1 Direct-Entry-Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP) Factsheet for Schools Overview The Direct-Entry-Scheme to Polytechnic Programme (DPP) is one of two N(A) through-train pathways that were launched in It allows Secondary 4N(A) students to be admitted directly into a two-year Higher Nitec programme at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) without having to sit for the O-Level examinations or undergo a Nitec programme. DPP students who successfully complete their Higher Nitec courses at ITE and attain the required qualifying Grade Point Average (GPA) scores are guaranteed a place in a polytechnic diploma course mapped to their Higher Nitec course. Updated information on the mapping of Higher Nitec courses to polytechnic diploma courses and qualifying GPA scores for the 2018 DPP intake is in Annex A. Information is also available on About 1,200 DPP places are offered across all three ITE Colleges. Eligibility Secondary 4N(A) students who sat for their GCE N-Level examinations in 2017 as a school candidate and have met the following requirements are eligible to apply: a. Obtained an ELMAB3 aggregate of 19 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points); and b. Met the following course-specific entry requirements: For Applied Sciences, and Info-Communications Technology courses: GCE N-Level subjects Minimum Required Grades English Language Syllabus A 4 Mathematics (Syllabus A/ Additional) 4 Any three other subjects excluding CCA 5 For Business & Services courses: GCE N-Level subjects Minimum Required Grades English Language Syllabus A 3 Mathematics (Syllabus A/ Additional) 4 Any three other subjects excluding CCA 5 1
2 In addition, Secondary 4N(A) students who offered GCE O-Level examination subjects in 2017 (and those who offered GCE O-Level Mother Tongue in Secondary 3 in 2016) may combine their grades from these examinations with their N(A)-Level results to apply for the DPP. In doing so, they may use the following grade conversion table for computation of their ELMAB3 aggregates: GCE O-Level Grade Converted N(A) Grade A1-B3 1 B4-C6 2 D7-E8 3 The GCE O-Level grade of F9 and GCE N(A) grade of U will not be considered for computation of the ELMAB3 aggregate score. If a student has taken the same subject at both the GCE N- and GCE O-Level examinations, only the better of the two grades will be used in the computation of his/her ELMAB3 aggregate to determine DPP eligibility. Eligibility does not guarantee placement in a DPP course. More information on eligibility requirements for the DPP can be found at Students who had accepted an offer through the ITE Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) are eligible to apply for the DPP, should they meet the requirements outlined above. Application Upon release of the GCE N-Level results in December 2017, all DPP-eligible students may submit an application online via the ITE website ( Application will be open for four days. During this period, students will have time to consult their teachers and parents as well as to visit the ITE Colleges to obtain more information on courses that they may be interested in. Details on the DPP application dates will be made available on the ITE website following the release of the GCE N-Level results. Students who have sat for both GCE N- and GCE O-Level examination subjects can apply for the DPP prior to the release of their GCE O-Level results. They may submit an application in December using both their GCE N-Level results, and results from their school-based preliminary examinations for O-level subjects. Students who are successful in their DPP application will receive an offer for a DPP course. Upon the release of the O-Level examination results, ITE will verify if applicants who had used school-based preliminary examination results for admission have fulfilled the criteria for admission to the DPP. Students who are newly-eligible for the DPP after the release of the O-Level results in 2018 may also apply in January When submitting their applications online, students will be able to select up to twelve course choices. Students are also advised to provide updated contact details in their applications so that ITE and/or schools can contact them if necessary. 2
3 Posting & Appeals Upon receiving their DPP posting results, students will have to indicate in the online system whether they are accepting/rejecting/appealing their DPP offers. More information on the admission procedures can be found in the January 2018 ITE Admission Booklet. Appeals made after or outside of the DPP Admissions Exercise will not be entertained. Enrolment & Matriculation Students who accept their DPP offers will be required to complete their enrolment by 5 January 2018 as the 10-week DPP preparatory programme will commence on 8 January Student Movement in December/January All Sec 4N(A) students who do not have a confirmed place in the DPP or Nitec programme at ITE following the release of the GCE N-Level results in December 2017, but are eligible for progression to Sec 5, should report to their secondary schools on 2 January 2018 (Tues) to continue with Sec 5. This includes students who are eligible for, and intend to apply for the PFP, as eligibility does not guarantee placement into a PFP course. Following the release of PFP application results, all PFP-bound students will be required to attend classes up till the last Friday of January. Special Educational Needs Students with special educational needs are advised to consult the respective ITE College s Learning Accessibility Office to discuss the range of DPP courses available that are suitable for their abilities and needs before submitting their DPP application. More details on the Learning Accessibility Offices may be found on the ITE website ( 3
