with 80 points Edexcel / BTEC National 6 unit Award Including: Mathematics and electrical principles to a standard equivalent to ECE1014 Non Standard Entry Other equivalent qualifications, such as Scottish Higher passes, the Irish Leaving Certificate International Baccalaureate. Pass in a Kite marked Access to Higher Education course. Applicants under 21 will normally also require five GCSE passes at grade C or above including Mathematics and English or equivalent. Mature applicants over 21 years, without the above qualifications, but with relevant life/work experience will be considered for
