2 NZQF NQ Ref 1280 Version 3 Page 2 of 5 National Certificate in Printing (Digital Processes for Print) (Level 3) Level 3 Credits 102 Purpose This qualification is designed for people who are employed in the digital printing sector of the printing industry. This sector covers both the digital retail environment, and the digital production environment. The qualification is made up of compulsory standards, plus three elective sections. The compulsory standards cover the skills and knowledge relating to colour requirements for the print industry as well as general knowledge of the printing and graphic pre-press industries. The elective sections provide the flexibility needed to cover the requirements of all digital printing situations. Elective 1 requires candidates to achieve one of the safety standards. Elective 2 requires candidates to achieve a minimum of 50 credits from the domains Digital Process for Print and/or Printing - Graphic Communication. Elective 3 requires a further 20 credits from the subfields Fibreboard Packaging and/or Printing, and/or the domains Competitive Manufacturing, Service Sector - Core Skills, Retail and Distribution - Core Skills and Sales Transactions. The unit standards will be chosen after discussion with the trainee, employer, and Communications & Media Industry Training organisation (CMITO). This qualification is designed to be a prerequisite to the National Certificate in Printing (Digital Processes for Print) (Level 4) [Ref: 1281]. Replacement Information This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Printing (Digital Printing) (Level 3) [Ref: 1037]. Special Notes Recognition of prior learning (RPL) will be carried out by the accredited providers, or by CMITO, who has systems in place for determining that people s competence meets the standards specified in the relevant unit standards. 3 NZQF NQ Ref 1280 Version 3 Page 3 of 5 Requirements for Award of Qualification This qualification will be awarded to people who have achieved the compulsory standards and have met the requirements of the elective sections. Award of NZQF National Qualifications Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website: Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. Version 2 was republished in September 2013 following a revision to ensure the achievability of the qualification. Changes to structure and content Unit standard was substituted for expiring unit standard (which included reference to technology no longer used in the industry). Credits increased from 97 to 102. Domain, Printing Graphic Communication, is expiring and was therefore removed from Elective 2. Previous version of the qualification Version 1 This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Printing (Digital Printing) (Level 3) [Ref: 1037]. Summary of differences between qualifications The title has been changed to reflect the new Digital Processes for Print domain. Unit standards 340 and form a new Elective 1. The new compulsory section is made up of unit standards 2281 and Elective 1 in [Ref: 1037] included unit standards from the Service Sector field, and Elective 2 in [Ref: 1037] included unit standards from the Generic Computing domain. The new qualification contains standards from the Printing subfield in Elective 2. Standards from the Fibreboard Packaging and Printing subfields, and Competitive Manufacturing, Service Sector Core Skills, Retail, Distribution and Sales, and Sales Transactions domains form Elective 3. The overall credit value has increased from 77 in [Ref: 1037] to 97, while the number of compulsory credits has decreased from 55 to 22, thus increasing the flexibility of the new qualification.

For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards see exemption table below. Credit for Exempt from 17921, Certification This certificate will display the logos of NZQA, and the organisation that has been granted consent to assess against standards that meet the requirements of the qualification (accredited). Classification This qualification is classified according to the classification system listed on the Directory of Assessment Standards (DAS) and the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) system as specified below.
