NOTES Due to the special requirements of the healthcare professions, all applicants have to pass a medical examination and be certified to have the following abilities to perform patient care activities in a safe and effective manner: Mental ability (interpersonal ability and behavioral stability) to provide safe care to populations, as well as safety to self, and demonstrate self-control and behavioural stability to function and adapt effectively and sensitively in a dynamic role. Physical ability to move around in clinical environment, walk/stand, bend, reach, lift, climb, push and pull, carry objects and perform complex sequences of hand eye coordination. Auditory ability to hear faint body sounds, auditory alarms and normal speaking level sounds (i.e. blood pressure sounds, monitors, call bells and person-toperson report). 23 NYP SCHOLARSHIP This Scholarship is open to all newly-enrolled ITE students in all courses, and who were previously from ITE s Higher Nitec or Nitec programme. WHO CAN APPLY: z Applicant must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident z New students with Higher NITEC GPA 3.8 or Nitec GPA 3.9 z Active participation in co-curricular activities z Students who have not secured any other scholarships WHAT YOU GET: z Annual tuition fees capped at Singapore citizen's fees (after tuition grant) z There is no bond obligation for scholarship recipients z One-time Education Expenses Allowance TENURE: This scholarship is tenable for up to 3 years of study at NYP provided the following conditions are fulfilled: z Consistent outstanding academic performance z Continued active participation in CCAs z Good conduct z Participation in a leadership development programme FOR MORE INFORMATION AND APPLICATION: 22
24 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE At NYP, we provide a number of avenues for those who are in need of financial assistance. 1) STUDY LOANS This scheme is opened to all full-time diploma students who are Singapore Citizens & Singapore Permanent Residents in any year or course of study in the Polytechnic (Not applicable to Polytechnic Foundation Programme). Eligible students may apply for Study Loan, to pay for part of their tuition fees and living expenses for any 2 consecutive semesters. 2) FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR NOTEBOOK Financial Assistance for Notebook offers full-time non-sponsored newly-enrolled NYP students from low income households the opportunity to own a brand new computer at an affordable price. For details, please visit website: 3) BURSARIES Students may apply for bursaries to defray their living expenses. These include the government-funded bursaries (CDC/CCC-Polytechnic Bursary and the MOE Bursary) and private bursaries. Applications are open at various times during the academic year. 25 FEES The following are annual tuition fees for newly enrolled students admitted in Academic Year 2018/2019: SINGAPOREAN (S$) SINGAPORE PR (S$) INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (S$) TUITION FEE 2, , , Besides the above tuition fees (subsidised), students would have to pay supplementary fees and GST on all fees. For students who have opted-out of MOE s Tuition Grant Subsidy Scheme, they will have to further pay for Tuition Grant and the GST thereon. 26 ADMISSION EXERCISES FOR ITE QUALIFICATIONS 1. JOINT POLYTECHNIC ADMISSIONS EXERCISE [JPAE] The Joint Admissions Exercise is opened to students with: z Nitec Qualifications - obtain at least a net GPA of 3.5 (after CCA bonus points addition, if any) and possess Singapore Cambridge GCE O-Level or N-Level qualifications z Higher Nitec Qualifications - obtain at least a net GPA of 2.0 (after CCA bonus points addition, if any) z Nitec in Nursing - obtain at least a net GPA of 3.0 (after CCA bonus points addition, if any) z Final semester graduating full-time ITE students APPLICATION PERIOD The JPAE is conducted jointly by the five polytechnics. Applications will be invited through a joint advertisement in the local media in February 2018 for ITE Certificate holders. Under the JPAE, applicants can apply for a maximum of eight courses. These applications can be submitted using the online JPAE portal at NOTIFICATION ON OUTCOME OF APPLICATION Applicants may retrieve posting results from the JPAE website in early April DIRECT ADMISSIONS EXERCISE (DAE) SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION Online application via Nanyang Polytechnic's website at nyp.edu.sg. Submission of duly completed application printout and supporting documents (photocopy of results, CCA records and NRIC) must reach the Polytechnic by the due date stipulated to: i@central Blk A, Level 1, Nanyang Polytechnic 180 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, Singapore NOTIFICATION ON OUTCOME OF APPLICATION Applicants may retrieve their application outcome from Nanyang Polytechnic s DAE website in end March or early April Only successful applicants will be notified by post. 25
27 ADMISSION EXERCISES FOR ITE QUALIFICATIONS (cont'd) 3. EARLY ADMISSIONS EXERCISE (for ITE Students) [EAE(I)] The Early Admissions Exercise [EAE(I)] for ITE students, will commence in June 2018 for ITE students seeking admission to Nanyang Polytechnic in AY2018. Final year ITE students in AY2017, including those graduating in Dec 2017, are eligible to apply. Students who demonstrated strong skills, aptitude and interest in areas relevant to the Diploma course they wish to pursue, will be able to secure a conditional place in the diploma course of their choice, prior to receiving their final Grade Point Average (GPA). APPLICATION PERIOD Applicants can apply for a maximum of three courses to be submitted through the EAE(I) portal in June Applicants are also required to provide a write-up for each of their 3 choices. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview and/or aptitude tests at NYP (exact dates to be confirmed by NYP). NOTIFICATION ON OUTCOME OF APPLICATION Successful applicants will be notified of their conditional offers in August They will be given up to one week to decide whether to accept or reject the conditional offer. Students who do not indicate their decision by the deadline given, will be deemed to have rejected the offer. They will however, be allowed to participate in the Joint Polytechnic Admissions Exercise (JPAE) or other admissions exercises. Upon release of their final GPA, students who have accepted their conditional offers and met the criteria will confirm their offers. Such students will not be eligible to participate in JPAE or other admissions exercises. Students who do not meet the criteria will have their conditional offers revoked. 26
