1 Revision Timetable planner. ear / March-June Fail to prepare, prepare to fail

2 Using this revision planner Planning revision is probably the most important step to doing well in your examinations. Be clear about When the exams are and What each exam entails. Highlight all of your exams on the Exam timetable Preparation stage (Level easy because you just have to sit down and think) Step one Write in when each of your exams takes place. Step two Jot down what each exam asks you to do. Step three Work back from each exam and write in what you need to revise in the weeks leading up to the exam. The last two weeks before an exam should focus on exam questions. Step four The most important part of revision is finding out what you know and what you are finding difficult. Confidence grids are a good way of doing this, and each subject usually gives you one of these in the lessons. There is no benefit to keep revising what you already know, it is more important to focus on what you find difficult. Actual revision (Level difficult because you have to keep to the plans you made above) Step five When you are revising you should not really be simply reading your notes. It is important to actually do an activity. Good revision ideas are. Creating posters which you can stick around the house and then learn from them on a daily basis. Creating question and answer cards and then ask the family to test you. Teach anyone (even your teddy bear or the dog) what you have just learned from your revision session. Record your ideas and listen to them when you can. There are many more techniques in the after school, subject or C4L revision sessions. ALWAS test yourself at the end of a revision session either by doing a past paper or by getting another member of the family to test you. When you have created your revision materials keep coming back to them. Once you have done this, you can revise anywhere, on the beach, on the loo, cleaning your teeth, even before you go to sleep if you make a poster and put it on the wall next to your bed. Step six Make sure that you keep coming back to your planner and updating your level of confidence. Final preparation (Level fairly easy as long as you went through the revision stage above) Step Seven Two weeks before each exam make sure that you are going through exam questions The actual exams (Level nerve racking but fairly easy if you have followed the steps above)

4 GCSE Exam Dates EAR Summer BUSINESS STUDIES SUMMER EXAM Sept Dec: Controlled Assessment: 3 investigations based around marketing Students will be asked to perform primary and secondary research and use this to form suggestions for the chosen business Students will need to be able to write in paragraphs, analyse data by making charts, using percentages and reference their research throughout their work Makes up 25% of total GCSE Jan June: Business and People Exam 25% 1 hour exam worth 25% of GCSE taken in May/June Students will be asked to recall information and apply it to two businesses A*-A students will be able to compare advantages and disadvantages and make a decision based on their analysis. Resources available: Folders with Booklet for each topic, Exam past papers with model answers, mark schemes and examiners reports. VLE has all of the above, with presentations for every topic. DESIGN TECHNOLOG Controlled Assessment KS4 This is ongoing with one project that takes about a year to complete and is worth 60% of the qualification. Students start it in the spring term of ear and the project is completed by March in ear. Students are provided with guidance on how to complete each section. ENGLISH SUMMER EXAM Students will sit two papers each lasting one hour. The first paper is a Reading Non Fiction paper where students will be given two unseen media or non fiction texts and will then have to answer a series of questions based on the texts including one comparing the two. The second paper is a writing paper and students will need to write two pieces. Tasks usually include writing letters, speeches, reports and articles for newspapers or magazines. This exam is worth 40% of their final English Language/ English grade Eng Lit exam re-sit only CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT FEB NEXT ONE IN JUNE Students will complete a Descriptive writing controlled assessment or a First Person Narrative writing piece if they are in M4. They will prepare in class in advance and will be given titles to chose from before hand. The controlled assessment will last one hour and is worth 7.5% of their final English Language grade.

8 Examination Dates Summer ART Easter School Thursday 5 th April Summer Exam TBC The two coursework units (60%) end this Christmas for y and the exam starts Jan (40%). In the exam, students are given a choice of at least seven AQA set questions (or starting points) of which they choose one. Over the following several weeks they plan and prepare an answer (the final outcome). This Exam preparation is worth ¾ of the 40% and the remaining ¼ being the final outcome ( hrs of formal exam time given for this). The structure of the exam answer is identical to a coursework unit, so the students understand the process clearly. Support is given throughout the preparation period e.g. suggested artists to link to their developing work; checklist to ensure the right content within their answer; past graded examples available to all students BUSINESS STUDIES SUMMER EXAMS & ear Sept May: Business and the external environment -50% 1 ½ hour exam Pre released case study based around 7-8 extracts concerning one business Students demonstrate the same skills shown in year, but more in-depth answer questions based around analysis and evaluation. Resources: Case Study DESIGN TECHNOLOG SUMMER EXAMS: FOOD.5. GRAPHICS RES. MAT TEXTILES.06. Modular Examinations KS4 The students sit a written examination in the summer of ear. Food Technology- students have been provided with a revision booklet (not available electronically). These have been used for fortnightly homework revision tasks. It incorporates information about the exam, useful websites for revision, confidence grid and information about key topics. The revision booklet is designed to be used alongside revision from their course notes. Textiles students - are to be provided with a confidence grid. Graphics and Resistant Materials - revision resources to be produced.

9 Dance Easter School SUMMER EXAM THEOR PRACTICAL 8.5. (TBC) Drama. Easter School Thursday 5 th April SUMMER EXAM (PRACTICAL) 27.4.; 30.4.; 1.5. Unit 2 controlled tests (in the process at the moment) 6 hours practical and 6 hours written. Until end of March Unit 3 preparation for the exam March and April Unit 3 2 days off timetable for exam prep prior to external exam 27 th April and 30 th April EXAM for Unit 3 Tuesday 1 st May all day. Will start at 9. am and will end after school closing times, likely to be 5.00pm onwards. English Easter School Wednesday 4 th April SUMMER EXAMS: (Lit) This is an English Literature exam and will last two hours. Students will be answering four questions in total: two questions on Blood Brothers or About A Boy (depending on which text they have studied in class) and two questions on A Christmas Carol or An Inspector Calls (depending on which text they have studied in class). The exam is a closed book exam so students won t be able to take their texts into the exam with them. It is important therefore that they have thoroughly read the text. They will do some reading in class with their English teacher but they will need to do some additional reading at home. The exam is worth 40% of their final English Literature grade (Lang re-sit only) Students will receive their English Language Exam results on 8 th March. After this date students who haven t reached their target grade will be selected to re-sit Controlled Assessment and/ or the English Language Exams to help them improve their current grades. Controlled Assessment re-sit sessions will be run after school every Tuesday and Wednesday. An Easter Revision Class will be held for students re-sitting the English Language exam. 12 MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES SUMMER EXAM: FRENCH READING.5. GERMAN LISTENING.6. GERMAN READING Students need to produce two pieces of controlled assessment each for writing and speaking. We usually produce three pieces in each skill to ensure we can send off the best possible samples. Writing and speaking are both worth 30% of the total mark, which means each controlled assessment contributes % to the overall GCSE mark. Approximate timings of assessments are as follows: ear November/December Speaking Jan/February Writing March Speaking To prepare for controlled assessments students should learn all the vocabulary around the topic, revise tenses, bring all their reference materials to lessons, check their work against the success criteria and ensure they learn their draft by heart for writing (and for some speaking tasks). MUSIC SUMMER EXAMS; PRACTICAL.3. LISTENING.5. Controlled assessment Composition 1 Composition 2 from the end of September until Christmas. June-July The pupils are allowed ten hours of class time to complete the two composition. The compositions are 1/3 of the overall grade for the course.
