Purpose The National Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery is for people who work or wish to work in the Building industry. The qualification will empower the learner with skills and develop the learner to be efficient and ready to execute the required duties of non routine and complex nature and indicates potential for supervisory functions. The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this qualification are essential for social and economical transformation and will uplift the construction industry. The qualification takes cognisance that the construction industry changes rapidly and therefore intends to expose learners to the essential life skills which will complement Botswana Training Authority 12/04/2013 Page 2 of 8

3 construction skills. This in turn will produce holistic and competent artisans who will cope with the changing environment. 2. Outcome Construct and erect site made trusses Construct timber floors Construct timber stairs and ramps and apply floor coverings 3 Regulations for the qualification 3.1 Summaries of qualification requirements This qualification will be awarded to people credited with a minimum of 120 credits of which 40 are at level 3.These should have met the requirements of the compulsory, elective and or elective sections. 3.2 Detailed qualification requirements Compulsory All the unit standards listed below are required.
