1 Structure of Membership Grades Accreditation Criteria: Below is an explanation of the different levels of membership available to applicants 1. Ordinary Member Open to all studying, or working in functional areas related to the Risk Management field, e.g includes surveyors, loss control officers, safety officers, etc. Prospective Ordinary Members will be required to complete an application form for membership. 2. Associate Member Individuals can achieve Associate grade by either of 2 routes available. Route 1 provides for those individuals who are experienced but have not successfully completed a relevant professional or academic qualification, whereas Route 2 provides for those who are appropriately qualified - see below for accreditation criteria checklist. Both routes lead to the same Associate grade. This grade should be recognized worldwide as a sign of a Risk Management Professional. Both routes detailed below are available to individuals including all Ordinary Members. Prospective Associate Members will be required to complete an application form. Route 1 (experience) Awarded to those who can demonstrate 10 years or more experience in Risk Management (review table on Page 2 of 4) Route 2 (qualifications & experience) Achieved by applicants through: ROUTE 2A) Successful completion of an IRMSA recognized qualification (e.g. Risk Management qualification, NQF Level 6 or higher, registered on the NQF (National Qualifications Framework), Programme in Risk Management (UJ), ARM (US), AIRM (UK)) Min 3 years experience in Risk Management (review table on Page 2 of 4) OR ROUTE 2B) Are qualified by a relevant professional or academic qualification which is not necessarily focused on the Risk Management discipline (see below) Min. 5 years experience in Risk Management. (review table on Page 2 of 4) Approved qualifications for the purpose of accreditation of an Associate under Route 2(B) above Masters or Bachelor Degree or NQF Level 6/7 equivalent Qualification Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa Fellow of the Institute of Bankers South Africa Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Chartered Accountant Fellow of the Institute of Loss Adjusters Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants Certified Internal Auditor Certified Government Auditing Professional Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries Fellow of the Chartered institute of Management accountants Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers Fellow of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Fellow of the Institute of Risk Management (United Kingdom) Dec 2014 Page 1 of 5

2 Other qualifications will be considered for approval but, in terms of equivalency, it should be noted that 'Fellow' status of a professional body will be required as opposed to 'Associate'. 3. Fellow Member This grade is the most senior grade of membership should reflect working experience in a risk management discipline in addition to academic qualification. Prospective Fellow Members will be required to complete an application form. A checklist for Fellow applications is listed below as a guideline to enable individuals to determine if they are eligible to apply for Fellow status. Approval of the application will, however, remain at the discretion of the IRMSA Membership Subcommittee ratification by the Executive Committee. For more info go to The table below relates to both Associate Fellow Member Applications Direct Risk Management Experience Table Leading or assisting the establishment of RM (setting up of the structure) Assisting management in the establishment of a RM methodology Facilitating the Board Management: o Identification evaluation of risks, o Risk treatment monitoring reporting o Educating coaching management in identifying responding to risks Educating/ Lecturing or Researching on RM (framework methodology) Coordinating RM activities as a Risk Officer, Coordinator, Champion, etc. Maintaining developing the RM framework Developing the following: o RM Policy o RM Strategy for Board or Executive approval o Other please specify: Dec 2014 Page 2 of 5
