2 2 The Curriculum at St Paul s 207 The curriculum offered at St Paul s reflects that: St Paul s is a Catholic College. Allows our students to be successful and achieve outstanding results. The National Curriculum Requirements. Government reforms. Provides a broad and balanced experience and allows students to progress to the next Key Stage. The timetable consists of 30, 0 minute lessons per week for all Years 7 to. The Key Stage 3 Curriculum This spans two years, Years 7 and 8. All students in Years 7 and 8 study the following subjects: EBacc Subjects Periods per week Non- EBacc subjects Periods per week English or Science 3 4 Design and Technology: IT Physical Education Religious Studies The Key Stage 4 Curriculum This spans 3 years, Years 9, 0 and. All students study the core subjects of English Language, English Literature,, Religious Studies, Science, and Physical Education PLUS 3 option subjects. Currently studying the full EBacc is not compulsory but all students must choose at least optional EBacc subject as part of their GCSE programme. Students follow one of two pathways best suited to their individual needs. Mixture of A levels and BTECs, which may include resiting English Language or Students choose 3 courses, a mixture of A levels and BTECs Level 3 BTEC programme including resits in English Language or Students choose 3 BTECs from: BTEC Business ( A ) BTEC Business Foundation Diploma (2 A ) BTEC IT ( A ) BTEC Sport subsidiary diploma BTEC Health & Social Care Extended Certificate ( A ) BTEC Health & Social Care Foundation Diploma (2 A ) BTEC Science ( A ) Students choose 3 A level subjects. Students need a minimum of a grade B/6 at GCSE in their chosen A level subject. requires a grade 7 at GCSE. The students then take 3 A level subjects in Yr. 2 & 3 All subjects will be examined at the end of Yr. 3, they will not take AS exams Students choose the equivalent of 3 level 3 courses. This may be: 2 A level & Extended Certificates BTEC A level & 2 Extended Certificates BTEC A level & Foundation Diploma Students need a minimum of a grade B/6 at GCSE in their chosen A level subject. In Year only, Media Studies, Graphics and Resistant Materials are studying old specifications. With the new specifications students will be awarded a GCSE grade from 9 to, with 9 being the highest grade, in their GCSE examinations at the end of Year. Some subjects have a Non Examination component, NEA, which is completed in school and marked by their class teacher but externally moderated by the examination board.
