Chapter 1 CloudBridge Hardware Platform Topics: Citrix CloudBridge CB Summary of Hardware Specifications The Citrix CloudBridge CB hardware platform is a 1U platform. Citrix CloudBridge CB The Citrix CloudBridge CB platforms have a dual-core processor and 8GB of memory each. These platform have a bandwidth of 6 Mbps and10 Mbps, respectively.the following figure shows the front panel of a CloudBridge CB appliance. Figure 1-1. Citrix CloudBridge CB 504-2, front panel The front panel of the CloudBridge CB appliance has a power button and five LEDs. The power button is used to switch off the appliance. This action removes the main power however, you must replace the failed power supply unit. The LEDs provide critical information related to different parts of the appliance. Power Fail Indicates a power supply unit has failed. If the first power supply unit fails, the second power supply unit takes the load and keeps the appliance running, but the failed power supply unit should to be replaced. Information LED Indicates the following: Status Continuously on and red Blinking red (1Hz) Blinking red (0.25Hz) Solid blue Blinking blue (300 m/s) Description The appliance is overheated. (This might be a result of cable congestion.) Fan failure, check for an inoperative fan. Power failure, check for a nonoperational power supply. Local UID has been activated. Use this function to locate the server in a rack mount environment. Remote UID is on. Use this function to identify the server from a remote location. 2 P a g e
NIC1 and NIC2 Indicate network activity on the LAN1 and LAN2 ports. HDD Indicates the status of the hard disk drive. Power Indicates that the power supply units are receiving power and operating normally when it is blinking. The following figure shows the back panel of a CloudBridge CB appliance. Figure 1-2. 5 Chapter 2 Assigning IP Addresses Topics: IP Networks and Addresses Before proceeding with configuration of the appliance, decide upon the IP addresses that you will use. IP Networks and Addresses The presence of the XenServer hypervisor and separate virtual machines for management and acceleration require more IP addresses than for older appliances. Also, a separate management network is required. Plan for three IP addresses on the management network and two for each accelerated bridge, with the bridge addresses residing on the same subnets as the bridges themselves. The appliances use the management network for administrative access and, optionally, to communicate with local partner appliances in high-availability or group mode. Remote appliances are never contacted over the management network. Remote traffic uses the accelerated bridges. High availability and group mode each require an additional IP address. If these modes are used, the additional addresses should be assigned to the management network, that is, to the Primary port or to the Aux1 port. Management Network The management network can use the Primary port or the Aux1 port, or both. The default is to use the Primary port, which is recommended for most installations. This network requires three IP addresses: one for the management VM, one for the XenServer hypervisor, and one for the accelerator VM. The management network defaults are: Management subnet: /16 Management VM: XenServer: Accelerator: Accelerated Bridge Addresses In addition to these addresses on the management network, any accelerated bridge (apa and apb) that is actively used for acceleration requires a management IP, and may require a signaling IP. These ddresses are on the same subnet as the associated bridge. 5 P a g e
Chapter 3 Configuring the CloudBridge Appliance Topics: To configure the CloudBridge appliance The configuration process of the CloudBridge CB uses virtual machines for acceleration and management, running under a XenServer hypervisor. To Configure the CloudBridge Appliance 1. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Primary port, and connect it to a laptop or other device with a Chrome or Firefox browser. Subsequent instructions refer to this device as the laptop. 2. Set the IP address for the laptop s Ethernet port to , with a subnet mask of Leave the gateway and DNS server fields blank. 3. Log on to the management VM at using the default login and password of nsroot and nsroot. When the Welcome screen appears, click Get Started to display the Platform Configuration page. 4. The Network Configuration block refers to the management network. Do not change its default setting of the Primary port. The network parameters for the appliance s XenServer hypervisor and Management service can be changed here, if desired, as can the netmask, gateway, and DNS server. If you plan to continue managing the appliance on a stub network consisting only of itself and the laptop, leave all these values at their default settings. Otherwise, change them as appropriate for your management subnet. 5. In the CloudBridge Configuration block, define the IP address for the accelerator s Primary port. Use an address on the same subnet as the Network Configuration block. 6. The Admin Password block requires that you type a new password twice. This password will be used for access to the management service (login: nsroot) and the accelerator (login: admin). Caution: Do not forget this password. Resetting the appliance to factory defaults without the password is not supported in this release 7. In the Systems Settings block, you can select the check box to allow only secure (HTTPS) access to the appliance, and you can select your time zone from the dropdown list. (There is no provision for setting the time or specifying an NTP server.) 8. Press the Done button to move on to the main System menu. 9. The graphical user interface (GUI) has to major divisions: CloudBridge and System. The CloudBridge pages are roughly equivalent to the CloudBridge release 6.2 GUI. The System pages contain other features. Select CloudBridge from the pull-down menu if it is not already selected. 10. The first time you access the CloudBridge GUI, the Quick Installation page is the default. Fill in the fields on this page. For some installations, this is all the configuration that is required. 11. If you are not using an inline deployment, see Non-Inline Links. Note that the menu structure is different than in the 6.2 documentation, but the Links page is the same. 12. Click the Alerts link at the top of any page to see if your license has been installed. If there is an alert reporting No valid license available, acquire a local license from Citrix and install it by clicking the Add New License button on the Local Licenses tab and uploading the license. (See below for navigation.) 13. On the Network Adapters page, verify and, if necessary, assign IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateways to the accelerated bridges (apa and apb) that you will be using. Applying these changes will restart the appliance. 6 P a g e
14. Connect one of the accelerated bridges, such as apa, to your network. Inline installations place the appliance between your LAN and your WAN router, using both ports of the accelerated bridge. WCCP and virtual inline installations connect a single accelerated bridge port to your WAN router. 15. Virtual inline installations require that you configure your router to forward WAN traffic to the appliance. See Router Configuration. 16. WCCP installations require configuration on your router and on the appliance. See WCCP Mode. 17. Traffic will now be flowing through the appliance. The Dashboard page shows this traffic. 18. Verify, and, if necessary, set the date/time or NTP server on the Date/Time Settings page. The NTP server should be reachable by one of the interfaces you have defined. 19. Basic installation is complete. For optional features, see Additional Configuration. 7 P a g e
Chapter 4 Managing the Appliance Topics: Managing the Accelerator Managing the Management Service The graphical user interface (GUI) is divided into two parts: System and CloudBridge. Under normal operation, ignore the System pages. They are used rarely, most commonly to change the management port parameters or to update the Management virtual machine. Managing the Accelerator The CloudBridge pages are quite similar to the GUI of other CloudBridge appliances, and management can proceed as if the appliance were one of these appliances. Managing the Management Service You can update the parameters of the management port. To update the management port parameters On the System page, select Network Configuration and fill out the pop-up form. To update the management virtual machine 1. Updating the management virtual machine requires that you first upload a new management virtual machine image, then install it, and then reboot the management service. To upload a software image, navigate to System > Configuration > Management Service > Software Images, and then upload the image. 2. Once the image is uploaded, you can install it from the System menu. 3. Finally, reboot the management service from the System menu. 8 P a g e
