For information about installing the Application Server software in a multinode deployment, see the Configuring your Multinode Topology for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace module. (Failover deployments are not supported in Cisco Unified MeetingPlace systems with Cisco WebEx scheduling.) How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software Before you install the Application Server software, you must perform the tasks in this table. Task Ensure that you meet all the system requirements for installing the Application Server software. Ensure that you have a server on which to install the Application Server software. The server on which you install the Application Server software will be reformatted during the installation and all existing data will be lost. We suggest using an unformatted server. The Application Server software is installed in a virtual machine on a Cisco UCS B-Series or C-Series Server, or on a Cisco MCS. (You may also install it on the exact equivalent server from a different manufacturer.) Ensure that the server on which you install the Application Server is connected to your company network. Adjust the BIOS date and time on your physical server to the current date and time before starting the installation of the Application Server. If you installing the Application Server on a virtual machine, then ensure that the BIOS date and time on the virtual machine is also correct. If you are installing the Release 8.5 Application Server on a Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or a Cisco MCS 7845-I3, then update the firmware. See this document or section System Requirements for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Release 8.5 document at /ps5669/products_device_support_tables_list.ht ml Cisco MCS installation documentation at pp/ps378/prod_installation_guides_list.html Installing the Application Server on a Virtual Machine, page 3 Installing the Application Server in a Multinode System, page 4 Updating the Firmware on a Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or 7845-I3, page 4 2

3 How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software Task If you are installing the Release 8.5 Application Server on a Cisco MCS 7845-H2 that has previously had the Web Server installed, then complete the following section. Ensure that you understand the duplex settings that we support. Understand how the NTP server works and how it applies to the Application Server. Determine the type of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system you plan to deploy: MeetingPlace/WebEx with WebEx Scheduling MeetingPlace/WebEx with MeetingPlace Scheduling This MeetingPlace/WebEx scheduling option is only available to existing customers who already have a deployment with MeetingPlace scheduling. Meeting Place Audio Only with MeetingPlace Scheduling If you are planning to deploy a multinode system, then install the Application Server on each node in your system. Have a valid DNS service configuration. You may need to add a Mail Exchanger (MX) record, if either of the following is true: You plan to use the Microsoft Outlook plug-in with a back-end integration. You want an sent, with the status of the operation, when the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system does a backup or an archive of its data. Gather all the values that you will need to complete the Application Server installation. See this document or section Troubleshooting the Application Server Installation on a Cisco MCS 7845-H2, page 18 Reviewing Duplex Setting Requirements, page 5 About Configuring a Network Time Protocol (NTP) Server, page 6 eetingplace_release_8.5_--_deployment_option s_for_cisco_unified_meetingplace_release_8.5 During the install, select MeetingPlace/WebEx with WebEx Scheduling. o_unified_meetingplace_release_8.5_--_planni ng_a_multinode_deployment This is mandatory for correct operation of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. You need to enter a valid IP address for a DNS service during the installation of the Release 8.5 Application Server. You can test your DNS service by entering on the command-line interface, ping <DNS_IP_Address>. You should get a response in under 200 milliseconds. Adding a Mail Exchanger Record to a DNS Zone, page 6 Gathering Installation Values, page 7 Installing the Application Server on a Virtual Machine If you are planning to install the Application Server on a virtual machine, then note the following: (Cisco UCS C220 M3 Server or UCS C240 M3 Server) The virtual machine must have 8 vcpu, 8 GB RAM, and a 300GB hard drive. 3

4 How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software (Cisco UCS C210 M2 Server or UCS B-Series Server) The virtual machine must have 8 vcpu, 8 GB RAM, and a 300GB hard drive. (Cisco UCS C200 M2 Server) The virtual machine must have 4 vcpu, 8 GB RAM, and a 300GB hard drive. If your virtual machine does not meet these requirements, then you will see an error message and the installation program terminates. Install one virtual machine, per blade, on a Cisco UCS B-Series or C-Series Server. When installing the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system, be sure your LAN connection supports at least 1 Gb/s (gigabits per second). The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system does not support snapshots on virtual machines. For detailed information on creating a virtual machine, see the Installing on a Virtual Machine module. Installing the Application Server in a Multinode System If you are planning to install a multinode system, then note the following: Familiarize yourself with a multinode deployment: g_a_multinode_deployment The instructions in this Installation Guide assume you are familiar with the terminology for a multinode deployment. Select MeetingPlace/WebEx with WebEx Scheduling deployment type. Install the Application Server on each server that comprises the multinode system. You may install the Application Server on each node, in any order. After installation, you will configure each node to be Meeting Director node, a backup Meeting Director node, a Conferencing node, or a Combined (Meeting Director and Conferencing) node. For more information, see the Configuring your Multinode Topology for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace module. Obtain licenses for your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. An unlicensed Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system can host a maximum of one concurrent audio/video meeting with unlimited participants. Install a license on the Primary and (if applicable) Secondary Meeting Director node(s). For virtual machines, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system creates a Licensing MAC address for each Meeting Director node. Updating the Firmware on a Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or 7845-I3 This procedure only applies when the Release 8.5 Application Server is installed on a Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or a Cisco MCS 7845-I3. Caution Complete this procedure and update the firmware before the installation of the Application Server. 4

5 How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Obtain the FWUCD I.iso (or later) image by using one of the following: Select your MCS, then Download Software. Products > Voice and Unified Communications > Communications Infrastructure > Voice Servers > Cisco 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers. Select your MCS, then Voice Applications OS Firmware. Burn this ISO image on a CD. Insert the CD into the disc drive. If necessary, change the boot order and boot the Cisco MCS 7835-I3 or 7845-I3 server from the CD. Choose option 1, Start Computer with CD-ROM Support. IBM UpdateXpressSystemPackInstaller starts. Accept the license. Select Upgrade. Select Next once the upgrade is completed. The firmware upgrade completes. Open the disc drive and replace the firmware CD with the Application Server installation DVD. Reboot the server, and install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace component. Reviewing Duplex Setting Requirements We recommend the following Ethernet port settings in a new installation on a physical machine: Application Server Ethernet Switch Port Result Auto-negotiate Auto-negotiate 1000 or 100/Full /Full 100/Full 100/Full If you do not set the devices to auto-negotiate, then you must manually set the duplex mode and the speed setting during the installation of the Application Server. We do not recommend the following: One device set to auto-negotiate and the other device set in a fixed configuration. This could potentially prevent the network interface from coming up because of negotiation failure. Setting the speed to 10 Mb Ethernet, because this artificially limits the bandwidth of the NIC to a smaller value than it s capacity. Using half-duplex Ethernet, because this serializes the traffic on the NIC instead of allowing traffic to pass through simultaneously. 5

6 How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software About Configuring a Network Time Protocol (NTP) Server Caution While configuring a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server is optional, we highly recommend configuring an NTP server, particularly for a multinode system. If you do not enable your system to use an NTP server, then your system will depend on the internal clock of the Application Server. This internal clock can drift over time and can cause serious problems with your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. If you will have a deployment with MeetingPlace scheduling and a Cisco WebEx Node for MCS, then you do not have to configure an NTP server. The Application Server software automatically uses the time from the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS after you install it. If you do configure an NTP server when installing the Application Server, the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS will override it. The Application Server software automatically uses the time from the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS only for deployments with MeetingPlace scheduling. It does not apply to any other deployment. You may still want to configure an NTP server for a backup in case the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS becomes unavailable. You can also use an NTP server to set the time initially on the Application Server before you install the Cisco WebEx Node for MCS. You may also choose to install an NTP Server later, by running the net command as the root or mpxadmin user. See Command Reference: Application Commands for the Application Server in the Using the Command-Line Interface (CLI) on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server module. Related Topics Configuring Time and Time Zones for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace module Troubleshooting Time and Time Zone Issues for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace module Adding a Mail Exchanger Record to a DNS Zone You need to add a Mail Exchanger (MX) record, with the name of a SMTP or Exchange server, to the DNS server if either of the following is true: You are planning to use the Microsoft Outlook plug-in with a back-end integration. Otherwise, the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace will not know the name of the mail server, and cannot send out Outlook calendar notifications for meetings. You want an sent, with the status of the operation, when the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system does a backup or an archive of its data. The following procedure applies to a Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, or Windows Server 2003 with SP2 system. 6

7 How to Prepare to Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have the appropriate permissions. If the computer is connected to a domain, members of the Domain Administrators group may also be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, you may user Run as to perform this procedure. Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Select Start > Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, then DNS. In the left navigation pane, expand Forward Lookup Zones. Right-click the appropriate zone and select New Mail Exchanger (MX). In the Host or domain field, enter the domain name for this record that will be used to deliver mail. In the Mail server field, enter the DNS hostname of the mail exchanger or mail server host that delivers mail for the specified domain name. Optionally, you can select Browse to view the DNS namespace for mail exchanger hosts in this domain, that already have DNS host (A) records defined. As needed, adjust the Mail server priority for this zone. Select OK to add the new record to the zone. Gathering Installation Values Gather and record the following information to prepare for your installation of the Application Server software. The values are listed here in the order in which you see them during the installation. Be sure that these are the correct values for the system. If you need to change any of these values after the initial installation, then use the net command, and reboot the Application Server. See Command Reference: Application Commands for the Application Server in the Using the Command-Line Interface (CLI) on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server module. If you want your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system to synchronize its clock with a remote time server, then confirm the Enable Network Time Protocol check box is checked. Otherwise, uncheck it. Enabling NTP (Network Time Protocol) allows your system to synchronize its clock with a remote time server. However, you do not need to enable NTP if you will be installing a deployment with MeetingPlace scheduling and a Cisco WebEx Node for MCS. If you do not enable your system to use an NTP server, then your system will depend on the internal clock of the Application Server. This internal clock can drift over time and can cause serious problems with your Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system. Step 17 Step 18 If you check Serve NTP requests from other machines, then this node replies with its time information. The Serve NTP requests from other machines check box applies to multinode systems. If you are using a NTP server, then enter the hostname (FQDN) or IP address of at least one NTP server and select Add. Select Next. Tip If you add an NTP server, you must select Add before you select Next. If you do not select Add and only select Next, the system will not add the NTP server and you will see errors. 13

Solution Use a different monitor or do not use the KVM switch for the installation. Problem Solution During the installation, a dialog box seems to disappear. Press Alt-Escape to switch back to the dialog box. Problem During the installation, the system hangs. Possible Cause This may be because you skipped the media check. Solution If you skipped the media check, abort the installation and start over. Do not skip the media check this time. We highly recommend that you always perform the media check. Problem The installation is taking more than two hours. Solution The Application Server installation should not take more than two hours. Abort the installation and start over. Do not skip the media check this time. We highly recommend that you always perform the media check. Problem The installation program displays a message stating that there were errors during the installation. Solution Reboot the system and install everything again. Problem The installation program still gives errors after installing the operating system and application the second time. Solution Use the infocap command to see the error messages in the log. See Application Server Command Reference in the Using the Command-Line Interface (CLI) on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server module. Problem Solution I entered the address of an NTP server during the installation but it is not synchronizing. Ensure that your Application Server is connected to the network. Problem SNMP is not running. Solution Restart SNMP agents by entering service mpx_snmp restart. This command attempts to restart all the SNMP agents, including the master agent. Problem I just finished installing the Application Server and the time is wrong. Solution Use the net command to set the NTP service. Sign in to the Application Server command-line interface as the root user (su -) and enter service ntpd restart. 17

18 About Reinstalling the Application Server Software Installing the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server Software Tip Synchronize your system time using a reliable, external NTP server to avoid this problem. Related Topics Troubleshooting Time and Time Zone Issues for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace module Troubleshooting the Application Server Installation on a Cisco MCS 7845-H2 Problem You are installing the Release 8.5 Application Server on a Cisco MCS 7845-H2 that has previously had the Web Server (or another Windows application) installed. The Application Server operating system fails to boot with the following error: Invalid BOOT.INI file Booting from C:\windows\ NTDETECT failed Solution Empty and delete the Cisco MCS disk partitions (including the boot sector) and logical volumes. You can use various tools, such as the fdsk command, or Fedora Desktop Edition ( Fedora Desktop Edition includes a disk utility that removes the partitions on the hard drives. Once the disk partitions are removed, reboot the MCS with the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Application Server software DVD. About Reinstalling the Application Server Software If you need to reinstall the Application Server operating system or application: Physical machine Back up your data onto a remote system and then install the Application Server again. Virtual machine Back up your data onto a remote system, remove the virtual machine image and reinstall the software, or change the boot order and boot from the Application Server DVD again.
