Select Tools > Control Center - Network Services in Cisco Unified Serviceability. You must complete this task on each server that you install in a Cisco Unified Presence cluster. Troubleshooting Tip You must wait until the Cisco Unified Presence Sync Agent is active before you can use the Cisco Unified Presence server. 5-4
Post-Installation Checklist Change Cisco Unified Presence Node Name to a Resolvable Value Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.6(4) and Earlier This topic only applies to those deployments that do not use DNS. During installation, if you select not to use DHCP, you must enter a hostname and IP address for the Cisco Unified Presence server. The hostname cannot be null, localhost, or an IP address. The Cisco Unified Presence node name gets its value from the hostname that you enter during installation and it must be resolvable. If you do not use DNS in your deployment, then the Cisco Unified Presence node name is not resolvable. To overcome this, you must change the Cisco Unified Presence node name to be a resolvable value after installation is complete. For information about how to change the Cisco Unified Presence node name, see Deployment Guide for Cisco Unified Presence. Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.6(5) and Later During installation, if you select not to use DHCP, you must enter a hostname and IP address for the Cisco Unified Presence server. The hostname cannot be null, localhost, or an IP address. The Cisco Unified Presence node name gets its value by concatenating the DNS domain to this hostname to form a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). This FQDN must be resolvable. If you do not use DNS in your deployment, then the Cisco Unified Presence node name will be set to the specified IP address. For information about how to change the Cisco Unified Presence node name, see Deployment Guide for Cisco Unified Presence. Change the Default Proxy Domain Name This topic only applies to those deployments that do not use DNS. If your Cisco Unified Presence deployment does not use DNS, the proxy domain name is set to DOMAIN.NOT.SET during installation. Cisco recommends that you change this value to the enterprise domain value after installation is complete. Before you change the domain name, you must stop the following services on all nodes in the cluster: Cisco UP Presence Engine select Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Control Center - Feature Services. Cisco UP Proxy select Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Control Center - Feature Services. Cisco UP XCP Router select Cisco Unified Serviceability > Tools > Control Center - Network Services. For information about how to change the default proxy domain name, see Deployment Guide for Cisco Unified Presence. After you change the default domain name, you can restart the Cisco UP Presence Engine, Cisco UP Proxy and Cisco UP XCP Router services. 5-5
Immediately following a fresh installation of Cisco Unified Presence, the system defaults to Evaluation mode for 90 days. This is a trial assessment period, during which: an organization can run a Cisco Unified Presence server without requiring a server license, and users in that organization, who are already configured on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, can access Cisco Unified Presence and be configured to use Cisco Jabber, without requiring the necessary user licenses (DLUs) See Licensing Modes, page 2-2 for more information about the trial evaluation period. To move Cisco Unified Presence to Production mode before or after the trial evaluation period ends, you must obtain the correct license files and upload them to Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unified Presence. Obtain Server and User License Files, page 5-6 Upload User Licenses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, page 5-7 Assign the Licensing Capabilities on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, page 5-7 Upload the Server Licence File on Cisco Unified Presence, page 5-8 View Licensing Information on Cisco Unified Presence, page 5-9 Obtain Server and User License Files When you place an order for Cisco software, Cisco provides a Product Authorization Key (PAK). The PAK provides the software activation key for the license files. Before You Begin If the server is a physical server, obtain the MAC address of the machine that hosts Cisco Unified Presence. If the server is a virtual server, select Show > Network in Cisco Unified OS Administration to obtain the License MAC value of the server. Obtain a valid address. Determine the number of device licenses that you need by using the license unit calculator in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration (System > Licensing > License Unit Calculator). Step 1 Enter the PAK that you received with your Cisco Unified Presence software in the License Registration web tool at Follow the system prompts and enter the following information: The MAC address or the License MAC value of the server for which you are requesting the licenses. Your valid address. The number of servers and devices for which you want licenses. The server type, physical server or VMware. The install type, fresh install or upgrade. 5-6
The server and user license files will be sent to the address you provided. Upload User Licenses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, page 5-7 Upload User Licenses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager The following procedure describes how to upload the following licenses: User licenses for Cisco Unified Presence capabilities Software and user licenses for Cisco Jabber Before You Begin Obtain the user license file. Restrictions The user license file must have a.lic suffix Step 1 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Select Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration > System > Licensing > License File Upload. Select Upload License File. Locate the license file on your local computer. Select Upload. Restart the Cisco Unified Communications Manager service. Troubleshooting Tip Run the License Unit Report to verify that the license files have uploaded correctly. Select Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration > System > Licensing > License Unit Report. Assign the Licensing Capabilities on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, page 5-7 Assign the Licensing Capabilities on Cisco Unified Communications Manager Use this procedure to assign Cisco Unified Presence and Cisco Jabber capabilities for a user. Each capability that you assign for a user will consume one Cisco Unified Communications Manager DLU. 5-7
You can also assign licenses by using the Bulk Administration Tool (BAT). In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration, select Bulk Administration > CUP > Update CUP/CUPC Users. Before You Begin Upload the licence file to Cisco Unified Communications Manager. Step 1 Select Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration > System > Licensing > Capabilities Assignment. Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Select Find. Perform one of the following actions: a. To assign capabilities to one user, select the user link to view the Capabilities Assignment Configuration window. b. To assign capabilities to more than one user, check the users as required and select Bulk Assignment. Check Enable CUP to enable Cisco Unified Presence capability. Check Enable CUPC to enable Cisco Jabber capability. Select Save. Upload the Server Licence File on Cisco Unified Presence, page 5-8 Upload the Server Licence File on Cisco Unified Presence Follow this procedure to upload the server license file or, for software upgrades, the software version license to Cisco Unified Presence. Only upload the Cisco Unified Presence server license file on the publisher node of a Cisco Unified Presence cluster. The license file contains the number of Cisco Unified Presence servers in a cluster that are licensed to the customer. You can only upload a license file issued for a physical server to a physical server. Similarly, you can only upload a VMware license file to a VMware server. Before You Begin Read the following topic: Cisco Unified Presence License Requirements, page 2-2. Upload the Cisco Unified Presence user licenses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, see Upload User Licenses on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, page 5-7. Assign Cisco Unified Presence capabilities to these users, see Assign the Licensing Capabilities on Cisco Unified Communications Manager, page
Restrictions License files must have a.lic suffix. Step 1 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Select Cisco Unified Presence Administration > System > Licensing > License File Upload. Select Upload License File. Locate the file on your local computer. Select Upload. Restart the Cisco UP Sync Agent service. Troubleshooting Tips Cisco Unified Presence only uploads the license file into the database if the version that the license file specifies is greater than or equal to the Cisco Unified Presence version that is running in the cluster. If the version check fails, Cisco Unified Presence generates an alarm, and you should get a new license file with the correct version. The system bases the version check only on major releases. To verify that the license file uploads correctly, confirm the license file is listed in the existing licenses menu on the License File Upload window. Select the license file in the existing license file menu, and select View File. View Licensing Information on Cisco Unified Presence You can view the current licensing information in Cisco Unified Presence Administration. The License Unit Report window shows how many days are left before Evaluation Mode expires. It also shows the number of servers that are licensed for the cluster and how many licenses are being used. To view the License Unit Report, select System > Licensing > License Unit Report in Cisco Unified Presence Administration. You can also view the number of licensed Cisco Unified Presence and Cisco Jabber users that have synchronized from the Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The status window provides the following information: Number of licensed Cisco Unified Presence and Cisco Jabber users synchronized from the Cisco Unified Communications Manager database User IDs and the primary extension, number of devices, and the number of contacts associated with users Which users are licensed to use Cisco Jabber To view this information, select Diagnostics > System Dashboard in Cisco Unified Presence Administration. 5-9
