13 Avaya Avaya Communications Server (CS) 1000 System Administration and Management Virtual Instruction Participants in this course will refresh their basic administration and management skills on the CS 1000 series PBXs through guided practices. They will work directly with systems for real-life practices in security and provisioning. They will learn the required skills for adding analog, digital, and IP telephones, to ensure proper operation. In addition to common station moves, adds, and changes (MACs), they will discuss system administration, common tasks, and digital trunking. Participants will also receive a brief introduction on system installation and integration of the CallPilot voice mail system. This course is meant to supplement the Alliance Avaya CS 1000 System Administration and Management Phase 3 training course and is designed to get students prepared for the Phase 5 Hybrid Troubleshooting course. Avaya Communications Server (CS) 1000 System Administration and Management Troubleshooting Hands-On Training Participants in this course will expand their basic administration and management skills on the CS 1000 series PBXs through hands-on and interactive practices with a live system. Students will work directly with systems for real-life practices in security and provisioning. They will learn the required skills to add analog, digital, and IP telephones, and the testing required to ensure proper operation. In addition, they will use common station moves, adds, and changes (MACs), and administration. Participants will also practice system installation and integration of the CallPilot voice mail system on the CS1000 series PBX. This course is meant to supplement the Alliance Avaya CS 1000 System Administration and Management Phase 3 training course with live system training, and is highly recommended for both field technicians and help-desk staff who are tasked to provide front-line support for the CS 1000 system. 40 hours 1

14 Carrier-Based Networking 5ESS Basic Switch Management The Alcatel-Lucent 5ESS Switch, the Class 5 Telephone Electronic Switching System (ESS), supports a multitude of applications that can be configured to coexist with each other, allowing carrier operators to implement different applications cost-effectively on just one switch. Therefore it is important that carrier technicians have a thorough understanding of the 5ESS components, architecture, and basic switch management tasks needed to operate and maintain this carrier-class product. This course will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the components, management functions, administrative tools and functions, and common functions of the system. The course includes basic and advanced translations, ISDN, provisioning, tools, and troubleshooting. 40 hours Basic Switch Transport Management 4ESS, 5ESS, VoIP, and SIP The Alcatel-Lucent 4ESS and 5ESS class switches support a multitude of applications that can be configured to coexist, allowing carrier operators to implement different applications more cost-effectively. Therefore it is important that carrier technicians have a thorough understanding of the components, architecture, applications (ISDN, SDN, 800#, 911) and basic management tasks needed to operate and maintain these carrier-class products. Additionally, as carrier-class telecommunications evolves into Internet Protocol (IP), technicians need a thorough understanding of Ethernet services, network architecture, gateways, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). This course includes basic and advanced translations, ISDN, provisioning, tools, and troubleshooting. 32 hours Cisco ONS and the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX (Data Multiplexer) Series This introductory course offers the participant an overview of the ONS Cisco and Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX applications, products, installation, basic provisioning, turn up procedures, and routine maintenance. In addition, participants will cover testing procedures and troubleshooting methods. The course consists of both lecture and hands-on labs which provide the participant with a solid foundation of both systems. Lab equipment to be provided by the company. 40 hours Internet Protocol (IP) and Ethernet in Today's Carrier Networks Now that carrier-class telecommunications has evolved into Internet Protocol (IP), technicians need a thorough understanding of network architecture, the OSI Networking Model, switched Ethernet, metro Ethernet, MPLS, backhaul, gateways, Session Border Controllers, and Session Initiation Protocol, and how they impact next-generation networks. This course provides an understanding of IP/Ethernet-based technologies deployed in today's carrier networks, backhaul portions of the wireless carriers, and evolving next-generation networks. 16 hours Modern Carrier Network Collaboration Services NEW IP connections are everywhere throughout today's modern carrier networks, and the old fashioned services are quickly heading towards their sunset as advanced Ethernet technologies take over. Customers increasingly want more bandwidth and better service quality to meet their application needs in both wired and wireless environments. High-Performance Networks, Virtualization, Mobilization, and Security are the key components to success. In this course you will explore these key components and the technologies behind them and gain a thorough understanding of the next generation of IP-based collaboration services within the modern carrier network. 2

15 Carried-Based Networking Next-Generation (NG) Networks Consumers and businesses are driving the demand for new, converged services. This course will help participants understand the principles behind the next generation (NG) of communication networks. They will review the evolution of legacy telecommunications networks to converged multimedia network infrastructures that offer a broad range of services and applications. Participants will learn about IP multimedia subsystems and their associated protocols, as well as access and core network technologies. Tomorrow s 2020 Carrier Networks Alliance 2020 Technologies Training Every day we hear the words all-ip, all-wireless, and all-cloud. What do these terms really mean? In this overview class, participants will examine these technologies and others that make up the 2020 plan. In addition, they will review The Alliance s 2020 integrated training approach to building technology workplace skills. They will be encouraged to examine The Alliance Training Model with regard to Where Do I Start?, What Should I Do?, Where Do I Fit In?, and Is Technical Training for Me? 2 hours Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) Demand for technicians with the right credentials will continue to increase as more homes and businesses sign up for fiber-optic services, including high speed Internet, video-on-demand, wireless and Internet-based telephone service, videoconferencing, electronic commerce, and more. Becoming a CFOT gives a technician the opportunity for greater job growth, increased salaries, and enhanced job security. This course has two components: theory and hands-on. Emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of working with fiber-optic cables, including connectorization, fusion splicing, and testing. 40 hours Certified Premises Cabling Technician (CPCT) Certifications The FOA CPCT certification is for designers, installers, and operators of premises cabling networks. Premises cabling refers to building and campus cabling that is generally customer-owned and used for LANs, security systems, building management systems, distributed antenna systems, industrial systems, and electrical distribution management systems. This certification includes copper and fiber cabling and wireless systems. It is based on KSAs that require a knowledge of cabling and wireless technology and standards, along with demonstrated skills in the installation of copper and fiber cabling system to support networks. CPCT courses will generally be 50% hands-on labs developing the skills necessary for working with premises cabling systems. 32 hours 3

16 Certifications S S S EDUCATE REINVENT INNOVATE S S S Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Antenna (CFOS/A) NEW This course will teach students cabling at cell sites from the entry point to the antenna network at the top of the tower. Students will study cable specification sheets, typical equipment specification sheets, grounding, and bonding requirements. This information will be used to prepare a cell site cabling loss budget and the students will design and build a basic system cabling link. Bi-directional testing will be performed on the completed link. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Connectors (CFOS/C) The telecommunications professional who wants to remain a valuable commodity in the industry knows that continuous education and training is the ticket to success. This information-packed course delivers on that desire with a strong program. Gain critical knowledge and hands-on experience while learning about fiber-optic termination, installation methods, and connector testing procedures. Participants will graduate as certified fiber optic specialists with an emphasis on connector styles and procedures. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Design (CFOS/D) The FOA specialist CFOS/D certification covers how fiber-optic networks are designed within the context of complete communications systems or construction projects. Participants will focus on how to design a fiber-optic cable plant that will provide the transmission requirements of a desired communications system. This certification is intended for network users and operators, contractors, installers, architects and engineers, project managers, and all others who are involved in projects that include fiber optics. 2 classroom/prerequisite: None Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Data Center (CFOS/DC) NEW This course will teach students data center cabling with the various copper and fiber optic cables currently being used in various data center applications. Students will study cable specification sheets, typical equipment specification sheets, grounding, and bonding requirements. This information will be used to prepare a data center cabling loss budget and the students will design and build a basic data system cabling link. Bi-directional testing will be performed on the completed link. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Fiber Characterization (CFOS/FC) This specialist certification examines fiber optic testing for the purposes of characterizing long-distance fibers used in very high-speed WDM networks. It is intended for technicians involved in the design, installation, or testing of fiber networks. Training sessions cover the theory of single-mode fiber characteristics (spectral attenuation [SA], chromatic dispersion [CD] and polarization mode dispersion [PMD]); test equipment, test methods, and standards; inspecting and cleaning connectors correctly as a preparation for any testing; a review of insertion loss testing and optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR testing); a focus on advanced tests and methods (SA, CD, PMD); and an understanding of measurement errors in tests. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CFOS/T 4

17 Certifications Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Home (CFOS/H) Understanding fiber-optic technology is imperative to telecommunication occupations today. This course give participants the latest techniques for both multimode and single-mode networks. Emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of working with fiber-optic cables, including fiber-optic design, installation, testing, and maintenance. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Outside Plant (CFOS/O) This course develops the practical understanding and skills required to properly design, install, and maintain fiber-optic networks in telecommunications, broadband, and premise (LAN) applications. Participants study the latest fiber-optic technology and equipment in conjunction with appropriate terminology, operating procedures, and policies. Sessions incorporate skill sets on preparing, installing, splicing, and connecting optical cables. Sessions on testing and troubleshooting optical fiber networks enable participants to increase efficiency, reliability, and on-the-job safety, as well as to reduce cost and downtime. 32 hours classroom/prerequisite: None Fiber Optic Specialist/Optical LANs (CFOS/L) NEW This course focuses on Optical LANs, or OLANs, a new way to build LANs using an all-optical-fiber cable plant and electronics derived from fiber to the home (FTTH). This hands-on course is designed for technicians directly installing Optical LAN cabling plants. Participants will learn the types of OLAN architectures being implemented today, including technical, marketing, and financial justifications. Participants will also explore the design and installation requirements for cables, connectors, splices, and hardware used in the OLAN environment. Hands-on sessions will require the participants to build, test, troubleshoot, and repair an actual OLAN while in class. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Splicing (CFOS/S) Today s telecommunication workers must keep their job skills up to date. This new and comprehensive course does just that, guiding participants through everything for certification to conduct fiber-optic splicing procedures. Both instructive and hands-on training ensure that graduates are well-versed in fiber-splicing techniques, test methods, the required tools and functions, and the proper splicing sequence. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT Certified Fiber Optic Specialist/Testing (CFOS/T) Communications managers and equipment operators alike must continually refresh and increase their computer hardware and software skills in order to succeed in telecommunications. This fascinating course helps you stay on track and gain an additional certification. Participants will become certified fiber optic specialists through instructive materials and hands-on training, emphasizing the various testing methods required. 2 classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT 5

18 Certifications S S S EDUCATE REINVENT INNOVATE S S S Combination Fiber Certifications CFOS/C/T Two certification exams given with this course This course prepares participants to obtain both the fiber connector specialist (CFOS/C) and testing specialist (CFOS/T) certifications. After reviewing basic fiber information and safety procedures, participants will discuss, demonstrate, and perform the processes required to master fiber cable termination, testing, and troubleshooting. Approximately 80% of this course is hands-on training that provides participants with experience and a working knowledge of connector components; attenuation and reflectance specifications; tolerances; and the bonding, scribing, polishing, cleaning, and inspection of connector assemblies. In addition, participants will test their work for accuracy and troubleshoot faults using a variety of testing equipment. 40 hours classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT CFOS/S/T Two certification exams given with this course This course prepares participants to obtain both the fiber splicing specialist (CFOS/S) and testing specialist (CFOS/T) certifications. They will review basic fiber information and safety procedures, and then discuss, demonstrate, and perform the processes required for splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber-optic networks. Approximately 80% of this course is handson training that provides each participant with experience and a working knowledge of fusion splicing applications, techniques, and methods. In addition, participants will test their work for accuracy and troubleshoot faults using a variety of testing equipment. 40 hours classroom /Prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT CFOS/H/D Two certification exams given with this course This course is designed for both the fiber home specialist (CFOS/H) and design specialist (CFOS/D) certifications. It covers how fiber-optic networks are designed, with emphasis on the OSP network from the CO to the end user, both residential and commercial. Participants will study the latest fiber-optic cables for the networks in use today, examine termination enclosures, understand the latest industry practices, and review current test equipment and testing procedures. 40 hours classroom/prerequisite: CFOT or CPCT 6

19 Certifications CCNT - Certified in Convergent Network Technologies The CCNT is a certificate program for entry-level convergence professionals to prove their proficiency in integrated data, voice, and video technologies. The six course module open-book tests are taken independently and at the student s own pace, allowing ample time to prepare for one test at a time. 13 hours/prerequisite: None CTP - Convergence Technologies Professional The CTP certification validates that an individual has the core knowledge and skills required by manufacturers, service providers, channel partners, and end-users to implement convergence technology solutions. In many cases, CTP certification also satisfies the common competencies required to pursue other vendor-specific certifications.
